Season 3, Episode 19: Week 3 Weigh In – Can Red Win?

Previously on The Biggest Loser there was a challenge.

Tonight on The Biggest Loser, we find out who won! Sigh.
Also there’s a weigh in tonight, it being Sunday and all.

Can Red finally win a weigh in or will they be heading for the elimination room yet again?

Back at the challenge.
Question: How much sugar is in 1 litre of orange juice?
Debbie’s getting more and more upset at her streak of losses. Sean is struggling to hold up the huge weight.
Debbie gussed 30g. Nicole went 100g.
Answer: 110g

Ouch. Blue are in trouble now. The bag drops down and everyone winces as it hits. Sean tells everyone that he’s done, it’ll be too unsafe to continue. Sean tells the team sorry but they told him he’s nothing to be sorry about.
Alison says in a side bit that he felt rotten but it’s not his fault at all.
Sean’s pretty cut up because his team shouldn’t have to suffer because he has an injury.
Debbie’s very upset due to her poor performance but Kirsten says she doesn’t think anyone else would have done any better anyway.

Red has finally won a challenge! A proper, official, challenge!
Red ended with 50kg on their plate, Blue had 110kg.
Blue will now be penalised 3kg at the weigh in tonight.

Sean is hoping he’s lost enough weight to make up for it.

Off in America land with Black again. Jillian says that since Steven’s been gone the team has been rock solid, the dynamic is much better, they’re unified and stronger than ever without him.
Bryce says the workouts have become more efficient and with only 3 people, it’s harder to hide from the training.
Jillians working them pretty hard on the bikes, cycling along with them.
Carrianne says it was pick on Carrianne day today. She says Jillian tries to break them down mentally, but Carrianne won’t let her.
Jillian is trying to push her buttons, asking her who is stronger. “Are you stronger?” “No? Yes?” “There is no right answer!”

Jillian keeps asking and pushing her harder, trying to make her feel inadequate. Carrianne gets fed up and starts screaming back at her. “I’M STRONGER!!!”
Jillian says Carrianne finally got it. She’s not going to be ashamed of anger or frustration.
“Do you want a hug now?” “Okay!” Carrianne and Jillian hug afterwards.

Jillian asks Carrianne what her story is. Carrianne says she’s never been taught how to handle her emotions, the only way she can deal with it is to eat.
“What is so awful about just letting things suck?” Carrianne says you can’t do that, it hurts too much.
Jillian is teaching her that she doesn’t need to be an emotional eater anymore.
Carrianne reveals that her Dad died when she was a kid and nobody taught her how to deal with it. She didn’t have any support or counselling. All she had was herself, her sister and brother and they didn’t know how to deal with it.
Michelle’s in tears beside Carrianne as well.
Jillian asks her if she misses her Dad and Carrianne says yes, but don’t get her wrong, she has a great step-dad. Jillian’s having none of that, she doesn’t want to hear about things that supposedly make it so she shouldn’t be upset.
“Your Dad is dead, he is gone, he will never tuck you in, he will never give you a hug, he will never tell you it’s going to be okay, he’s not going to be there to walk you down the aisle, he will not be there when your children are born. He will never be there again. What does that mean to you?” – And yet people have been saying Michelle/Shannan are the heartless one?! Heh.

Jillian asks her what she wants and Carrianne says she wants her Dad back. Jillian tells her that she has to give herself permission to be devastated and to be jealous and angry and upset. But she’s strong enough to survive it.

All through this you can see people in the background training on more exercise gear. What’s with that?

Jillian says what they can do about her Dad dying is that they can find meaning in it. These things give you depth and compassion in ways that people who haven’t suffered like that can never understand.
Carrianne says that Jillian is teaching her that she can, no matter what she’s doing, make sure that her Dad would be proud of her.

“Are you happy?” “I’m getting there.”

Shannan and Michelle rock up for Last Chance. And neither of them say anything about not knowing what to expect as they come up the driveway! Oh my god!

Shannan is worried though, with a 3kg penalty on his team it might mean his team will lose their first weigh in.
They won the first weigh in by 20kg, then the second by 15kg. Now they’d have to win by at least 3kg.

Shannan has Kirsten doing pushups – and Kirsten’s doing them on her knuckles! Hardcore man!

