TBL Australia 4×33: I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my biiiiike…
Previously on The Biggest Loser, Holly and Mel got eliminated… but they were actually quite pleased!
Tonight, Shannan’s team is busting boards, kung fu style!
And all the contestants have to cycle for their supper – 10c towards the shopping budget for each kilometre they cycle.
Cameron also whines a bunch more like the whiny whiner he is. Won’t that be fascinating?
Sammy’s still boggling at Holly and Mel leaving quite happy. Tiffany feels strange, too.
Bob says to everyone he’d rather be training with 3 couples who do want to be there than dragging a 4th couple along when they don’t want to be there.
Julie thinks Mel and Holly might regret leaving… Nathan hopes they do, he thinks they won’t lose the same numbers on the outside.
Completely missed the point, dude…
Michelle and Shannan jog up to the house. Michelle’s hoping Holly and Mel will still be there… but is of course crushed to see they’re gone.
Michelle thinks Holly and Mel will regret the decision, she thinks they took the easy way out.
But Michelle respects her team’s decision… but she’s disappointed because the girls really needed to be there, in her opinion.
Michelle’s ecstatic at Nathan and Andrew’s numbers.
And then gobsmacked by Bob’s loss!
Michelle’s up and down a whole bunch dispensing kisses and hugs to everyone.
Cameron’s 4.9kg was “pretty good” he says, Michelle’s very happy!
Shannan boggles at Holly and Mel choosing to leave. Shannan thinks it’s a bit of a cop out, saying they wanted to leave because the game messes with their head… Sharif’s the one who told Shannan that. I’m sure Sharif’s not feeding you porkies, Shannan.
“That’s massive!” Shannan tells Julie and Meaghan. Or “Mum” and Meaghan! He says “who cares, dude?!” in response to her saying it wasn’t enough to stay above the line.
Then Shannan asks Sharif and Teresa, Sharif says 7.2kg. And Shannan asks if that’s between them, which Sharif says no to. Shannan checks with Sean who just nods. “You’re a freak, dude!”
He also says Bob’s a beast for being the Biggest Loser for a 4th week.
Bob’s very humbled by being on the honour board… but also, deep down inside, he’s like, “YES!”
Bob tells Michelle that he’s more amazed than anyone that his name is up there so much. And he’s never had his name up on stuff before!
Michelle wants her gang to understand that the game only gets tougher from now on. And they’ve all got to rely on each other, work together!
They have a huge, thick rope. They’re lifting it above their heads and running up and down the field with it above their heads. Feel the burn!
Cameron’s flaking out a bit, as usual, but with Michelle’s encouragement he gets through it.
Meanwhile Shannan’s team is all dressed up in gi’s for some martial arts training. Awesome!
“Andy” from North Star Martial Arts is a black belt. In what, Shannan doesn’t say. I would assume something karate-y, but not sure. He does say there’s spirit involved though.
Shannan wants them to focus on positive thinking and positive attitude.
Andy’s got them doing training stance and some punching and so on.
Shannan’s encouraging Meaghan and Julie. Still calling her Mum though!
Then Shannan’s tapping away at Julie’s sides with very weak punches for her to block. But it all gets a bit much for her, again, and she ends up half-collapsing.
She says she thought she was getting everything together, but then the weigh-in came along and they were last again. Shannan tells her that 3.5kg was great, he was only expecting her to get 1.8kg or so!
But some martial arts training isn’t all they’re going to do, today!
They’re also going to do a “board break”. Quite a few of them look terrified.
It’s just a board! They don’t fight back!
Shannan wants them to break through the barriers holding them back.
Breaking through a board is very symbolic, and speaking from my own experience, the hardest bit about it is believing you really will break through the board. It takes less effort than you might think but if you hold back even slightly you probably won’t break through. The hesitation just before you hit eats so much of the power in the strike.
You’re also much more likely to hurt yourself if it doesn’t break so it actually makes sense to hit as hard as you can.
Amanda’s first up. May have been better to choose someone more likely to get through.
But no! She actually manages it on her first attempt. And screams like a banshee, again. That’s really starting to get annoying. I guess without Stewart around she doesn’t get as much attention as she wants…
Teresa’s next. She’s quite sure she’ll break the board and she does indeed, quite easily! Real angry face on her at the time, too!
Sean doubted himself a lot before coming into the competition. Sean gets to do it with his elbow though it’s not clear why.
Meaghan’s turn now. She tells us she was freaking out, worried she’d not be able to do it. But she gets right through it, no worries!
Sharif’s turn. Shannan can see the doubt in his face.
Little surprised they’re doing knife-hand breaks. But I guess Mr Martial Arts knows what he’s doing!
Sharif fails first up. And again on his second attempt.
He asks Shannan if he can use an elbow instead and Shannan says no! Taking the easy option is what got him here in the first place!
Sharif gets his focus back and goes hard and finally breaks it!
Now it’s Julie’s turn. She doesn’t see why she needs to learn how to do this, she’s not needed it before in all her 52 years!
Shannan thinks Julie’s self doubt is probably 5 times as much as anyone else’s. He’s actually worried she may not even be able to do it. He asks her and Julie’s “as ready as she’s going to be”. Not good enough!
First attempt, Julie probably came closer to breaking her hand than the board. “It doesn’t exist, it’s all in your mind.” Andy. Apparently he’s a black belt of delusionalness!
She still has her wedding ring on her finger. I would’ve thought it’d be a good idea to take that off in case of a busted hand…
Julie takes a number of attempts with her hand, then tries with her elbow, all failures. Shannan tells Julie Sharif missed three times and Julie’s slightly teary but says she wants to do it.
Meaghan’s in tears, too. Julie’s not seen her so upset in a long time. The rest of the team have joined arms in support.
