TBL 5×08: The One With The Second-Chance Elimination Thing
Previously, on The Biggest Loser, Geoff left due to health reasons and now someone will be partnered up with Wayne…
… after the Elimination tonight!
Facing elimination are Chris and Shannon and Jenni and Phoebe.
Smart money is on Chris and Shannon but you never do know how the fat people’s minds will work.
The atmosphere is tense as they emerge from the weigh-in room. Nobody wants to say anything much, Daina says.
Shannon’s first to pipe up in the lounge room, saying he didn’t sign up to do this with Wayne. No offense!
Jenni says it’s much the same with her and Phoebe. The prospect of splitting up is upsetting.
Wayne’s starting to get a bit shirty. He’s lost his partner too and now he’s going to get one of the smallest losers of the week as a new partner who might not put in the required effort and thus put Wayne in danger too.
People seem to be confused as to whether Chris is playing a game. Huh? He’s begging to be eliminated, it’s not a smart tactic!
Elise is having trouble deciding who to vote for because on one hand she has to pick someone to partner with Wayne but she also doesn’t want someone to be there who doesn’t really want to be there anymore!
They all file into the Elimination Room. Hayley’s there, again. She says hi, by the way.
Cue chatter about the whole situation again, in case we didn’t understand what’s happening from all the chatter in this episode already…
Jenni says the decision for them is easy, Phoebe will be staying if they’re voted out. Jenni doesn’t want that to happen but she obviously cares a lot about Phoebe.
Phoebe’s not ready for Jenni to go home, either. Jenni was amazing to come with Phoebe in the first place and now she’s prepared to go so Phoebe can stay.
Shannon says it’s important for him to stay. While he’s excited to be down to 187kg if he goes outside at that weight people are still going to be shocked by his size.
Shannon knows he gave 100%. He didn’t sit out of any challenges, he completed all training sessions, didn’t whinge, didn’t complain. Err, yeah, except for that first challenge where you didn’t even complete a quarter of the distance required before giving up and only after much encouragement from your partner and support from Shannan did you continue on.
Ain’t 100%! Be proud of what you did but don’t tell fibs!
Hayley asks him if he could’ve done more and Shannon says if he could do situps in his sleep?
Chris also feels like he’s put in a lot of effort too. They got their diet almost perfect, cutting out tiny little essential things to save on the extra calories.
Meanwhile Caitlin has been totally giving them the stink eye and shaking her head.
Hayley finally asks her about that… and we go to an ad break. Dangit!
After the ad break… Caitlin explains that everyone can say they’ve done enough but deep down they know they haven’t and you can’t use that as an excuse. She’s seen Chris training and she doesn’t think he’s training as hard as he thinks it is.
Chris is… pissed. He says that’s great coming from someone who stands on the edge of the treadmill watching it count kilometres instead of running them.
Caitlin says if you want to make it personal, a number of other contestants have seen him get on for five minutes then jump off and walk away.
Shannon then pipes up to say nobody has the right to tell anybody else they didn’t do as much as they could.
Elise? Teneale? One of them. Says that Shannon needs to listen to what was said, Caitlin was asked a question and she said that Chris could have done more. But so could everyone. Go to bed an hour later and you could have done more.
Wayne says that the boys have been training as hard as him, at least within the training group. What he does outside of that is his own business and we shouldn’t judge him.
Okay, so that’s Wayne also confirming Chris is a lazy fucker. Cool, guess we know who the votes will be for!
In the event of a hung vote – 3 votes each, tonight – the couple with the lowest percentage will be eliminated. This week that’s Jenni and Phoebe.
First to vote are Elise and Teneale.
They say that the choice was really hard because both couples have said they’d make the sacrifice for their partner but for them it came down to who’d really give it their all as Wayne’s partner. And the other one would go home and lose the weight and come back strong for the 42km marathon.
Interesting reasoning… and they’ve voted for Phoebe and Jenni, though it’s got them both in tears.
Through the tears they say they know Jenni can do it and Jenni seems okay with it.
Caitlin and Daina vote next. Caitlin says they’re using much the same reasoning, who’d be the best partner for Wayne. Interesting. Caitlin says she knows Phoebe can do it.
One more vote for the girls and they’ll be eliminated. Very unexpected so far!
Lisa and Jarna are next. Lisa says they want to play with as much honesty, integrity and loyalty they can. They have to choose where their loyalties lie, which is tough since they’re both in their training group…
They’ve voted out Shannon and Chris!
Phil and David are next. Tough decision for them, too. It’s about which would team with Wayne, for them. Either Wayne and Phoebe or Wayne and Shannon. And one of those has the potential to be a “powerhouse couple” so that’s why they voted for…
After another interminable ad break, we find they’ve voted for… Phoebe and Jenni!
Meaning Phoebe and Jenni are the eliminated couple, as there’s no need to see more votes since a tie would result in them going home anyway.
… now it comes down to who’ll get to stay.
