TBL Australia 4×72: Cook off and bio age testing and such. Fascinating!
Previously on The Biggest Loser, Bob fall down go boom!
Also Tiffany now has the Double bracelet and Stewart’s been giving a most deserving bum’s rush!
Tonight a revisit of the biological age testing to see how far they’ve come.
Also, time to hit the kitchen. The first ever Biggest Loser cookoff.
It’s about time! Wait, this is the first season after I suggested such a thing. Hey, they do listen sometimes…
Michelle and Shannan arrive and find Stewart missing. They don’t seem too upset, though they do notice him gone.
Only 4 people left, it’s a lot easier to notice missing people now!
Then the contestants recap the events of yesterday for the trainers. How excitement!
Both Michelle and Shannan look horrified at Sammy having to do the instant elimination. They also think it would have been easier for some of the others.
Shannan asks how Sammy decided on sending Stewart home. Sammy says Sharif is the bigger threat but he’s always given her good advice, always stuck by her… if she’d sent Sharif home she wouldn’t’ve been able to sleep at night.
Michelle says it’s quite remarkable, what Sammy’s done. Sharif says it speaks volumes of the kind of person Sammy is.
Then they’re off in the kitchen where Michelle announces that it’s time for The Biggest Loser Cookoff.
The idea, Michelle says, is to make sure they can look after themselves, in kitchen-y terms, when they get home.
Sammy grins at her Dad. Tiffany looks over at Cameron with a bit of a smile on her face too.
They have three ingredients – blueberries, chicken and bok choi.
Each of them has to cook an entree, a main and a dessert. At least one of the ingredients must be in each meal, but they can use any additional ingredients they want. Cam was looking a bit perplexed until then!
Shannan then announces that whoever wins this little cookoff will win a pretty nice prize – a $4,500 BBQ! From Everdure.
Looks very shiny, but I’m not sure I’d pay $4,500 for it!
They have 45 minutes to cook all three meals. Sammy’s a little worried because it sometimes takes her 45 minutes to cook a single meal.
Once they get underway Sammy asks the other guys if they reckon Shannan and Michelle have ever had food poisoning. She’s a bit nervous!
Cam asks Sammy if you’re supposed to cook bok choi. Yes. Do what with it? Stir fry and… stuff.
Sharif’s not surprised Cam can’t cook. He’s a fish out of water.
But he’s apparently not afraid to use a bunch of spice on his chicken breasts. No idea what it is but I hope it’s not chili-based!
Sharif sledges Sammy a little when she pours some water into her wok to do a bit of steaming.
Then Cam asks “boofhead” (his daughter, folks!) for the bottle of water so he can do some steaming of his veggies too!
Tiffany’s having a little trouble with her beans. She squeezes a bottle of what she thinks is lemon juice in with the beans but it’s actually lime.
I’m not sure either would taste nice with beans but I’ve gone off them lately anyway.
Sammy says it smells good. Takes a second sniff and says it smells like… something else. I couldn’t make it out!
Cam wonders how they’ll get new trainers if they end up killing them off today.
Everyone thinks Sharif has this in the bag because he’s really good in the kitchen, chopping things up nicely and having everything laid out nicely. He’s even remembering to taste things as he goes along.
Sharif says the thought of sabotaging someone did cross his mind but he looked over at Cam at one point – just in time to see Cameron pouring some chocolate topping into his berry smoothie. He figured there’s little need to sabotage as people will sabotage themselves. Particularly Cam!
Cam’s about to blitz his smoothie in the blender but luckily Sam reminds him to put a lid on it first.
Sharif has a bowl full of cottage cheese, blueberries with a raspberry coolie on top.
Not sure I’d want cottage cheese with berries in it. That’s a bit weird. But then I liked cottage cheese with pineapple in it so maybe I shouldn’t judge.
It’s been 45 minutes, Shannan and Michelle announce. And Michelle says she’s feeling slightly nervous!
Cam says, “Um. I would!”
Michelle says she loves her food, so she’s really excited about this comp.
Sammy goes first. Her entree is eggplants and mushrooms topped by cottage cheese with bok choi mixed in.
Stir fry with snowpeas, carrot, mushroom, onion, garlic, chili, little bit of worcestershire and a little bit of soy. Topped with some chicken it seems.
Michelle is really impressed by what Sammy’s put together. She’s only 20 and hasn’t really done a lot of cooking before but she’s been quite smart about it all.
Her dessert is “carb smart ice cream” (?) with blueberries and raspberries and a little vanilla essence.
Tiff’s entree is a tapas thing. Grilled capsicum and some garlic bok choi.
