Biggest Loser Australia 3×58: Contestants Face Their Fears Part One
Tonight on The Biggest Loser the contestants have to face their darkest fears. Rock climbing, jumping off cliffs, the whole nine yards.
Will any of them pike out? Read on to find out…
This week is about facing their fears, Shannan tells us. Michelle says they’ll find out they’re stronger than they thought they were and will show them they’re capable of a lot.
Garry’s fear is of failure and his fear of always using excuses. Not sure that’s really a fear and fearing failure is healthy, you just have to get past the fear. Hmm. Anyway.
Garry’s got to climb a big rock face.
Michelle says Garry needs self-love. Because he won’t be getting any other kind I guess.
Michelle tells Garry he’s not going to be proving anything to his Dad or his Mum or anyone else, just prove to himself that he’s amazing!
Garry says he’s been trying to do things for other people, rather than himself. He’s not been feeling good about himself for many years, but he’s going to try and push himself to climb the mountain.
Michelle and Garry get to the base of the cliff and Michelle says it’s a little high!
Michelle tells Garry that it’s alright to be scared, it’s all part of it!
Garry says rock climbing is pretty hard for him. He felt okay doing it at the indoor centre since there was padding on the ground there. No padding on the mountain!
Garry doesn’t think he’ll manage to climb it, which Michelle says is a self-belief issue. He doesn’t think he can succeed at things.
The start of the climb is the hardest part, Michelle says. It was pretty much vertical. Michelle’s part way up the mountain already and calling down to him that he can start now.
Garry tries to lift himself but gives up before even getting off the ground. In an aside he says the person on Day One would have already given up and told Michelle he couldn’t do it. But he’s lost 50kg since then and he’s a different person now, he just has to give himself a bit of a push!
He gets started slowly but surely, with a lot of encouragement from Michelle.
Garry is telling Michelle he can’t do this, but Michelle says he can. And in an aside Michelle says he was already shutting down.
He climbs a little higher and then falls partly off, manages to grab a branch of a convenient tree. He thinks to himself, “What am I doing?!”
Michelle says she looked back at Garry and could see the fear in his eyes. She wants him to hang on, stay with her and trust her. He won’t fall off the mountain!
He’s doing pretty well, considering his size. It can’t be easy lugging all that weight up there, though I’d imagine his height would be useful when it comes to climbing.
Michelle wants him to have the self motivation and belief.
Garry really wants to climb up to prove to himself that he can do it.
Michelle says things will get in his way? Not even a goddamn tree! Garry climbs around the tree with ease.
As Garry gets closer and closer to the top, Michelle can see the confidence and positivity increasing in Garry. He’s heading towards the future he’s always wanted, Michelle says.
Garry lets out another one of his silly “roars” when he reaches the top. Which the boom mike you can see hovering over him picks up really well, heh.
Michelle says he rocks and gives him a smooch on the cheek. Awww!
Michelle has an aside to say that Garry has realised he can do it, he’s never realised it before but he can do it!
Garry says he used to think life was over, when he was 32 years old and 206kg. He’d never find love, never make his Dad proud, never make himself proud, never have any confidence. But that’s just a memory now, he says, as he starts sniffling a little. Michelle has to wipe away a tear, too.
In an aside, Garry says Michelle is a hard woman to make cry!
Michelle tells him it doesn’t matter if she’s proud of him or not, but for the record, she is!
Garry says weight doesn’t hold you back, it’s what happens in your head that holds you back.
Next up is Kirsten who is with Shannan. He says there’s probably not anything on the island he could scare her with so instead he’s just going to try opening her mind to allowing herself to embrace her new life.
Kirsten says her life before Biggest Loser was pretty sad. She wouldn’t go anywhere where there were people she didn’t know. She wasn’t comfortable so she just sort of hid away. Shannan says she was always in control and Kirsten says she probably fears something she can’t control, so just doing something new will probably be enough for her to be a bit nervous.
Shannan has chosen paragliding for Kirsten. Which gives her butterflies in her stomach. Exciting, but a little nervewracking!
