TBL 5×14: The Firm Elimination

Previously on The Biggest Loser Phil and David, Elise and Teneale fell below the Yellow Line and will face elimination…

… tonight!
But will the alliance hold to its rules. Can the boys trust the girls?

NEVER TRUST GIRLS. They’s sneaky and evil and smell of strange flowery things.

Phil has a tattoo of a lady under one of his arms. Hard to tell what the other is. Maybe a guitar? Not sure. Quite unexpected!
Nobody was expecting Phil and David to be below the Line.

Phil has a lot of nice things to say about the “Ginger Ninja” Phoebe’s results this week.

Daina says it’s the “Worst Situation Ever!” They’ve got the Pink Ladies who’re like their sisters and their adopted Dads as well. They’ve both been really supportive so it’s going to be a really hard decision.
But to us Daina’s talking like it’s a decision. The rules are quite clear, you spelled them out to Phoebe the other day…

Wayne calls a meeting of the other members of The Firm.
He says to them all that they made a pact. The rules are the rules. Pink had the lowest percentage and so they should be the ones to go home.
Daina says it’s hard because they’ve got a tight bond with the Pink Girls, they’re like sisters and they’d said they never wanted to write the name down. And Rick says none of them really want to write down the name of another Firm member but they don’t have a choice.

Phoebe injects an “outside view”, since she’s still new to The Firm. She says that David and Phil look to be bigger threats than Elise and Teneale.
Caitlin then says that David is injured and can he really continue in the competition in the state he’s in?

Wayne says he still intends on sticking to the original agreement. Apparently forgetting that it’s Phoebe’s decision too…
He says if the other’s go against the rules then the Firm will be pretty much dissolved then…

Phil, David, Rick and Joe are having a chat about how the voting may go. If Caitlin and Daina turn against them now then they’d be shooting themselves in the foot since payback’s a bitch!
Phil says that the Yellow Girls using their brains would vote Phil and David out since they present the bigger threats… but they’ve got to stick by the rules. Because them’s the rules and they’ll get bullied if they choose to go. Wait, no, it’s just the rules. Riiiight, Phil?

Elise and Teneale are chatting to Caitlin and Daina, trying to edge them towards maybe voting out the boys. And then maybe Lisa and Jarna or Shannon and Chris will fall below the Line in the next two weeks and they’ll get rid of them first and then the four girls will be in a much stronger position.
Elise says the last two weeks have been quite negative for her and she feels she still has a long way to go.
Daina tells us that Elise saying she doesn’t want to go home yet has put a dagger in her heart.
Daina’s getting quite teary talking to the Pink Ladies.

Caitlin says she’s becoming quite torn because the Pinks are like their sisters. So it’s come down to sticking by The Firm or backstabbing them.
I, personally, vote for backstabbing. Not so much because I want Teneale and Elise to stay, just because it would almost certainly cause The Firm to crumble into dust. I hate alliances!

And now it’s time for Elimination. Everyone looks very solemn, even more solemn than usual. Even Lisa and Jarna who presumably still have no clue what’s happening.
Chris and Shannon always look kind of sour so it’s hard to tell with them.

Phil and David have lost over 60kg between them, Elise and Teneale 35kg. Not bad on either account!

Hayley tips her hand that she knows about The Firm by suggesting that the deciding factor might be friendship, loyalty, obligation or strategy. Oooh!

Phil is asked how much he needs to stay there and Phil says he’s got a long way to go to be a better Dad for his kids and a better husband. He’ll give it his best in the days to come if he’s still at Camp. It’s a tough slog but he wants to continue on, especially if it’s at the expense of the two great girls.
David doesn’t feel safe, he loves the girls and he knows the others have a really hard decision to make.

Teneale says her and Elise still have a lot of demons and Elise has a long way to go too. Teneale’s been hiding behind Elise’s low self esteem to avoid dealing with her own low self esteem. For them it’s not just about the physical changes it’s about the mental changes too and she’s scared if they go home because she might slip back into old habits.
Elise says they’re prepared for either verdict, they want to stay of course but if they go home they get to see their families and continue on the outside. “But we’ve realised there’s a lot of firm relationships here… and that might be the reason we go home.”
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Lisa and Jarna are voting first. If it’s anything but Phil and David then they don’t have two braincells between them…
Jarna says they had to put friendship aside and consider other factors. The first factor is the game, which of the couples poses the biggest threat? And the second factor is which team is better placed to do this at home.
So they’ve voted for Phil and David, naturally.

Chris and Shannon next. Second verse, same as the first!
Shannon says they’ve got good relationships with both couples and they were up all night fighting back and forth over the decision. (Seriously?) But in the end they went with their heads over their hearts and…

… voted Phil and David. Of course.

One more vote for Phil and David will be enough to send them home.

