Biggest Loser Australia 3×57: Wanna lei?
Tonight on The Biggest Loser they’re going to Hawaii!
Many challenges await them in Hawaii though, so it won’t all be hula girls and sunny beaches. They’re there to work, dagnabbit!
Would you like to know more?
Cosi says it’s sad that someone’s journey has ended, but Bryce was one of the major threats so it’s fantastic he’s gone!
Cosi flicks the lights on in the bedroom and Garry grumbles and asks what he’s doing and Cosi says it’s waking up time!
Kirsten and Michelle wander into the lounge room. Kirsten with a huge yawn.
Michelle’s upset about Bryce being gone, but she knows he’ll be at the finale looking great.
The contestants have mail. Kirsten opens it and reads… “OH MY GOD!!!”
Michelle calls them all downstairs.
Cosi doesn’t know whether it’ll be good or bad because it’s been both before!
Sam says usually when they get a letter it’s something bad. A lot of bad things happen to them!
They’re heading off to Hawaii to confront their fears and leave them behind.
“Aloha!” – Cosi
Michelle says she’s not left the country before being on the show and now she’s been to LA and now going to Hawaii!
Sam says there’ll be a bad twist because it’s The Biggest Loser!
Cosi asks Garry for some Hawaiian dancing. Garry obliges by jumping up on the coffee table, which miraculously holds his weight. Until he goes to jump off. When it promptly breaks, causing everyone to crack up laughing.
Alison’s worried because she has nothing to wear! None of her clothes fit anymore!
Alison’s scared of heights, she says to Kirsten, as they discuss their greatest fears.
Alison asks, “What’s your greatest fear?” “Death. I don’t think they’re going to kill me though, are they?”
Michelle asks Sam if he thinks he’ll be sitting on the beach and Sam says he’s read the brochure! “You wish honey, it’s not a holiday!”
Honey? Ooh.
Cosi’s thinking sharks, bungee jumping, skydiving he says to Garry. Then to us he says he’s thinking bikini girls, beaches, hawaiian pizzas. He’ll be just fine!
Cosi wants us to understand that they’ve been cooped up with each other for a good 2 months now. Yes, it’s a mansion and it’s nice, but going somewhere else has given him another boost of energy.
The fatties arrive at the airport and there’s a dude who reeeally can’t sing crooning away and a really hot chick with a coconut bra doing some dancing.
Kirsten says she’s been to Hawaii before but this will be a lot more challenging, less of a holiday!
Cosi feels happy, he feels good about being in Hawaii.
Cosi says it looks good on paper, sending them all to Hawaii. Looks good, but there’s always a twist! There’s always something and he knows they’ll wake up one morning and reality will hit. Then we get a MONTAGE of various clips of exciting things happening very quickly.
Sam says it was easy back on the White House lawn to think they could deal with whatever is thrown at them. Now they’re in Hawaii, with the potential challenges being closer, it’s more like they HOPE they can deal with whatever is thrown at them.
The House in Hawaii is white, too! Cool!
They head in the front gate and out the back where the trainers are conveniently lined up to greet them. “Hi, Michelle!” Bob.
“No Bryce? No Bryce?” – Jillian, looking a little disappointed. As is Bob. Suffer in ya jocks!
Shannan’s super happy to see all three Blue members still in the game.
Michelle is really happy to see Cosi and Garry as well.
Bob is getting a huge long hug from Bob and then a hug from mini-Jillian. Seriously, Michelle’s not that tall and she still towers over Jillian. Awww!
Jillian liked Bryce a lot but she knew he’d be gone because he did a good number last week so he was likely to do a smaller one this week. She knew he’d be gone but there was a little part of her hoping he wouldn’t be.
Shannan tells them that physically they look amazing, but mentally they’re far from done. It’ll be different people leaving the island than those who came here.
Michelle says they need to enjoy the environment, their training, nutrition and fitness. Go for it, have a good time. But it’s no holiday!