Julie gives it one more go. “I couldn’t hurt her anymore and I couldn’t fail in her eyes again.”
AND THEN SHE BREAKS IT! HOORAY!
Gets a huge cheer from the team and Shannan and bursts into tears and Shannan and Meaghan rush in for hugs!
The rest of the team is in tears now too.
Shannan says the team can break through barriers they never thought they’d be able to get through.
After the training session the nerds are all putting their food details into the laptops… apparently they’ve been breeding since now there’s 3 of them!
Teresa ate 1,356 calories on Monday, when she’s only supposed to be on 1,000 calories!
Shannan speaks very highly of the online Biggest Loser Club, since it keeps track of all your calories and carbs and whatnot for you. Seems to be legitimate praise this time, rather than, “Oh, yes, meal replacement shakes are good for you. Indeed.”
A variety of people wander into the living room to find a spin bike with a BIG tv with odometer displayed. And they have a letter!
So Sean’s tasked with getting everyone else together.
Then Sharif tells us he opened the letter and read it out to everyone.
I guess that’d be helpful for the blind people “watching” who won’t see him doing that…
Fridges and cupboards are bare once more. They must cycle for their supper.
Every kilometre racked up on the bike earns them 10c towards the food budget for the week. As a group, so it’s not going to be unfair for once!
Sharif wonders aloud how many km’s they do in a spin class.
“We’re about to find out!” – Nathan
They eventually figure out that it’ll be more of an endurance challenge. Best to keep the bike going at a steady pace at all times.
But they figure they’re looking at $48-50 a day. For all 12 of them!
They’re going to struggle!
Julie works out that with 12 of them they each need to do 2 hours a day.
Sammy’s worried about her Dad. Cameron’s wandered off once they start discussing it all.
Cam’s decided he won’t be eating this week. He’ll just drink water. If you don’t exercise you don’t need food. “We’ll just lay in bed all day, drink water and starve.” God, what a fucking irritating attitude he’s got.
Sammy’s finally had enough and walks off. She’s seen him put the negative cap back on. She doesn’t think he realises how much it annoys her.
Nathan has a sit down chat with Cameron. Nathan tells him they don’t have to be happy about it. Cam says that it’s only 2 bucks an hour. But Nathan’s more like, “2 bucks, though!” Looking on the bright side!
Nathan says that Cam’s attitude needs to change and the sooner he sees that, the better. He’ll learn that, slowly but surely. He’s not saying that to Cam, just us.
Nathan looks at it like, the more time he’s on the bike, the more weight he’s losing!
Cam’s already decided that $40 a day isn’t enough to get 1,200 calories down the throat of everyone.
Nathan tells us that Cam doesn’t think it’s achievable but Nathan knows there’s 11 people who think it is and they’ll be doing their damnedest to make sure no one goes hungry. Good man!
Cameron’s talking about doing the “riding” with just his arm on the pedal. Andrew thinks Cam’s worried he won’t be able to keep up with everyone else. Sounds a fair assessment. Cam’s that stupid. Nobody’s going to expect top speed out of Cam, Julie or Bob. Best effort is good enough!
Michelle loves the challenge. Shannan thinks it’s hilarious. Thinks there’ll be some friction if one person’s sitting on the couch but the rest have had a ride, imagine that!
Cue shot of Cam.
Shannan and Michelle boggle at Cam pedalling with his arm. Michelle also laughs. “That man will avoid the spin bike like the plague!”
Shannan tells him not to think about the money, “Why not get on the bloody spin bike, now?” Shannan’s kind of annoyed at his attitude. Michelle seems to appreciate Shannan having a crack at Cam.
Shannan wants Cam to use the opportunity to get over the negativity with the spin bike, get over the hurdle and get on with it!
Cam seems… unconvinced.
The Michelle proposes a competition! See who can go the fastest in one minute and who can go the furthest in the same time.
Michelle wants them to have fun with it because “goodness knows I was!”
Teresa’s first up. She makes it to 50.3km/h! Very, very impressive!
Sean sees it as a good thing because it’s some rivalry going between people plus it’ll get them a bunch more money for the budget!
Sean goes pretty hard to try and set a big target for Nathan.
58.6km/h! Crazy!
Nathan wants to see if he can beat Sean. Sean’s the faster though Nathan’s probably stronger.
Nathan looks very, very crazy-determined though.
Sammy’s scared of Nathan’s face while he’s pedalling.
He didn’t even get close in the end, Sean says. He made it to the mid-50s.
Tiffany has a go while Shannan says he was blown away by everyone’s attitude. Most of them would never even consider getting into a race. But because it’s a challenge, they’re wanting to race!
Michelle says Sammy was hysterical – she was having fun! Her boobs are having fun too, jiggling so much she tries to hold them in place a couple times!
Julie manages into the 30km/h range. Well done!
Everyone piles on Cameron some more after an ad break. Shannan says that doing things Cam’s way are how he got that way in the first place.
He’s making excuses on the way to the bike, saying he won’t go as fast as everyone else.
Michelle thinks he loves the spotlight, and it’s all on him right now. So he goes hard for a change!
Cam says if you don’t try your hardest they pull you through the ropes, so he thought he’d do the best he could… Still doesn’t get it at all.
Michelle and Shannan are stoked that he makes it up to 43.4km/h. Very impressive!
And the peanut gallery cheers and applauds because he really put in the effort for a change!
Sammy tells us she said to him that he did it, it was fun, everyone’s proud of you… “Put that in your head for later!”
Tomorrow night… Bob has to go back to the world of international espionage. Awww!
Well, Mr Voiceover Man says he’s off on a secret mission. I can’t think of what else it could be!
And Temptation tomorrow night is something about gigantic piles of chocolate and playing poker. I’d win. Not because I’m good at poker, just because I’m a greedy guts! Yum!
