Recap #63 – Tuesday 17th April – Train The Trainers Day Comes At Last!
The fatties wander into the gym to the weigh-in room TVs having been set up – one is displaying “Train the Trainers” and the other has this rhyme:
“Today the tables will be turned,
to find out just how much you’ve learnt,
for all the training you’ve survived,
train the trainers has arrived.”
Kind of lame and learnt should have been learned for the proper rhyme, but nevertheless, they’re all excited!
What terrible training will the lovely Shannan and Michelle be forced to endure? Read on!
They get to train them for an hour in total.
Rules: There are no rules.
Munnalita says they’ve been waiting for it for a long time and Pati says they’ve been hoping for it. Marty says that he and Chris will take Shannan and break him. Pati says they’ll take Michelle and break her. And Marty says, “Remember, if there’s no spewing or crying, they’re not working hard enough!” Munnalita says they’re only going to do to them what they’ve done to the contestants… only that little bit worse.
Marty then starts orchestrating a bit of pain… sorry, did he say pain? He meant a workout.
Munnalita and Pati says it’s time to get some revenge on Michelle for all the things they’ve been put through.
Shannan and Michelle arrive and Shannan says they were ready to give them a huge workout today.
They get into the lounge where the contestants are relaxing and Munnalita asks them both how they’re feeling today. Michelle says good but more to the point, how are they all feeling? Munnalita plays her part well and says they’re feeling good and looking forward to a really hard training session today. Shannan is surprised and in disbelief, thinking she’s eaten her weeties this morning!
The contestants lead the trainers into the main gym and ask what have they heeeere and Michelle is all, “Noooooooooooooo!”
Shannan finally realises what was going on before.
Munnalita starts Michelle out on the treadmill telling her that they’re going to burn off every ounce of fat that.. isn’t really on her body! Ha!
20km/h for 2 minutes. As her warmup. And she takes it! Then they increase the incline up to the maximum, which Michelle had the two girls walking yesterday. But they have Michelle sprinting. And she takes that too, looking very strong and fit. Munnalita says it’ll tone up her backside and Pati says she can’t actually see anything moving back there anyway!
Sadly, we don’t get to see that angle.
But then they take her out on the lawn for some commando crawling, stopping every now and then for pushups, then more crawling! Munnalita says she was worried that Michelle actually wouldn’t make it back to the start a couple of times and started to feel a little sorry for her!
Michelle says she’d taught the girls a lot and they obviously intended on turning it all back on her today! She says the stuff they had her doing outside was so much harder because they’d caned her on the treadmill beforehand.
They have her doing “frog jumps” with a 10kg medicine ball in her hands, which Munnalita says they’ve done a lot of. Michelle keeps soldiering through the workout, her mental strength getting her through.
Munnalita disappears for a minute, then comes trotting back with a wheelbarrow. “Thank God they’ve lost some weight!” – Michelle in a side interview. They have her giving them wheelbarrow rides up and down the lawn for the final exercise.
Michelle says they obviously wanted to show her how much they’d learnt and she was very proud of them.
Marty gets Shannan up on the treadmill first up as a warmup. A mere 17km/h to start with. His heart rate is up to 170 after 2 minutes, he says. But it doesn’t stop there, he keeps going for about 8 minutes, with an “incline of 5” whatever that means.
Then they take him in to do some boxing style training because they know how passionate he is about that stuff.
Shannan says he wanted to prove to them that they really are fit and that they really do practice what they preach. He says that as an indication of how hard the workout was, he’d burnt about a thousand calories by the 52 minute mark. He says that’s a phenomenally hard workout.
He says they proved to him today that they’ve really learnt their stuff and can plan out an appropriate workout all by themselves. He ends with a heart rate up around 184. I’m not sure exactly what he said, he was pretty stuffed by the end!
Michelle and Shannan obviously head off after that to clean up a bit as they come back in looking much refreshed for a chat in the dining room with the Fatties. Michelle has an aside telling us that people who’re overweight have trouble sleeping because they have a lot of weight in their upper body which makes it harder to breathe. During the first week all the contestants had sleep tests done and all the Red team actually “failed”, in that they were all suffering from sleep apnoea, which Shannan tells us is where you literally stop breathing during sleep. Contestants at the start had problems for anything from 15 seconds to 82 seconds.
