TBL 5×17: Pentathlon Challenge
Previously on The Biggest Loser Phoebe joined Wayne’s team, Phil saw his family, Caitlin and Daina got angryface at each other.
Tonight! Caitlin and Daina train some more… Well, Daina does. It seems Caitlin might be having a bit of a lie down.
Also, a challenge which will hand a priceless advantage at the weigh-in to someone. Ooh!
Michelle and Shannan rock up, Shannan’s hoping his team are sticking with the hard work and not sabotaging anyone, etc.
So today Shannan’s got them split up away from their colour partners and with some of the other people instead.
And he’s keeping them very busy today so there’s no time for politics or debating there’s only time for focusing and positive energy and so on.
About 3/4 through the training session Jarna tells us, Wayne announces to everyone that The Firm is no more.
Jarna doesn’t believe a word of it. Smart girl!
All The Firm people say that it’s true and that it’s now every man and woman for themself. Supposedly it’s all because of Shannan wanting them to work as a team.
Yeah, I’m with Jarna. I don’t believe a word of it.
Meanwhile Daina is hoping Caitlin will pull her weight this week since she has so much more weight to lose than Daina does.
Caitlin’s thinking during training that it would have been so much easier being in the group with the other 5 couples so she could hide away. Unspoken is the idea she’d be able to slack off then.
Michelle can tell that Caitlin’s in the negative headspace again but she’s trying to keep them motivated.
At one point during the treadmill session Caitlin bursts into tears and gives up to have a lie down on the floor. “There’s no crying in the gym! That’s the rules!”
Caitlin meanwhile has managed to get herself sitting up against a wall and is breathing heavily while saying she can’t breathe. So she’s fine, really.
Michelle eventually coaxes her back onto the treadmill and gets her going again. Caitlin looks a bit more motivated the second time around and Michelle says that’s the girl she wants to see in training in the future!
After an ad break the contestants head up to the oval and see two treadmills set up, a running track and some other bits and pieces. Very strange.
The challenge today will see them competing in two teams – Daina and Caitlin versus the rest. Caitlin’s not impressed!
Hayley reminds them all about the whole one couple versus five couples thing. Endless repetition is endlessly repetitive.
The team that wins today will receive a 2kg weight advantage at the weigh-in on Sunday.
Today’s challenge is made up of five different events that will test their knowledge, agility, speed, strength and stamina. Daina and Caitlin will get to choose who they face in each event… but they have to choose from a different couple each time.
First team to win 3 of the 5 events will win the challenge.
First event will be… speed. So it’ll be Daina versus someone. Obviously.
And she chooses to race Jarna. Jarna says she has dodgy hips at the moment.
The speed event is a flat sprint, 100 metres. First across the line wins.
Daina doesn’t want to be overconfident, she knows she’s faster but things could go wrong.
Jarna’s not done any running since the 10km run apparently. And she’s holding her hip from very early on while Daina runs ahead in a rather uncoordinated fashion.
Jarna ended up losing by a fair distance but she did run the entire distance, no walking, so she’s quite proud of herself anyway.
Next event will test their strength which means Caitlin will be competing and she’ll be facing off against… Shannon, surely? He’s an even bigger quitter. Maybe a gamble on out-strengthing Phoebe?
Find out after yet another ad break…
And Caitlin has chosen to face Phoebe!
Caitlin says sorry with a laugh. Phoebe looks less than impressed.
The Strength challenge is a tug-of-war. Each of them will stand on a platform while holding the rope and try to pull the other off the platform.
And it’s best of three.
Phoebe’s a bit nervous. Caitlin’s trying to put some thought into it. You can’t just tug as hard as you can or you end up falling off the platform.
Which Caitlin then puts into action by carefully letting go of the rope a bit and watching Phoebe tumble over backwards.
Phoebe figures her only chance is to wait for Caitlin to lose her balance and try to tug at the right moment… but ultimately Phoebe is pulling too hard when Caitlin lets go again.
Not really a test of strength so much as the immovability of people shaped and weighing the same as rocks…
Caitlin and Daina are now 2 games up needing only one more win to take out the challenge.
With 5 minutes left in the episode they’re either going to win at Agility or they’re holding the result over until tomorrow night…
Daina’s going to compete for Agility and will be taking on Phil.
Hmm, that could be a mistake. Would have picked someone like Shannon.
Phil says he’s pretty uncoordinated but will give it a crack!
The challenge is another of those “duck under/jump over” beam things. Jump over the low beam as it swings past then duck under the high beam as it comes around. Over and over as the pace increases, presumably.
As it starts to gain more speed things get more interesting. The other couples are trying to put Daina off by ooh’ing and ahh’ing and making out like she’s not clearing the bars by much. Caitlin joins in saying Phil’s faltering already, etc.
It’s not the most exciting of competitions ever and the ad break only makes it drag out more rather than increase the tension. Especially when we see Phil clip one of the bars just before it goes to ads.
Guess who’s going down after the break!
After the ad break Jarna says it’s actually who breaks the bars three times first, not just hitting it once.
Meanwhile Phil’s pants are falling down…
And inevitably he lands on one of the bars and then wears the other bar right across the face. It’s just polystyrene though and so both break gently on him.
Second round and Daina clips but doesn’t break one of the bars, though Phil thinks she has so he stumbles out of the ring handing an easy victory to Daina.
If Phil steps out again in the third round then it’s all over!
And right at the beginning Phil steps on one of the bars. Ooops!
Daina and Caitlin win the 2kg advantage at Sunday’s weigh-in!
Daina’s determined not to become complacent. Hopefully that will rub off on Caitlin…
Tomorrow night it’s Masterclass night, again! Cool!
Looks like they’re making some kind of kebab thing in the chef class. May even be edible!