They’re going to run off a cliff and will be at the mercy of the winds!
They get harnessed up and Kirsten remembers what she was like when she came into the House, having no confidence at all.
The wind is picking up a bit and Kirsten gets more nervous, wondering if she can really do this. Shannan says they’ve finally seen her be nervous! She’s showing a little fear now!
The instructor is all “run run run!” and they run their feet off the mountain and lift off into the blue… Well, kind of white sky, the blue’s not showing up so well, guess it’s a bit misty!
Shannan and his instructor jump off a short while later.
Kirsten says you have no control over it, which she says was very liberating. Can’t do anything about it, enjoy the ride!
As they come in for landing, Kirsten says she didn’t feel 32 when she was up there, she felt 25 again!
She comes running down the beach woohoo’ing to Shannan, who was equally thrilled at having gone for a ride I think.
Kirsten says before she was afraid of being alone, never having children, never getting married, never having her Dad walk her down the aisle.
“Life’s there, I can handle it.”
Michelle and Cosi are up next. They’re on some rocks backing onto the ocean. A cliff, which Cosi thinks can’t end too good!
Michelle says Cosi’s been doing it tough in the last couple weeks. She needs him to show the mental strength today, rather than the physical strength.
They look down over the edge of the cliff and Michelle says they’ll be doing a 10 metre drop into the ocean.
“The look on his face was complete disbelief!” – Michelle says with an amused note in her voice.
Michelle didn’t think Cosi would be as scared of the jump as he was.
She takes him down to the edge of the ledge and Cosi has trouble even looking over!
She says this could mean a lot more to him than she thought!
Cosi is worried about putting one foot wrong and being history.
Meanwhile I’m not paying a lot of attention as Michelle backs herself down onto the ledge in her tight, tight shorts. Mmmmm.
He’s going to jump from the ledge. The past stays up there. The future is down there!
Cosi says the old Cosi worried about being a father at his weight. He’d pretty much written himself off as being a fat dude for life. Being in the House and losing 45kg has shown him not how sad he was, but how happy he can be. He wants to be a better Dad and a better Husband. He can’t wait to get back to normality, back with the missus, picking the kid up from school and just generally being around.
Cosi starts to break down into tears again. “It’s all that normality you miss!”
Cosi says he’s really scared of jumping off the cliff and he doesn’t want to do it. But being away from his family scares him the most. Being away from them for a couple of months is the challenge.
Cosi thanks Michelle for all she’s done for him, after she says he’s beautiful.
Michelle leaves Cosi on the ledge and heads down to the bottom of the cliff to watch him jump off into the ocean.
Cosi says that now he’s alone the fear has come back tenfold. He doesn’t like the waves and the surf. He’s petrified of seawater and the ocean!
Cosi says he has two options. He could climb back up the cliff and not do the jump. But he was also 140kg and he could have stayed there, too. He needs to make the same decision on the cliff as he made about his weight. “It stops here. I’m going this way and I’m not going to take the easy option back.”
And unlike on the ad, Cosi jumps right in first time and disappears in a flood of white foam at the bottom of the cliff. Then he bobs pack up to the surface and is picked up by a jetski.
“Cosi you rock!” – Michelle
Cosi says his son will be pumped when he sees his Dad jumping off the cliff like that, think he’s the coolest Dad!
Cosi knows he’s taking back a new and improved Cosi, Michelle says. A better father and a better husband.
Cosi says it doesn’t matter, he could jump off ten cliffs, nothing will be harder than leaving his family for a couple of months as he’s done. Doesn’t matter how hard she tells him to run, he’ll do it, nothing could be harder!
Cosi says if he’d been asked what makes it worthwhile a couple of weeks back he’d’ve said the weightloss. But now he thinks the biggest thing he’s learnt is how much he loves his family. Awww!
Tomorrow night… Sam faces sharks. Eek! “I was absolutely wetting myself!”
And Michelle gets to fly a glider! Awesome!
And Alison has to make the same leap as Cosi. Lame!
And later this week, the mega epic super challenge of DOOM will leave one contestant out of the game forever. Ooooh.