Jillian tells them they’re coming to the end of their journey in one sense, but it’s also only just beginning. This week is symbolic of that in many ways and make the most of it!
Bob says it’s the week that really changes them and that will be the biggest challenge this week, seeing what’s on the inside that needs fixing up.
Bob says in an aside that it’ll be a journey of exploration. Mental challenges and physical challenges and when you combine them it’ll be an eye opening experience for all the contestants.
As we come back from a break Sam’s in the video diary room. IN HAWAII. And says they went off for “a little walk” on the second day.
That may be a slight understatement!
Shannan says this will be a journey back to the future. Everything they’ve learnt will be reflected on today. There’s a series of gates set up, which represent a week in the House. At each gate they put the weight they lost in their backpack.
First gate is the weight they lost on Sunday. And the final gate will put them back to what they were when they came into the House.
Cosi does the sums and realises he’s lost almost 45kg, same with Sam and Garry’s done around 50kg. Ouch all round.
Alison’s actually looking forward to it a little, remembering what it was like.
Michelle says that they’ve lost a lot of weight but they don’t feel it or really see it, or she doesn’t at least.
Bob wants them not to forget the person who walked into the show. They can’t forget that. They need to remember how hard it was to carry around all that weight before and when they get to take it back off, it’s cast off for good.
Alison says she doesn’t think any of them really thought they were going to lose as much weight as they have.
Cosi says he looks at himself and thinks he’s not morbidly obese anymore, and how nice is it to not have “morbid” in front of it anymore?
Jillian says the significance of being out in the middle of nowhere in nature, it brings you closer to God. JILLIAN WORSHIPS PAGAN NATURE GODS.
Jillian picks up Michelle’s most recent loss, which was less than 3kg, but she still “struggles” to pick it up.
First gate is Week 9 and Michelle wants to have a chat about it with Cosi specifically because he really struggled in the last week. 2.7kg was “absolutely rocking”, Michelle says.
Cosi says he’d had a bit of a sookylala and got stuck into the food because he missed his family and so on. Cue more recap footage!
Michelle says that Cosi went through a whole rollercoaster of humiliation and then beating himself up over it, which she says a lot of people get on that cycle. He had a bad day but managed to turn it around within the same day.
She tells him he had one of his biggest breakdowns and one of his biggest breakthroughs in the same week.
And they’re here at a wishing well for a reason. Oh god, so lame. Michelle wants him to make a wish but also a promise, that the emotional eating is gone.
Cosi says to her, “Imagine if I made the wish, flipped this in and you disappeared!” Michelle laughs and slaps him.
Cosi says Michelle made him promise and make the wish, and he said something along those lines, but he can’t say exactly what it was or it won’t come true! Good boy!
Bob thinks the walk is very significant. The whole day and the whole hike is a metaphor for what they’ve been experiencing. To remember what it was like to have all that weight. They need to remember where they came from so they know where they’re going.
Alison says the mountain they’re hiking up looks daunting. And she’s right, it looks a hell of a lot harder than the pansy hillock the Season 2 contestants scaled!
Alison’s backpack isn’t feeling too heavy yet, she says.
Michelle says her’s is starting to feel a little heavy. It’s only up to 4kg so far though!
Sam says he can really feel the 4.5kg. Garry’s 5+kg bag has him grimacing.
Nobody is struggling yet, Michelle says. But it’s going to get tough!
“Roberto! Coming up on Week 7!” – Jillian. I wonder if she thinks Gilligan is funny yet?
Then we get to Week 7, where Michelle turned down $50,000 to stay in the game. Cue recap of Michelle’s Mum not wanting her to come home and Bob telling her she should take the money and run!
Jillian then tells us that Bob rang her right afterwards and told her he thinks they lost Michelle!
Bob and Jillian are still surprised, it seems. Though Bob says that she made a great decision.
Jillian says she’s seen contestants eat a bunch of crap for $500 in Temptation and, “It makes me want to beat them with my fist!” Heh. She says people would pay thousands for the opportunity and they spit all over it for $500.
