Biggest Loser Australia 3×36: Water Polo Challenge
Tonight is once again Challenge night on The Biggest Loser and this time it involves some new kind of basketball/water polo mashup.
Though it seems to be even more violent than either. And given how nasty water polo can get, that’s quite a statement!
Would you like to know more?
Shannan and Michelle arrive at the House, both are nervous as usual, as they know JJ has been off on his Walk. They’re hoping nothing too huge happened.
Cosi explains the whole $50,000 briefcase deal.
Michelle says money’s a big motivation. Losing weight is a big motivator, but cash on top of that? That’s got to be a big encouragement.
Cosi has been Biggest Loser twice, but he thinks backing up for a second week in a row is unlikely. Michelle thinks Cosi is there more for the long haul, to win overall. She thinks Garry is actually the best chance of winning Biggest Loser for the week!
Shannan wanders into the trophy room to check on his team. And everyone’s there again, so he’s happy.
Shannan’s wondering what the deal is with it being a “chance” to win $50,000.
He thinks the added incentive will take some energy away from his team. He wants to keep his team focused on winning the weigh in. He thinks there’ll be a lot of people very tempted and they’ll do anything to win it.
Shannan says Alison’s married with a family and she’s said they do it a bit tough.
Off to the Challenge we go!
Red Team is looking forward to it since they won the last one.
They arrive at an indoor pool. Michelle thinks maybe a swimming race?
Ajay’s there in a set of green curtains. Err, a pea soup green dress. It looks pretty horrid…
If there’s ever a challenge they need to win, this is it, Ajay says.
Today all three teams will compete in a gruelling version of water polo, Biggest Loser style!
Kirsten started water polo when she was 15. She went up through the ranks, from the junior team to the senior Australian team. She stopped in 1998 and then just started putting on the weight.
Alison’s very excited because they have Kirsten, the champion water polo player on their team, thinking that means she’ll be able to virtually sit on the sideline. I gues she didn’t watch last season when Mel the champion rower got annihilated by Marty in the rowing challenge!
Each team has one goal at the end of the pool. And at the bottom of the pool is a 5kg medicine ball that they have to put through the goal.
Cosi’s gauging the 4m depth of the pool by comparing it to Garry, who is 2m tall. So it’s 2 of Garry!
First person to retrieve the ball, swim to the goal and score wins the heat. First team to 5 heats wins the challenge. “We’re going to take the match out” Kirsten says.
The team who wins gets to choose one Black and one Red to sit out the weigh in.
Also, the Biggest Loser this week has the chance to win $50,000. But the ones who have to sit out can’t be The Biggest Loser and thus won’t be eligible to claim the money!
First they have to even up the team numbers so Black and Red have to pick someone to sit out.
Nicole has an ear infection, so she says she’ll sit out for Red.
JJ asks who can swim among them. Carrianne thinks maybe she wouldn’t be the best choice, JJ can’t swim too well either though.
Carrianne sits out though.
So both the twins are sitting out. Cosi has a laugh and says that at least they get to be together!
Kirsten steps up for Blue first, Sam says it’s because they’re hoping she’ll whoop the boys.
Bryce is chosen for Black, Michelle thinks they have it in the bag.
Garry’s first for Red, because of his height and strength.
Cosi says Kirsten started well, she’s like a well bred race horse that had been out in the paddock too long and is now trying to get herself back into shape.
Kirsten gets to the ball first, unsurprisingly, and starts swimming back while Garry and Bryce head back to defend the goals.
Kirsten makes steady progress towards the goals and she says there’s a bit of aggression being dealt out and if you happen to throw a stray elbow or knee, bad luck!
Kirsten takes a shot, Bryce ducks down to grab it and thinks he’s under Black so he comes up and does a big dunk… on the Blue team’s goal. HAHAHAHAHA.
Nicola’s left wondering if he did it on purpose.
“Wrong hole, babe!” One of the girls calls that out. Heh.
Blue: 1!
