TBL Australia 4×03: Trainers pick teams while being meaniebums!
Previously on The Biggest Loser ten couples set sail for a new life. Get it?
Tonight the trainers drop the nice guy routine from the junk food dinner of the night before and get down to serious business. Seeing how many they can make puke!
Okay, that’s probably not their goal. They’re not Jillian after all!
Tonight is also the first Warehouse for the year. Sigh.
Michelle’s looking forward to putting the new bunch to the test. And then cue a bunch of the fatties saying they’re nervous and worried but determined, oh yes!
Shannan and Michelle tell the gathered contestants that this training session is going to be pretty tough. Julie’s already having to wipe away a tear and they’re just standing around being yapped at!
The trainers also confirm they’ll be choosing teams based on these workouts. Which makes Amanda nervous. If you recall, she’s the heaviest woman ever and typically the heaviest of each sex struggles the most!
“ON YER GUTS!” Yay, Shannan’s back!
Lots of pushups plus some punching the air followed by more pushups!
Lots of complaining about how hot and sticky the beach was, plus sandy!
Michelle says that in the first five minutes some of them were breaking down. Some haven’t exercised in years. Their heart rates were going up just from the thought of exercise!
Holly complains of having just thrown up. Michelle says that’s alright!
Bob is struggling early on and eventually collapses. The medic comes to tend to him and he’s feeling a little confused and in a lot of pain. In an aside he says there had to be more, he had to have more to give.
Bob says it wasn’t good enough and Tiffany comforts him and tells him that that’s why they’re there – to change!
Shannan asks him if he’s going to give in. Bob shakes his head and Shannan says he has two choices then he can either stay where he is or he can get up and do it. Shannan gives him a hand trying to get up though Bob falls over once more on the way up then does a really slow plod up the beach.
Michelle says it was hard not to notice Sharif who was putting in 100% right from the start. He’s married and each time he thought about giving up he thought about his wife. His wife is quite pretty, too. Perhaps there’s no romance in the air with him and Teresa.
Sharif wants to be proud of himself and have his wife be proud of him. Michelle was quite impressed with his honesty so early on.
Ben gets some special treatment from Shannan, some boxing followed by pushups which causes him a lot of agony!
Nathan gets some alone time with Michelle. He’s quite happy about getting called strong by her!
Shannan tells them all the key is not to stop!
Holly’s struggling though. She’s sitting on her own having a bit of a teary moment. This causes Mel to lose motivation. Andrew says the sisters are always whinging before training about having to train, then when it’s time to train they whinge about having to train!
Holly’s sitting on the sideline saying she doesn’t want to give up.
Michelle hollers that she can’t give up. Holly says she needs to go to the toilet and Michelle counters with it meaning she doesn’t get to take a break!
Shannan tells us the setting has changed but the training itself hasn’t. It’s brutal as always!
Michelle says Holly was crying and blubbering from early on, even though she was one of the youngest there. Michelle tries to get to the bottom of it and let her know the tears wouldn’t work on her. Michelle starts telling her to get up, get up, get up!
Holly feels a little angry about Michelle getting her to get up, she was a little annoyed that Michelle didn’t seem to have much sympathy! Awww!
Michelle tells her it’s simple – does she want this? Yes or no? If she wants it then she has to get up!
Michelle follows her up and down the beach while Holly carries heavy sandbags. Holly keeps crying throughout, thinking she can’t do it. Michelle keeps following and telling her she can do it, she’s doing it! When she thinks she can’t do it, she can! When she thinks she’s going to die, she’s not! That’s what’s held her back in the past and no more!
Holly says she’s been sick all week and asks for a drink and Michelle says no! Eep!
Holly says it got harder and harder and it hurt more and more but she had to do it for Mel, she had to keep going for her.
Michelle says she really wants to help Holly because she sees flashes of brilliance behind her fear and she thinks if Holly can get past the fear she’ll be unstoppable.
Meanwhile Amanda is pushing through the exercises like quite the trooper while Sean struggles quite badly. He’s breaking into tears a bit, saying he thought he had a decent fitness level. He tells Shannan that he doesn’t want to disappoint his family and Shannan tells him he won’t if he doesn’t quit.
Shannan says it’s good to empathise with the contestants because it helps you to get the most out of them and he felt that bond with Jeda and Jodi immediately.
Jeda says in an aside that her daughter she lost is still a big part of her life, she cries about her every day.
Shannan reveals to Jeda that his mum had had a couple of still births after him, which gets Jeda to open up right away.
Jeda is really distraught saying she felt the baby moving around the day before she went into labour.
Shannan tells her that things like that are what defines her and the way she speaks about her daughter is beautiful. It’s things like that that give you the strength to get through everything else in your life.
Jeda said it felt good to know Shannan understood where she was coming from and she felt like he really did care about her.
Michelle has Ramses and Tania pulled aside. They’re both sucking in the deep breaths but they’re getting through. Tania says it’s so hard and Michelle says yes, it’s going to get hard!
Tania asks her if it gets any easier and Michelle says no, it gets harder – but you get tougher!
Amanda is in tears during her solo session with Shannan. She admits to being addicted to a variety of things, including drugs back when she was 16. She says she’s a mess, physically and mentally and she needs to get her life together.
Shannan is impressed by her beating a drug addiction and says anyone who can beat that can lose weight!
She wants to show everyone that she can be the best person she can be. And Shannan can see that determination in her eyes.
Lots and lots of sand covered fat people now. It’s all sticking to their sweaty bodies. The horror!
Shannan and Michelle start pulling people out individually. Splitting the pairs up!
Michelle says it was obvious none of them were expecting the split.
But it’s a ploy I think. Shannan says they’re looking to find out how well they work without their partner supporting them.