Shannan says to get the most from your team you have to know every single individual.
Shannan comes up to Michael, as he’s just said in an aside that Michael has blown him away this week, and tells Michael that he’s got to commend him for being a big enough man to stop and look at himself.
Michael says, “If I don’t make the most of this opportunity, it’ll be my fault and I’ve got to step up and take that.” Midway through the sentence Shannan throws his hands in the air like a preacher man and starts miming, “Hallelujah!”
Michael says it changes day to day. A few days ago he didn’t give a shit if he went home, now he thinks it’d just be a waste if he went home now.
Shannan is sure he can get another massive number that will blow everyone away and let them know he’s a massive threat to win the show.

Shannan chats with Alison to find out how she’s going, being away from her daughter. She says it’s been difficult. Apparently she’s put a number on it, presumably her weightloss. She made a promise to her daughter that for her daughter’s birthday, she’d lose 4kg. She says she hates making a promise and not being able to follow through with it.

Debbie is next for one on one time. Shannan tells her she’s been going good, not one tear. Debbie says she feels good, sore, but driven.
In a side bit she says her heart rate has been the highest it’s been and she’s feeling good.
Sam leaving the team hit her hard, she’s a very motherly person.
Shannan says Debbie’s exuding an energy he’s not seen before.

John’s getting to do some weights and he tells Shannan he’s really enjoying the mix of exercises. Walking was getting very boring.
Shannan says it’s spurred him on and he reckons John’s weightloss will reflect the additional work he’s been able to do.

Sean’s been brave and determined in every challenge, Shannan says. He’s stepped up and done the best he could, despite the constant pain. He’s not been complaining, he’s been getting on with it and giving 100% in everything they do.
Sean says he’s dedicated to the team and Shannan, because Shannan’s gotten more out of him than he thought was possible. “I’ll never forget you mate, I swear to God.” – Sean

Shannan sits them down and says he’s excited about what he’s ignited in them all. They’re embracing the right things, looking after people and living life the right way.
Sean says he’s done them brilliantly as a trainer. They’ve really noticed this week how much difference Shannan makes as their trainer. ie; Debbie sucked!
Michael says Shannan is a massive advantage, he couldn’t be in a better place for this journey.

Shannan has his fingers crossed, he’s sure they can win their third weigh in in a row!

As they’re heading out of the gym, Shannan gives Debbie a piggyback ride. “Do you know how long it’s been since anyone’s piggybacked me?!” Heh.

Michelle wants Red Team’s eyes on the prize.
Everyone’s in their cool hoodies on the spin bikes.
Sam says Last Chance is the most important training session of the week.
“This is our best chance!” – Michelle
Sheridan’s squealing like a stuck pig, Garry starts yelling.

Cosi says everyone’s feeling really good, they picked up Sam, one of the best Blue Team members.
Michelle wants Sam to feel part of the team, a valuable member. Sam says on the inside he still feels Blue, but he’s got to commit to the Red Team. There’s a lot of pressure on him to lose a big number.
Nicola says that Sam is likely to be one of the first to be picked to go. Harsh, but it’s a game, she says.

Michelle asks them what they’re hoping to lose. Sheridan says a 6, which she says is slightly ambitious and she’d settle for a 4, but she’s asking the “big fella” for 6, with a head flick to the sky. Sheridan says she’d like to leave the house in double figures.
Garry wants to lose 1.8kg or more. That would put him under 190, which he’s struggled to get under for years.
Cosi’s hoping for 5-6kg. Michelle thinks he’ll go pretty close to it.
Nicola wants 5.4, so she’ll be an even 100. “Look out leopard print dress, is all I can say girlfriend!” – Michelle, while running her hands down her tight, tiny body…

Ahem.

Nicola says Michelle is always using the leopard print dress to motivate her, especially every time she has to eat an egg white omelette. Each mouthful she’s thinking leopard print dress, leopard print dress.
Nicole wants more than her 0.9kg from last week.
Sam is hoping for 3-4kg. He thinks he maybe hasn’t worked as hard this week as he did last. Garry says it might be a lack of confidence on Sam’s part.

Michelle says she’s proud of all of them, especially Sam, who has had a hard time coming over from another team. “Well done, Sambo!” – Cosi
Sheridan is not confident because they lost by so much last week.
“Alright see you guys, make sure to stretch, cool down, hit the showers.. cause damn!”

Red and Blue file into the weigh in room. People are nervous, especially Blue.
Sean has a stool this week to sit on, rather than stand around with weight on his foot. Michael is nervous that Sean would have dropped no weight.
Cosi is just worried Red will lose again, making them the worst team in Loser history!