Michelle says she can really notice the difference. It’s up to 5kg now.
Nevermind people like Garry who have had sacks with that much in one go!
Cosi gets a sack of 5.6kg and says that now they’re losing weight, or gaining!
Kirsten is starting to feel it now too. And Garry is, too!
Really scenic area they’re walking through but since they’re lumped with a bunch of weight and know they need to pick up a bunch more, they’re not getting a lot of opportunity to enjoy it!
Week 6 ignited the sportsman within Kirsten again, as it was the week of the swimming challenge. Kirsten says she felt great during that challenge and it felt like she hadn’t been away from the game at all.
She says it was a great feeling to get back in the water and thrash the guys and do all the things she used to be able to do. She’s dying to get out and get back into playing water polo. Shannan asks if she’s going to dominate the pool and Kirsten says she’s going to enforce it! “The Enforcer!” Says Shannan.
Kirsten says the weight is starting to drag her down a little bit.
Michelle then gets one of her better results, 3.2kg shoved in her pack. “That is crazy!” I think she’s really starting to feel it now!
Garry says as they started to get further into it they realised just how much weight they’ve really lost and as they regain more and more that’s when people will start to break down physically and mentally.
Shannan says they lose perspective on how much weight they’ve lost because it’s day to day survival for them ordinarily. They don’t stop to reflect on how far they’ve come.
They get to Week 5 and Bob sees a really big sandbag and thinks it must be Sam’s, Garry’s or Cosi’s. But no. It’s Michelle’s. 5.7kg. That pretty much doubles how much weight she had in there so far. She says that’s when she really felt the difference. It drops in and she almost falls on her butt.
Alison had a big Week 5 too. Cosi is up to 20kg and he says you can feel the extra pressure on your joints.
Michelle points out to him that he used to be training with that much weight on him.
Sam says there’s another 4 weeks ahead and even though it’s painful and the hill gets worse, he’s still looking forward to it, to get the weight back in the bag, see the person he was and leave him behind!
Michelle the trainer is holding Garry’s hand as they get to the next gate. This was the week where Garry ate 91 jaffas during Temptation.
“You remember the training session afterwards?” “Ohhh yeah.”
Garry tells Michelle that he needed to hear what she said during that session and it was the most inspirational session he’s had.
And on a side note, Michelle looks really pretty in her black hat.
Michelle dumps the weight in Garry’s pack, she says she tried to put it in gently but you can tell she’s LYING!
Also, “Take that Cosi. Take that!” Cosi growls and threatens her with his stick!
As they get further up the hill, the “I can feel that now” comments increase.
Cosi says it’s getting a bit less fun now! Back at the start they could say they lost 45kg, but actually putting it back on?
Sam says the next week was his best week. Shannan asks how much? Sam says 1kg!
Cosi says that in hindsight it was a good move! Sam says he planned it, you’ve got to think ahead!
For those who’ve forgotten, that was the week Sam got swapped to Red, away from the Blue Team which was basically “his” team, since he’d chosen the team way back at the start.
Sam says he’d needed that knockdown. If he’d ridden the wave to get there then that’s just luck. It’s not effort, he hadn’t worked hard. Obviously he’s worked hard since though.
Garry’s starting to struggle. Pretty badly.
Alison is struggling even more. She says she can’t believe she used to weigh that much. She can barely cope with the weight on her back. Kirsten helpfully points out that they’ve got two more weeks to go!
Alison says she couldn’t see how far she’d come. She had all the old feelings coming back. She can’t do this, can’t walk up the step, how’s she going to get up there where everyone else is, she’ll fall over! She’ll be embarassed! And she’s very sad. Every step she takes, she feels heavy, she says. Really heavy. Not just the sand, feelings too.
Before she came into the House she didn’t even look at herself in the mirror. Only her face, she never looked down. “This feels like a prison.” She says of the weight.
She doesn’t ever want to go back to how she was.