Shannan’s surprised by what Tiffany serves up as she’s always saying she’s the “Mother who doesn’t cook”.
Tiff’s main is mustard chicken on some beans and tomato, flavoured with lime and lemon.
Tiff’s dessert is vanilla blueberries and yoghurt. She microwaved the blueberries with equal and vanilla. Michelle’s loving the dessert, as is Shannan.
Cam’s up next. Uhoh. Run!
His entree (?) is cajun chicken and mushroom. It… doesn’t look all that appetising.
Michelle gamely tries some though. No word on taste.
Main is chicken with stir fry of bok choi, cabbage, onion, carrots, capsicum, worcestershire sauce and chicken.
Shannan’s impressed because Cam wouldn’t eat vegetables when he came into the house and now he’s made a stir fry with five different vegetables and some lean chicken in it!
Last but not least, Cam’s dessert. A punnet of blueberries blitzed in with a tub of yoghurt and made a bit more interesting with some light chocolate topping so it’s minimal calories, but gives it a choc-berry flavour.
Michelle tries it first. And seems completely shocked when she has to admit it’s really good!
Shannan immediately digs in and agrees with Michelle’s assessment. Well done Cam!
Then the odds-on favourite, Sharif.
Entree is baby spinach salad with cottage cheese and balsamic dressing. Red, yellow and green capsicum, spanish onion and cherry tomatoes.
Sharif’s confidence is growing.
But then Michelle asks if bok choi is in there. And Sharif suddenly realises he forgot to put the bok choi in! Silly Sharif!
Main course is wilted bok choi, stir fried chicken, chili, garlic and ginger, squeeze of lemon for flavour. Looks very colourful.
Sharif’s dessert generates an “AWWWWWWWWW!” from the trainers. Punnet of blueberries, 100g of cottage cheese and a raspberry coolie to put on top. Looks very pretty and Shannan and Michelle both love it as well.
Michelle says she’s impressed by everyone. Shannan says they’re awarding one point each to each dish.
Shannan gives his entree point to Sammy. As did Michelle.
Mains, Tiff gets Shannan’s point. And Michelle’s point.
Dessert gets Tiff another point from Shannan and Sharif finally gets a point from Michelle.
So Tiffany wins with 3 points!
She says a couple of months ago she could have never done it. She used to mostly eat takeaways, now she can whip up some kind of gourmet, award-winning, food!
Coaches encouragement award goes to Cameron for his vast improvement. He gets to keep his apron. Ooooh!
Now it’s time for a retest of their biological ages.
For those who missed that earlier in the season it’s a test that takes into account your chronological age and your relative level of fitness, your dietary and lifestyle choices, etc. So smokers end up older than non-smokers, heavy drinkers end up older than teetotallers, etc.
Some of them had previously added 25 years onto their life.
They’ve already done a bunch of blood tests and other strength and flexibility tests.
Today they get to do another “beep test”. Basically you run a 20m course. You run in between beeps. Beep sets you off running and you have to make it to the end of the course before the next beep. The beeps gradually get faster and faster, making it harder and harder to get to the end of the 20m, especially as you complete more and more laps and thus get more tired anyway.
Cameron surprises Shannan with how well he’s doing. He managed 4 laps the first time but now he’s running properly and everything!
Shannan says Tiffany’s beep test is one of the most memorable things he’s seen in the series. All the other contestants have dropped out but she didn’t just say she’d won and stopped, she kept going and kept trying to better herself.
And now it’s time to see if their hard work has reversed the damage they’d done.
Sharif’s chrono age is 32, old bio age was 56. New bio age: 40!
Not bad. He’s still older biologically, but he’s made a very clear improvement.
Sammy’s chrono age is 20, old bio age was 32. New bio age: 24!
Michelle’s ecstatic, as is Sammy. She’s almost down to her chrono age now and she says she can actually feel the difference now.
Cameron’s chrono age is 52, old bio age was 62. New bio age: 54!
Cameron is thrilled and cheers. Michelle gives him a big hug and Shannan shakes his hand. Definitely the most impressive result so far.
Tiffany’s chrono age is 28, old bio age was 40. New bio age: 23!
Are you shitting me?! That’s amazing. They’re all stoked for her and Tiffany is clearly over the moon.
Paul the bio age guy says it’s the biggest turnaround he’s ever seen. 17 years in 3 months is pretty impressive!
Sunday… last chance training FROM HELL!
Also, the final weigh-in followed by the final elimination. Who’ll be going to the finale and who’ll be going home.
Find out Sunday. No, for reals. It’s all going to happen in one night for a change!