Ajay’s dress has weird wrinkles and bunches under her boobs. Ugly dress!

Sam still feels weird weighing in for Red. He says as much as he’d like the Reds to win, because they deserve one, he’ll still feel bad for Blue.

Ajay tells them that getting up on the scales can be the most stressful moments of the week. So to help them settle their nerves, they’re going to give them some extra support!
Who could it beeee now?

Hey, it’s Shannan and Michelle! Yay!

Michelle says it’s the first time in Australian Biggest Loser history that the trainers have been invited to the weigh in.
Both teams are really happy to have their trainers there.

Ajay asks Michelle how she thinks Red will do and Michelle is confident. Shannan says Blue have done everything they can, so regardless of what happens on the scales they’ve changed their lives FOREVER.

Blue will be up first today.

And Michael is the first from Blue.

Michael is nervous because he hasn’t seen much difference in his body this week.

An ad break after Michael stood up led to some replayed footage after the break with a new bit. Michael flashes a sort of lame grin off in the direction of Red and we get a shot of Sheridan lamely smiling back. Ooooooooooooh?
Anyway!

Michael’s starting weight: 160.5kg
Michael’s current weight: 156.7kg
Michael’s loss: 3.8kg

Not bad, steady progress from Michael. Of course, he’s unimpressed as usual. “Whaddaya gotta do, ya know?!” He feels like he’s failed the team. “It’s rubbish!”
Sean says Michael’s been an animal in the gym, he thinks maybe they’ve hit a plateau.
Shannan says it’s a reality check, he now understands how hard he’ll have to work to drop big numbers.

Shannan grabs him before he hops back up on the steps and tells him that 3.8kg is awesome and before he starts talking it down he needs to see how everyone else went.

Next up is Kirsten.

Kirsten’s starting weight: 116kg
Kirsten’s current weight: 113.1kg
Kirsten’s loss: 2.9kg

Not bad. “That’s okay.” Kirsten says in a side bit that she’s pretty happy, she lost good numbers the first couple weeks so it’s not bad. She tells Ajay she would have liked a bit more, especially with one team member down, but she’s done everything she could.
Shannan says that if Kirsten can lose 3kg every week she’ll be a contender to be the first female Biggest Loser.

Sean’s next.

Sean’s starting weight: 155.7kg
Sean’s current weight: 152.3kg
Sean’s loss: 3.4kg

He says he’s not entirely unhappy. He was hoping to get into the 140-range, but at least he’ll definitely make it next week.
Shannan says this week was about more than numbers on the scale, it’s about the way he perceives life. And they’d had a breakthrough. Sean says he didn’t think about the future, didn’t look at the future, he didn’t have a future. Now he does. “Has it been worth everything I’ve gone through, to have a future? Damn straight.”

Debbie’s up now.

Debbie’s starting weight: 125.4kg
Debbie’s current weight: 123kg
Debbie’s loss: 2.4kg

She says it’s not the 3kg she wanted, but it’s not far off.
Michelle says she’s started to see a pattern, she thinks maybe their plateau has arrived.
Debbie is asked if she thinks she’s vulnerable and she says yes, but she thinks when it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go. She says that her and Sean and probably the most vulnerable but she’d give up everything she has to make sure Sean stays there. Awww!
Sean says he was really touched when Debbie said that, it makes him feel even more responsible, too.
Shannan says it was really nice to hear that… but she still needs to be there.

John. For his first week with more than walking.

John’s starting weight: 133.2kg
John’s current weight: 130.7kg
John’s loss: 2.5kg

It’s okay. He says it’s no point beating himself up over something that’s in the past. Time to move forward.
Shannan says it didn’t surprise him, it was consistent with the rest of the team.
John’s very satisfied, his stomach size has gone down, as has his clothing size.
Ajay asks him how he’s changing mentally.

John reveals that he was diagnosed with depression 12 months ago, the key is to push through it, he’s not going to sit there and sulk, he has to fix it.
He says he’s struggled with his self esteem and the way he’s looked for a long time. He’s now a long way ahead of where he was and being with his Team has been the most incredible journey of his life, and he’s done some stuff!
Shannan says John’s a hero. Anyone who has struggled with depression, it’s black and dark and you can’t get out of that hole. And now John pops his head out every day and has something to look forward to. The further he goes, the better it will get, too.

Alison’s turn. “Alison the pressure is now on for you to deliver some big numbers.” “Thanks!”
She’s hoping to lose 4kg as she’d promised her daughter, if you recall from earlier.

