TBL Australia 4×04: The First Temptation of the Fatties
Previously on The Biggest Loser teams were picked and trainers selected. They also helped contribute to the pollution problems of the world by burning a variety of clothing items in a bonfire.
More training lined up for tonight… and the first Temptation of the year!
“It’s a high calorie standoff!” Or so says Mr Voiceover man…
Shannan says he and Michelle can’t wait to get started! Shannan wants to talk to them about diet but first the contestants have some diet news of their own!
They inform Shannan they chose eggs over BBQ chicken and Shannan tells them it’s a great decision because they can control how they’re cooked. If they’d picked the BBQ chicken? Then the #1 tip is to remove the skin.
Shannan says nobody has come up with a better plan than calories in vs calories out.
Teresa is asked what she used to have each day and she says she was a drive-thru queen. Two hash browns for breakfast, plus an “egg burger” which I guess is a no-name egg mcmuffin, plus an orange juice.
Lunch was a double cheeseburger plus a large fries and another orange juice. And dinner was the same again.
Shannan says that it’d be about 4,500 calories a day, just for that. Teresa admits in an aside that the total figure is probably up around 6,000 calories.
Shannan tells the guys that he wants them to be eating 1,400-1,600 calories a day with the girls on 1,100 calories a day.
Michelle tells her group that the most common thing for people struggling with their weight is that they don’t eat breakfast.
She has a catchcry – eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner.
Calorie counters get passed around.
Nathan thinks he knows what healthy food choices are, he just doesn’t make those choices ordinarily.
Michelle’s got her peeps out on the beach again, doing some warmup punching and jogging in place.
They’re all starting out very determined and positive.
Michelle is looking to find out which of the couples are serious about this. She sees strength in some of the couples but weakness in the others.
Michelle says the sisters have had a lot of dramas in the past but now they need to stick together and keep each other motivated.
The brothers are doing pretty well. “Where’s your manlove now?!” – Michelle. Apparently unaware of the incestuous implication of that statement.
Michelle thinks they may be overdoing it at the start. But they get Michelle on a packing crate and carry her back up the beach. Not sure why she’s impressed, there’s two of them and she weighs the same as half a normal person!
Shannan has his people running up a hill pulling their partner along behind them, or a log, out in the bushy areas of the island.
Ben’s really struggling, he says he lost all his energy. Shannan tries to get him pumped back up, doesn’t want to let him down on the first day, does he?
He starts feeling dizzy and they have to send him off to the medic who does a prick test for his blood sugar level and it’s 3.1. Which is apparently a bit low!
Shannan says one of the most inspiring things today was Amanda starting at the bottom of the hill. She was looking really scared and afraid and then just as they’re about to go up the hill a look of determination comes over her face. Amanda says she doesn’t do hills, but she manages to do it! At a fairly slow run but a run nonetheless.
And pulling her husband Stewart along behind her!
Shannan dooms her, however. He starts talking like she might be the first female biggest loser. Heard that one before mate!
The contestants head out onto the lawn later to meet up with Ajay. She has 6 silver platters on a table, it’s time for their first Temptation!
Ajay: Did you know that diabetes is our nation’s sixth leading cause of death?
Shannan: Up to 1.7 million Australians suffer from Type-2 diabetes with obesity being one of the major causes.
Ajay: So in an effort to raise awareness I’m starting my own weightloss journey and for every kilo I lose The Biggest Loser will donate $1,000 to Diabetes Australia.
Michelle: If you want to follow Ajay’s weightloss then you can log on to the Biggest Loser website ( www.thebiggestloser.com.au ) where you can make a donation and do your bit.
Ajay: Why not join the fight, Australia, and help turn diabetes around!
I don’t normally transcribe such long bits but I think that’s noteworthy enough to make the effort. GO AJAY!!!
Now, back to the fun!
One of the six platters hides an immunity card under it. Get it first and your couple gets immunity from the first elimination.
But the other five platters all contain high calorie food, which could cost them dearly at the weigh-in.
The food plates have:
6 lollies, 80 calories.
Cheesecake, 400 calories.
Chocolate eclair, 800 calories.
Chocolate cake with cream, 1300 calories.
Beef burger with the lot, 2019 calories.
Sammy stares daggers at Cameron, she definitely doesn’t want him to go for it!
And now Ajay sticks the other knife in. There’s not one serve under each plate. There’s two. And they both must be eaten!
Whoever wins immunity will also get the power of The Walk. Which is obviously to tempt them just that little bit more!
One immunity for one couple. If you choose to play you have to race to the platters and choose one. And you must eat the food. The first to reach the correct platter will win immunity and get to take The Walk.
Will anyone go for it?
Early signs point to no! Some of them even link arms in solidarity. Poor Sean is there by himself as Ben is obviously still off with the medics. But he’s turned his back on the foods he used to eat again.
Sammy giggles and says Michelle would kill them.
Since nobody has chosen to play they’ll shorten the odds. They’ll remove the hamburger.
1 in 5 odds for immunity now.
Nathan and Andrew are whispering in each other’s ear.
Holly doesn’t trust the brothers, she can see they’re playing the game!
Nobody trusts that they won’t break later in the game.
Still, nobody goes for it. Ajay takes away the chocolate cake. Oh noes!
Immunity is now a one in four chance.
Jeda thinks Holly’s wanting to go, but Holly doesn’t want to just yet.
Chocolate eclair is removed. 1 in 3 chance. Will someone break now?
They’re all up the far end of the garden so this could get ugly if a bunch break at once!
Cameron’s thinking the calories might be worth the gamble.
The cheesecake gets removed leaving two platters. Which makes them realise both people in a couple could go and guarantee themselves the immunity. One person would have to eat both servings of the lollies but it’s only 160 calories all up. Easy!
Quite a few of them are itching to go now.
Nathan and Andrew finally break and run down to grab the platters. Quite a few calls of weak and suckers. Quite loud ones!
Holly says once they don’t have immunity they’ll be getting her vote!
All the other contestants are now very well aware the brothers are playing the game. Good chance they’re not long for this game!
The boys get to take The Walk tomorrow. Ajay reminds them that The Walk has the ability to change the game forever, yada yada yada.
Apparently the shock is so big and the biggest in Biggest Loser history and oh look it’s a bracelet with dollar signs on it, I wonder if that’s the double or nothing bracelets of cynical manipulation?