Wayne and Phoebe now. Obviously they’ve voted Elise and Teneale to leave the Yellow vote for DRAMA purposes…
Wayne says that it was tough for them because they’re a new team essentially and they have different sets of friends. But when Phoebe came across to his team he let her know that he had a firm alliance. Lisa and Jarna cover their surprise well. Chris covers his disgust less well…
Wayne says he had an alliance with Phil and David, that was somewhat well known. What was less well known was that it was with the girls as well.
Lisa mouths something that looked something like “Liars” down the length of the table. Anyone skilled at lip reading want to back me up on that?
Wayne explains the rules of The Firm about the lowest percentage being the ones who’d get voted out. Lots of talk about loyalty and respect.

Most of the alliance look pretty filthy about the big dark secret being revealed. I don’t think Wayne talked about that first…

Rick and Joe are next. They’ve already said they wouldn’t be shafting Phil and David so this is a foregone conclusion.
Joe says he’s in a firm alliance with Phil and David and the twins. Chris and Lisa exchange filthy looks with each other again. Ooooh the after-elimination stuff is going to be raucous tonight!

Both couples are now on two votes. Leaving the couple to be eliminated to be decided by Daina and Caitlin’s vote…

… right after this ad break!

Caitlin says Daina and her are the fifth couple in this firm alliance. Lisa manages to look even more filthy at that.
Caitlin says they’d been hoping it wouldn’t come to this but they all made a pact at the start so they were forced to vote for Elise and Teneale.
Aww man! Now the alliance is intact and out in the open. Boring!

Shannon looks shattered. He’s obviously realised how massively boned he is now with his piss weak efforts and that anchor of a teammate…

Caitlin says they’ll be friends forever and it takes more than a piece of cardboard to get rid of her.
Candy?

Caitlin says she was relieved to see how the voting went as they didn’t want to invent a story about why they’d vote out their besties. They wanted to be known as girls who wouldn’t turn back on their word.
Apparently they’d also had an agreement with the girls that they didn’t want to write their name’s down. But they understand why and if the roles were reversed there’d be no hard feelings. Teneale says that they understand where the girls were coming from.

Chris is asked if he knew about the alliance. He tries to claim he knew there was stuff there from the start but they didn’t know the rules. And now they do.
Yeah, sure you did.

Teneale says she would like to say she’ll continue on the outside but they can only promise to do their best. And if Elise falls then she’ll be getting picked back up and they’ll have family there for support. She’ll miss the others a lot because they’re like a second family, but they’ll be giving it their all on the outside.

Time to say byebye Pink Ladies. Lots of big hugs and apologies from the Firm members. Wayne looks quite crestfallen and Phoebe is in tears. Nobody’s looking happy right now.

Hayley then announces, right after the Pink Ladies leave, that things are about to change. Life as they know it at Camp Biggest Loser is about to be shaken up. Be prepared for anything. Don’t get too comfortable.
Okay Ajay, no problem, thanks for the warning…

Everyone heads out of the elimination room. Chris giving a very meaningful stare at Shannon on their way out. Fireworks incoming!

But first Elise and Teneale arrive back home in Bowral. Small party to welcome them back. Can’t expect too many people, they live in Bowral!

2 months on they’re both looking pretty good. Still curvy ladies but they’re exercising 7 days a week.
Before coming on the show they were in 16-18 clothes and are now a “healthy” 10-12. Nicely done!
Seeing their audition tapes is a big wakeup call to both girls, seeing how in denial they were before. They both look much happier and healthier now. Hopefully they’ll continue on their journey.

And at the start of the ad break is another little spot about Pedigree dog food helping the girls’ doggies be more healthy too!

Shannon’s first to pipe up. They’ve now got a Firm happening over there. The Blue and Purple Firm. It’s nice that they’re over on the far side of the room.
Shannon tells us that he’s the President of “The Leftovers” and they’re going to do everything they can to take The Firm down.
You mean you might nudge Chris into exercising properly? I’d like to see that!

Lisa says to us that she’s not angry about the alliance more just disappointed, particularly in the girls who were dishonest, apparently?

Then they leave the lounge room to “have a meeting” Lisa says with a wink.

Rick, genius, says The Firm being out in the open is going to give the other’s further motivation.
Wayne says the members of The Firm will have to step it up. The others won’t be able to, Chris will just do what he did last week because it worked for him. So if it means getting up at 5 in the morning, they get up at 5 in the morning!

Michelle and Shannan arrive at Camp. The girls being gone isn’t likely to go down well with either trainer…

Michelle’s disappointed to see Elise and Teneale not there, especially as she felt they’d made a lot of progress in the last week.
Michelle is then even more shocked to find out that Phil and David fell below the line with them. She was shocked because she knew how hard they’d been working and Phil and David had been pulling huge numbers.
Michelle tells them they have to get strict because that’s obviously what the other team have done.

Caitlin then spills the beans on The Firm. Saying they’ve been “controlling the game”. Michelle rolls her eyes and is generally unimpressed.
She tells us that there’s only two things you can control in the game – your food and your training!