Round number two, Cosi takes on JJ and Sam.
“The Cos-dog was ready to fire up!” – Cosi
Cosi dives in and his goggles come down around his mouth. Oops!
Sam gets off to a great start and gets the ball, causing JJ and Cosi to fall back. JJ thinks Sam might be a bit puffed and maybe they could wrestle it off him then.
That’s when things start to get a bit violent!
Sam’s still got control of the ball.
Carrianne calls out to JJ that he shouldn’t be grabbing. JJ says Sam must’ve been coated in vaseline because he’s trying to bear hug him and he got sent off!
JJ gets penalised and has to sit out for 30 seconds. Sam keeps going, gives a couple of pump fakes then pots it from about 2 metres out. Nice work!
Alison didn’t think he’d be able to beat the two guys. Sam’s really happy to have beaten them, it felt pretty good he says.
Blue: 2!
Bryce is thankful the Commando isn’t there. Bryce lost, JJ got penalised.
Third round is Nicola, Michelle and Alison. Nicola says Alison is generally seen as the weakest on Blue but she’s very competitive and a very determined young woman.
Cosi says the three girls competing might get a bit bitchy. Nicola’s got a bit of bitch in her, Alison’s got a bit of bitch in her that she doesn’t like to show to the public and while he doesn’t know Michelle too well he suspects she probably does too!
Nicola has a great start and reaches the ball first but couldn’t hold her breath long enough to pick up the ball, giving Michelle a chance to grab the ball.
And I don’t think we really need the shots from right underneath Michelle as she’s kicking, thanks. Crotch shots ahoy!
It gets a bit violent towards the goal end of the pool. Alison starts getting a bit dirty and grabbing and jerking at the ball, but Michelle is hanging onto it. And eventually manages to score!
JJ goes to give Bryce a big hug but Bryce refuses and just has a manly grabbing of hands.
JJ says if Bryce had got it in the right hole they’d be 2 up now!
Blue: 2
Black: 1
Kirsten, Bryce and Garry hop in for heat 4.
Kirsten has a bad start and is behind Bryce at the start, letting him grab the ball first.
Kirsten tries to steal the ball a bunch of times as Bryce swims back down. Then they meet Garry halfway to the goal and he joins in the wrestling “fun”.
Alison thinks Kirsten’s strength overwhelmed the boys, and she thinks Kirsten may actually be stronger than Garry!
Then Kirsten rips it away from Garry and it falls to the bottom of the pool where Garry grabs it up from again. But instead of trying to get to the goal he just stands there with the ball above his head.
Then Kirsten steals it away from Garry again, some more violence ensues till Kirsten breaks free and scores!
Blue: 3
Black: 1
First to five wins, don’t forget!
Nicole thinks if Red doesn’t score then goodbye Red Team!
JJ, Cosi and Sam step up once more. Sam starts out very strong again, though Cosi manages to mostly keep up. As they get to the ball, Cosi gives up and lets Sam retrieve it. Sam sticks the ball between his legs in an attempt to swim to the goal that way, but he drops it and has to go back down to retrieve it!
It gets back to the other two guys again and then it’s right back to violence!
Sam says JJ and Cosi were playing rough and he’ll probably have a few bruises tomorrow!
Cosi finally grabs the ball off Sam and is about to take a shot when a great steal from Sam knocks it out of his hands, causing Sam to be able to retrieve it from the bottom yet again and score!
Blue: 4
Black: 1
Red: 0
Bryce thinks they’ll have trouble at the weigh in if they don’t win the Challenge.
Cosi thinks he’ll be the one sat out, just to make sure he doesn’t get a chance at the $50,000.
And here endeth the episode? For crying out loud…
More violence on Sunday night, “It became really nasty!” – Alison
The Biggest Loser will have an agonising dilemma, something to do with making the ultimate Biggest Loser sacrifice it seems.
No idea what the ultimate Biggest Loser sacrifice would be, but that’s what Ajay said!