Phoebe’s teary. She wants to become a stronger person so she can do the best she can. And she knows Jenni will do the best she can. And hopefully the house will be temptation free by the time she gets home!
Jenni laughs and says she hadn’t thought of that angle!
Jenni tells Hayley she’s looking forward to the challenges awaiting her at home.
Chris is feeling relieved. He’s feeling a bit sheepish and apologetic, so he says sorry to the girls and Caitlin graciously accepts and says she’s having a bad day too.
Jenni’s lost 17kg on the show so far. The 3 weeks she’s been there. Except for how it’s only been two weeks Hayley!
Now Jenni has to say byebye. Hayley’s tearing up again as she says goodbye and says she really respects her and that they’ll look after Phoebe. Awww, ya big old softy!
Lots of hugs and good lucks and so on. Jenni asks Wayne to look after Phoebe for her and everyone else gives their assurance that they’ll look after her too.
Shannon asks Phoebe if she’s alright. She’s in tears but she nods anyway and gives Jenni a hug and asks her to say hi to her Mum and Dad. Aww!
New red team, Wayne and Phoebe. Phoebe’s a redhead, too. She’s going to look bad in that red shirt!
Hayley says to Shannon and Chris that they only fell below the Yellow Line by the slimmest of margins but they clearly need to lift their game to stay above it. So clearly Hayley agrees with what was said earlier, too!
Everyone wanders back into the lounge after elimination. Tension is… tense. Again!
Chris knows he’s probably caused a bit of a ruckus.
Wayne says the problem was he questioned two people’s character, and especially those four, you just don’t do that.
Elise says that it takes two and they should be apologising to him too. They brought it up and so they’re sorry too.
Wayne tells us the problem is that Chris just says some stupid things, things that don’t need to be said.
Phoebe’s about to give her opinion on Chris but Chris is all, “Ohhh, can people just leave me alone?!”
Phoebe says we’ve been given this opportunity that will never come around again and Phoebe feels like he doesn’t really appreciate that.
Chris says everyone came to the journey from different paths and nobody knows how he got there.
I’m guessing a car was probably involved…
Phoebe says they’re not denying that he’s come from hard places and that he’s got issues to deal with…
Chris chokes up trying to get his reply out… And then walks out. Ha!
Shannon follows him out and we see some crew scurrying out of shot in the foyer. Heh.
Chris tells us he left because he didn’t want to say anything else because it’ll just get a lot worse. So in other words he was going to be an even bigger dick but actually managed to put a lid on it for a change? Progress!
Shannon knows what Chris wanted to say and he thinks he needs to say it to get it off his chest.
Shannon says it’s unlike Chris to just walk away.
Chris is muttering grin and bear it and Shannon says he should speak up, everyone else does, why should he shut up?
Chris now wants some alone time. Sook!
Jenni’s arriving back home to a backyard with old people in it. Lots of smooches from her husband, big hug from… Her son? Not sure.
2 months on and she’s looking much healthier. Seeing her personal trainer 4 times a week. Sticking to her diet has been quite easy!
She was a Size 24 on arriving at Camp Biggest Loser, she’s now a 16-18. Not bad at all.
Her interview tape shows just how much weight she’s lost around the face. She looked quite bloated previously.
Then it’s time for an ad break and the first ad? An ad for pedigree pet food as Jenni’s doggy is getting the benefits of a healthier owner too as Jenni takes her for walks as part of her exercise regime. Sweet!
Shannan and Michelle rock up after Elimination, nervous as ever. They’re both hoping to not see any of their team’s gone.
Michelle is stoked to see she still has as many people as she did before elimination.
She catches up with the pink ladies first. Michelle says it’s great to see them still up in the top four considering they’re the smallest girls in the house!
Caitlin’s number really impresses Michelle, too. Caitlin’s displeased, however. She’s had enough of not being good enough.
Michelle’s not letting her get away with that though. She has Michelle’s support and her teammate’s support.
Teneale was disappointed to hear Caitlin say that but she’s hoping Caitlin will use it as a prod to do even more.
Caitlin tells us she’s not had many compliments in her life and so she wants to work hard to make sure she makes Michelle proud and herself proud.
Shannan wanders in to see one of his people missing and Phoebe in a red shirt, so obviously one of his people has gone.
Wayne explains that Caitlin “attacked” Chris about his training and Shannon says that it felt like a personal attack on Chris.
Shannan is surprised that everyone else is telling stories about the elimination while Chris sits there in silence.
Jarna prods at him and says that he said there was stuff they don’t understand? Shannan asks what it is they don’t understand. Chris says it’s stuff he doesn’t want to go into just yet. “Might be your last chance, buddy!”
Chris says a lot of people are there for the weightloss and he is there for that, for sure.
Then he breaks down in tears again.
He was in a job at one stage where he was earning a good living. His confidence was way up at the time. But ever since then has brought him right down.
At one stage he was living in a tent with his girlfriend.