Shannan is thrilled to see his whole team still there. Injuries, no immunity, they all still pulled through!
Revealing the weights has Shannan impressed… and then they drop the bomb of The Firm.

Shannan looks… less than pleased. But it’s time for the first training session of the week, always the best one. He’s got an awesome reward for them all!
Cue disbelieving laughter from his team. Nobody believes you anymore Shannan, time to change tactics!

Michelle and Shannan’s teams are training together today. They’ve enlisted some special help for today.
They’ve had some experts from various fields already. Running with Matt Shirvington, rugby with the Waratahs…
As they approach The Yard they can see a mysterious figure punching away at a heavy bag.
Shannan says this man needs no introduction, three time world champ… Rick and Wayne instantly know who it is.

It is, of course, Anthony Mundine. Round of applause for The Man which has him look suitably embarassed.
He says he wants to congratulate them all for making that first step, a step that’ll change their life. They have to persevere, keep striving, never give up and when you leave the competition you’ll have a lot more self esteem and pride.
Mundine informs us that he’s there to teach the contestants about mental awareness, strength, discipline and determination. He tells the contestants that anything is possible in life if you put in the work.

Michelle says they’re actually quite similar, the contestants and Mundine. He’s always been the underdog and been told he can’t do things and while he may now be an elite athlete, he’s got there through hard work, like the contestants will have to do.

They’re doing circuit training with the end of the circuit being 6 minutes in the ring with Anthony Mundine. Meaning Mundine will be working out for, what, 84 minutes? Geez!
Caitlin gets in the ring first. Mundine says Caitlin has impressed him with her outlook and determination. Caitlin tells us that she’s always trying to impress Michelle but to impress Mundine is something special.
Daina’s also had her session with him though we don’t see much of that.

Wayne and Phoebe get in the ring next. Wayne says Mundine’s not that tall next to him so he’s fancying his chances a bit. That they’re just punching mitts doesn’t seem to matter.
Anthony keeps lifting his mitts higher while Phoebe’s trying to punch them causing her to exclaim that her hands don’t go that high!
Lisa says he turned her arms to butter, but that’s what it’s all about!

Shannon gets the same treatment then has to chase Mundine around the ring while doing combinations. Good workout.

Phil’s shifting a tire around The Yard when Michelle comes around for a chat with him about what happened in the weigh-in, with Phil’s revelation of having been bullied.
Michelle looks horrified by the whole thing. She says that sort of experience stays with you for a long time.
Michelle tells him it’s time to fight back and Phil says that he definitely has to, he needs to be around for his kids for a long time to come and to make sure nothing happens to them.

Michelle says she has exactly the right thing for him now. Time to get in the ring. Perfect timing, Michelle says. It’s time for Phil to show he’s better than that and he didn’t deserve that.
Mundine asks him during the punching if he’s hurting and Phil says yes while he’s still punching and Mundine says good, I want you to hurt more! He continues flailing away harder with some coaching from Mundine on how to do jabs and so on.
Mundine says Phil impressed him with the determination on his face. “It was written all on his grill.” Hmm.

When the session is done Phil says thanks Choc and Mundine has a few quiet words in his ear, something about keeping on going.

Everyone else gets their chance at training with Mundine and then it’s finally time to have a seat on the bleachers.
Phil says they all knew that it couldn’t be over just yet.

Mundine addresses them first to say they showed all the grit and determination that they need to be a champion and he was very impressed and happy to be a part of it. But one guy in particular showed courage and grit and dug down deep and he’s calling him out because he’s man enough to stand up to The Man.
Mundine hands over a pair of signed boxing gloves (nice!) and Phil is obviously very touched by the gesture.
Shannan says that Phil never had anyone do anything for him before and to have Mundine pick him out of the group, seen something special in him, meant the world to him.

Then they hope in the ring for some goofy sparring. Phil’s going in with quick jabs while Mundine fends him off, then they trade light body punches and more punching. Phil’s using his bulk to his advantage, blocking the ring off so Mundine can only eat the light jabs Phil’s dispensing. Mundine flicks out a couple of quick punches a few times and the fight finally ends when Phil gets a tiny bit wobbly after eating a light tap on the chin.

All during the fight everyone is laughing and saying that was the best bit of the whole day. Phil says afterwards that it’s one of the most precious moments in his life.

Mundine tells them all that it’s been an honour and a privilege to work with them today. By the time they leave, if they’ve kept the right direction mentally and followed what their trainers say, they’ll come out as new people. With a cockiness and brashness like himself! Everyone has a laugh and applauds him.
Phil says to us that he wants to thank Anthony for being so open and friendly and for the time he took with them today. He’s not just a great boxer he’s a great Aussie and a genuine person.

Tomorrow night the contestants revisit their old life… and burn some old clothes again. Lots of baggy baggy clothes!
And later in the week a new Temptation that will “shake up the competition” and deliver ultimate power to the winner. Oooh!

And still to come this week, joy, struggle, challenge, inspiration and on Sunday the steaks have never been higher.

Um. Stakes.