Meaghan says she figured those were the teams now that they’d been split. Nathan’s thinking he’s lost his brother!
Cameron’s a bit worried about Sammy being on the other team. Nathan tells Cameron that they’ve only lost someone for a while!
Holly doesn’t think she’d be able to make it through the show without Mel.
Come on guys. It’s not like you’ll be living in seperate houses and never see each other!
First selection is Shannan’s: Meaghan!
Michelle gets a red shirt out and picks: Cameron!
Shannan… walks past “his” team and goes to “Michelle’s” team to give a shirt to… Meaghan’s mum, Julie! Awwwwwwwwwww! She’s thrilled and gives Shannan a big hug.
Shannan says the whole point of making them think they’d be split up was to remind them all of how important their partners were and to not take them for granted. Cameron’s in tears.
Now that the sham is over, the other coloured t-shirts come out!
Shannan gives Amanda a purple shirt, thus Stewart gets one the same colour.
Michelle gives the brothers a powder blue shirt.
Jeda and Jodi get a pink shirt from Shannan.
Michelle gives Tania and and Ramses a black shirt.
Sean and Ben get green, Holly and Mel get canary yellow, Sharif and Teresa get orange and Bob and Tiffany get grey.
Michelle and Shannan will each be taking 5 groups of 2 contestants to work with.
The teams all make their way to a campfire. Cameron thinks maybe they’ll toast marshmallows. Ohhh noob fatties, you’re so silly.
It’s time for a symbolism pow-wow. They’re going to say goodbye to their old lives and the old ways of their life. They’re going to throw the shirts they worked out in earlier into the fire and say some words and make commitments to their partner.
Tania tells Sharif she didn’t really want to be there but the hardest part was last night, getting on the scales. Now they can start their new life as skinny hot people!
Amanda and Stewart go next. Amanda says she’s going to stop making excuses and Michelle gives a heart Hear Hear!
Amanda says Stewart’s her soulmate and she wants to be with him forever. Awwww!
Cameron dedicates it to his and his family’s future.
Jeda and Jodi dedicate it to a happy new life.
Tiffany and Bob want to set boundaries for themselves and never ever cross them again.
Sean doesn’t want to be a fat bastard anymore, he wants to be a skinny bastard! And dead sexy! Which gets a laugh out of Michelle.
Andrew’s a little nervous about stepping up but he says his kids deserve to have a dad, not a memory of a dad. Nathan says he’s going to change and be a better person, he’s making that commitment to Andrew. Andrew says that anything that Nathan will do, he’ll do better!
Julie’s been petrified of the show so far, Shannan tells us. Apparently Meaghan apologised to Julie on the beach for bringing her along because it was Meaghan’s idea. But Julie actually wants to thank her because she’d’ve never done it for herself and she has Meaghan to thank for the influence.
Holly makes a commitment to Mel to be best friends again like they were when they were five years old.
Teresa’s sick of talking, she just wants action. Sharif makes a commitment to Teresa, his “soul sister”, when she’s feeling low or she’s feeling like she wants to give up, Sharif will pick her up and drag her along. In the same way that she’ll do the same for him, to which she says, “Bloody oath!”
Sharif also makes a commitment to Shannan to always give 100% and if he looks like he can’t go on, give him some more!
Shannan says the unity from the contestants so far this year has blown both him and Michelle away.
Everyone’s kitted up the next morning in their fruity t-shirts to meet Ajay on the pier in a lovely yellowy dress which doesn’t look hideous. Hallelujah!
Ajay tells them that over the next twelve weeks they’ll discover that the Biggest Loser is not just about training their bodies but training their minds. They need to eat the right foods, not just do a bunch of exercise!
Sean says he usually grabs a pie for breakfast and a burger for lunch.
Then Ajay welcomes them all to The Warehouse… Island style!
Cue much confusion from the contestants. Until the boat arrives with two enormous crate loads of… stuff.
Everyone’s a little uncertain about what could be in the crates, what’s in the crates, oh noooooo, etc.
Nathan seems very unperturbed, saying you either pick the right one or the wrong one, that’s what it boils down to!
Ajay then tells them they have two very different types of food and they have to decide as a group which they’d live on for the next week!
In crate number one… something that makes everyone make that “oh my god” face we all know and love.
In crate number one is actually… BBQ CHICKENS!
In crate number two is actually… EGGS!
Both foods have their pros and cons but Ajay tells them they have to decide.
Chickens are good because they’re full of protein but Julie points out they’re BBQ chickens so they could be full of fat.
Sharif points out that the eggs aren’t cooked so they can control how they cook them.
Eventually everyone agrees on the eggs as they’re healthy and they can cook them however they feel is best.
Ajay doesn’t tell them if it was the right decision, only that the results will be revealed at the weigh-in!
Cameron and Sammy were impressed by everyone getting along so well during the decision making process.
Ramses and Tania think there might be a bit of a smell problem associated with eating just eggs all week. Tania thought maybe the chicken would have been more versatile and they could have taken the skin off and only eaten the white meat, etc.
Nathan and Andrew are there to make friends but they’re also there to win the game. They figure they need to be the biggest loser each week to ensure their safety.
Nathan says that some of the others are there thinking they need to lose weight and so on. But no, he knows it’s a game. And they’re going to romp them, they have no clue!
Tomorrow night is the first Temptation. There’s one immunity for one couple. Will anyone be tempted?
And on Thursday it’s The Walk. With the biggest prize in Biggest Loser history. Oooh.
Julie wonders if they’re in for a bit of doom!
The challenge looks very tough and Sammy’s going to tell Jedi to shut up!
And at the weigh-in, Ajay’s going to be wearing a really nice red dress!
Oh and something about someone might be the first to go and blah blah blah. Nice red dress!