People ask him why he keeps talking about going home? Because he wants to make sure his girlfriend still has a home.
Shannan says to us that he can imagine how stressful it was for Chris to lose what he had… but he still has his health, he still has his girlfriend, it’s time to show some character and work his way out of the place he’s at!
Chris’ girlfriend said to him that when he comes back she wants the old Chris back. Chris with his confidence up high.
Shannan says to him that at the moment he’s here and he resents the fact he’s there. Resents the fact he lost his job, resents being in a tent… he’s got the opportunity of a lifetime, right now. If he goes home now it’d be the same Chris going back.
Chris has got a huge fight ahead of him, both to lose the weight and regain his old life.
Shannan asks Shannon what options Chris has – change, wake up. Other is to do nothing and go home.
Shannan tells him that he’s got no rock to crawl under so he better be ready.
Shannon thinks it’s good for the group to know where Chris is coming from. Hopefully it’s all up from here.
Special training session for both training teams today. They head off on a road trip in their little station wagons again.
Lots of tension in the air so this special session has come at a perfect time.
Elise says they walked onto the training ground and saw some big boys tackling things. Rick and Joe realise it’s a footy team. Phil says to us that when he saw it was rugby union and the blue, he realised it was the mighty Waratahs!
Shannan says they’re some of the toughest athletes in the world.
Rick and Joe love their footy. Everyone in the house knows they’re big footy fans so this is a big thrill for them.
Phil Waugh’s leading them. Along with a bunch of other lads. Phil Waugh captains the Waratahs but he’s also captained the Wallabies. Very big name guest!
Phil says everything they do on the field is based on pride. Chris says to us that that’s something he needs to get back. Something he wants.
And Phil’s got them down and doing pushups for a warmup, then star jumps, then more pushups. Jarna says she was stuffed by the end of the warmup!
First training thing is “drop and drive”. Pick up the ball, drive against a wallaby with a crashmat, drop at a cone, get back up, drive further.
Teneale says her and Elise are overweight but they’re still only tiny! The boys will pummel them!
Rick says that their Dad’s a huge fan of Phil Waugh. So they want to show their Dad they’ve still got a bit of mongrel in them!
Michelle says it was exciting seeing Rick and Joe really getting off on the training session. You’re a dirty birdy, Mish!
Joe says that when he was about 16 he was playing pretty good footy and maybe could have made A-Grade, but he sort of gave up. Thought drinking and eating bad food was more fun. He’s pretty disappointed by that, now.
Rick and Joe push the scrum machine by themselves. With four Waratahs and Michelle sitting atop the machine as ballast!
Then it’s time to tackle the big punching bag type crash mats.
Michelle wants Caitlin to step it up and Daina is impressed by how hard Caitlin is going. Caitlin would go hard at the tackle bag and go around the back and puke, then go around again, tackle it again, get up and go up the back and puke again, then do it again and again.
And she’s grinning like a psychopath!
Phil’s really impressed by how hard Caitlin’s gone, you know someone’s gone hard when they do that and he’s not seen many girls do that. Michelle says she was awesome, she pays respect to anyone who pukes, gets up and gets on with it.
Chris says he’s giving it his all. Shannan’s set Chris a challenge, however – do everything Wayne does. Wayne was Biggest Loser so he’s hoping he’ll set a good example.
Wayne’s a little peeved by the idea and is mentally calling him campervan since everywhere Wayne goes he has to tow Chris along…
Chris and Wayne go head to head on the drop and drive. Wayne wins the first two but Shannan isn’t concerned as he just wants to make sure Chris keeps trying. Will he be a man of his word or will he find a rock to crawl under.
Chris says, again, that he’s giving it everything. Not a chance he’ll let Wayne beat him.
Right near the end of the last race Wayne swoops across to try and knock the ball out of Chris’ hands which brings a smile to his face.
Toughest drill has been saved till last – The Gauntlet. Pick the ball up and get it over the line.
Only problem? There’s about 600kg of man between them and the try line.
They’re doing it in couples though so they can pass between each other.
David and Phil go first. David takes it fairly casual… Phil takes it really seriously and charges hard when he gets the ball. Priceless look on his face!
Elise and Teneale have a go and everyone is giggling as they giggle trying to get past the boys. Teneale says it was what they needed, a bit of light hearted fun.
The highlight for everyone was Rick and Joe having their go. They went hard and the Waratahs went hard in return but the boys made it through!
Tomorrow night, “Another classic battle”. Brains and Brawn challenge thing again. Get an answer wrong and 5 litres of water get put into the bucket they’re trying to hold up. Fun!
Still to come this week? Matt “The Lunchbox” Shirvington! They’re going to learn how to do proper sprinting.
Later in the week, a 10K run?
And another Masterclass?
And at some point Chris and Shannan are going to do some quite intense boxing sparring. If you’ve seen previous seasons you’ll know Shannan’s no slouch when it comes to boxing so it ought to be good to watch him punch Chris in the face a bunch!