Alison’s starting weight: 112.3kg
Alison’s current weight: 110.8kg
Alison’s loss: 1.5kg

Ouch. Not real great. She looks a little upset but is coping well, as always. “You shouldn’t miss your children’s birthdays.” She says she’s going to make the most of every minute she’s there.

Blue’s total loss: 16.5kg
Minus penalty: 13.5kg
Total Percentage: 1.68%

I’d be very surprised if that’s enough. Shannan thinks it will go down to the wire, though.
Red will have to lose 13.6kg. That ought to be Cosi and Garry and they win. Michelle thinks they’ve got it.

Sam will be first. Michelle feels for him.

Sam’s starting weight: 136.7kg
Sam’s current weight: 135.7kg
Sam’s loss: 1kg

He still has a small smile on his face. Garry thinks maybe they’ve picked the wrong person.
Debbie is torn. On one hand she was disappointed for him. But as she’s technically on the other team, she was also stoked!
John thinks maybe the rest of Red will lose the same sort of weight.
Sam says he’s had a big week, he’s sure he can put in a big effort next week.
Michelle is worried the rest of the team will pull little numbers like that.

Nicole is up next.

Nicola’s starting weight: 105.4kg
Nicola’s current weight: 101.6kg
Nicola’s loss: 3.8kg

Good result, she’s proud of that. Very close to being under 100kg, which she says it would be awesome if she got there.
Michelle is well pleased with her, saying 3.8kg is fantastic.

4.8kg so far for Red.

Next up is Sheridan.

Sheridan’s starting weight: 112.7kg
Sheridan’s current weight: 107.3kg
Sheridan’s loss: 5.4kg

She’s completely shocked. Stunned. Michelle says it was beyond her wildest imaginings.
Sheridan says she’s had some amazing support this week. From some “really beautiful friends” who know who they are. Michael is mentioned by name. And there’s some smiling back and forth. Oooooooooh!
Sheridan says she’d stopped trying on the outside, stopped challenging herself. Ajay reminds her that she wanted to find love. A couple of glances from Red to Michael. Some chortling.
Michelle says there’s some sniggers and laughs and looks at Michael.
“Is there a romance going on in the House?” – Ajay.
“No. Not that I know of.” – Sheridan. Lots more ooh’ing and giggling. Nicola says they’ve all noticed that there’s something happening between the two.
Garry says they’ve not seen them hold hands or sneak kisses, but they think there’s something there.
Sheridan tells Ajay she’s there to focus on herself and she’ll see where that leads her.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh! Lovers!

Red need 3.4kg. With 3 people still to weigh in.
Shannan says it doesn’t look good for them.

Nicole’s turn now.

Nicole’s starting weight: 130.2kg
Nicole’s current weight: 124.9kg
Nicole’s loss: 5.3kg

Nicole’s stoked, as is Michelle. Ajay asks if the tide has turned for Red and Nicole says that if her calculations are right, they’ve won!
Uh, not quite yet. Cosi and Garry could both gain! Unlikely though…

Kirsten says it was more heartbreaking to lose because Shannan was right there.

Ajay reminds them that they haven’t won yet. They’ve won unless someone puts on weight!
Garry’s turn.

Garry’s starting weight: 191.7kg
Garry’s current weight: 184.4kg
Garry’s loss: 7.3kg

Garry’s very pleased. He’s well under 190kg now. He says it was a massive mental barrier. And smashing it by 6kg was really good.
Michelle says the giant has finally awoken! Look out!
Garry says last time he went to Portugal his Dad’s first words were that he’d put on weight. Ajay asks him when he’ll stop seeking his father’s approval and he says when his Dad says he’s proud of Garry.

Cosi’s last.

Cosi’s starting weight: 129.4kg
Cosi’s current weight: 122.4kg
Cosi’s loss: 7kg

Cosi’s really happy with that. Sam looks a little upset back with the rest of the Red Team.

Red total loss: 29.8kg
Total percentage: 3.7%

Blue will now be the ones to face elimination, with none of them having immunity, everyone is fair game.

Shannan says it’s the first weigh in he’s ever been to, and it’s Blue’s first loss!

Tomorrow night Blue is looking pretty bummed. John’s sick of the whinging, sick of the bitching. He says if you don’t want to be there then take a walk!

And Mr Voiceover Man says that the result will go down to the wire…

Please be Debbie, please be Debbie, please be Debbie!