By the time she gets to gate 1 she’s feeling quite distressed. Sam’s holding onto her hand as they troop up the hill.
Bob says when you deal with someone who’s overweight, the bag isn’t sand anymore. There’ll be pain and suffering and heartache and regret. Um, okay Bob.
Michelle says when she started she didn’t like the person that she was.
Jillian has trouble even fitting the sack of sand into the bag at the final gate.
Jillian says that she wants Michelle to understand what’s keeping her fat, or she’ll just go back there.
“What else is in the bag?” Jillian asks. Michelle tries to say she doesn’t know, which Jillian describes as a textbook self defence mechanism. She says she can rip right through that!
“Sadness.” “And?” “Hatred?” Michelle says she feels hatred for herself. She says that when people say things about you and you start to believe it yourself. She was always the person getting teased, being told she was fat and ugly.
Bob and Jillian try and spin Michelle’s late arrival and luck at being the only remaining Black Team member into her being “powerful” and a “survivor”. Michelle is appreciative though, so I guess that’s the important thing.
Bob says he never does group hugs because they’re so lame, but he’s really feeling it today! Bob and Jillian whisper that they’re so proud of her and think she’s awesome inside the huddle.
Garry’s now carrying 55.1kg in his backpack as he hits the Week 1 gate.
Garry says he didn’t like the person who walked into the House. He was miserable and ungrateful with life, no happy feelings in his heart. But that person has been left behind and he’s looking forward to not seeing that person again!
Sam wonders what sort of person it was that had the 46kg under his shirt every day. He was lazy, unmotivated, wouldn’t get off the couch and go for a walk with his parents or do anything in general.
Sam says with all the extra weight back on, you waddle like you did on the first day again.
Sam says putting the weight back on as a backpack was the only way you’d get a 155kg Sam up the mountain!
Cosi’s in amazement at how much weight he has in his backpack now and that it’s no longer on his body. Cosi asks Garry how the heck they even survived.
Cosi thinks it’s a great way to tell yourself to never go back to that ever again.
Kirsten says it’s a big reminder of where they started. Flashbacks in her mind of her in a pink top with everything bulging and not looking like herself at all.
“Never again.” “Remember what that feels like.” “Never again!”
Kirsten says she needed The Biggest Loser to wake up to herself.
Alison has 6.8kg for her last sandbag. “Ohhhhhhhh.” Alison says it was a horrible feeling when it went back in. She was right back where she started.
She didn’t think it would be so hard and emotional.
They keep climbing up the rest of the mountain.
They’re pretty much all struggling. Alison is feeling very unsteady and is worried she’d fall to the side, where there’s a bit of a steep hill and trees and so on.
Michelle says this is the hardest part of the climb, both physically and mentally. She wants them all to remember how far they’ve come and everything on the path to getting there.
They finally make it to the top. Hooray!
And now it’s time to drop the backpacks.
Michelle is very grateful when the backpack drops off. “I feel free! I feel alive!”
Cosi has 45kg to drop off. Cosi eventually gets sick of waiting for Michelle to lift it off him and does a shoulder throw to fling it off him.
Cosi says he felt like he could fly, once the weight came off. It’s an amazing feeling, but weird!
Alison bursts into tears as her backpack comes off. She says all the things she used to feel came flooding back, but she knows she’s not that person anymore.
Cosi comes over and gives her a big hug. Awww!
Kirsten says it’s an amazing feeling, but weird, too!
Kirsten says there’s no going back, nobody wants to go back ever again.
Nearly 50 kilos for Sam. On his 20th birthday! Yay Sam!
Sam says it’s a good feeling when it comes off. He says he felt like he could float or even fly.
Garry gives another big yell when his weight comes off!
Michelle says it’s a watershed moment when the weight comes off them. They’ve become different people, they hold themselves differently and believe in themselves for the first time in a long time.
Tomorrow night the time has come to face their fears. Coooool.
Most of the people we see seem to be having a go, but Cosi looks like he might chicken out? Hope not!