Marty’s longest period at the start was 52 seconds. Now, he’s down to a mere 32 seconds. He says he used to snore very loudly as well, so much so that he actually used to sleep in another room to his partner. But Shannan gives him the good news – he no longer snores! Marty says this is great because it means he can sleep with a partner and not worry he’s keeping them awake… which he says with a grin on his face.
Pati’s longest period wasn’t stated, nor her improvement, but she was told that the more weight she loses, the more it will improve.
Shannan is happy with their results, as most of them have doubled the amount of quality sleep they’re getting.
The contestants now have a mysterious letter, ooh!
The letter informs them that four people will be arriving at the house, all people who’ve been inspired by their progress on the show, and will get a chance to sit down and chat with them one on one to give them support and encouragement. Each of the people coming to the house faces similar problems in their life to what each contestant faced before coming on the show.
Munnalita says it’ll be strange to chat to someone who has been on “the other side of the mirror” and she wants to let them know that it is possible to do what Munnalita has done.
Claire, 25, is first up. She’s been battling her weight problem since she was a child. She’s hoping to be inspired and motivated by the contestants.
Cameron, 34, is also hoping for the same thing.
Aaron, 25, thinks of it as a wakeup call and, of course, inspiration.
Louise, 31, wants to hear someone else’s story, she wants to find out how other people have dealt with the problems.
First up Marty the tour guide offers them a stroll around the house. They take them up to have a look at their dream outfits.
Marty takes Cameron off for a chat first. Marty says that a lot of people have similarities in their life, but he saw a lot of similarities between himself and Cameron.
Marty says to him that they’ll often grab something pre-made, rather than making something healthy for themselves. Marty says that Cameron has lost 10-15kg already, but he hasn’t altered his diet at all. Marty lets him know that he used to be eating his entire calorie requirement in a single meal, and obviously that’s not a good idea. And he repeats the best weightloss mantra of them all. Ye olde, “Eat well, exercise and the weight will go!”
Marty takes Cameron off next for some low impact exercise. He doesn’t want to push him super hard, just a little light exercise to see where he’s at. Then he tells Cameron that it doesn’t have to be a bunch of exercise, just set himself little goals. Like getting up in the morning and doing 10 pushups, 10 squats and 10 situps. Cameron says what surprised him the most was the simplicity of what Marty had been doing to lose the weight.
Pati has Claire outside where some spin bikes are set up. She tells Claire that it sounds weird but part of it is enjoying what your body can do, your body can do a lot more than you think, a lot of it is just convincing your mind that you can keep going. Don’t allow yourself to have excuses anymore.
Claire says the training with Pati has inspired her to work a bit harder when she gets home.
Chris has Aaron in the gym, “The House of Pain”.
Chris tells him that he let himself go after school after suffering an injury at sport and he started boozing and smoking and eating too much. Aaron says he was much the same, he used to be into a bunch of sports but eventually he got into a comfort zone and it all just sort of went away and he stopped doing all the sports.
Chris says it was much like his story. Aaron says he hopes this will be the kick up the arse he needs and Chris says that that’s really all you need, that first baby step, that first kick into gear, and it just rolls on from there.
Munnalita and Louise have very similar stories – they’ve both been on IVF a bunch of times trying to fall pregnant. Louise says that she doesn’t want any excuses anymore and Munnalita says she feels the same, she used to use every excuse imaginable to get out of taking responsibility. Louise says she’s an “excuse eater”. She uses parties as excuses, she’s trained that day so she’ll have something to eat, or she’ll exercise tomorrow so she can eat today. Her excuse for the last five years has been that she’s been through hell so she can do whatever she likes. She can’t do that anymore if she wants to be a natural mum or a foster mum, she doesn’t want that excuse anymore. So she’s going to do it! Munnalita says good for her!
Munnalita is really happy with Louise’s breakthrough and thinks she got a lot out of coming there today.
As the outsourced Fatties are about to head off, Munnalita says they have presents for them all! “The Bible” – the calorie counter book the contestants all use. Plus a Biggest Loser shirt the contestants all signed with inspirational messages.
Aaron says he’s been inspired by the results he’s seen today – it’s not just a TV show!
Claire says she’s been motivated by being there today.
Louise is going to take Munnalita’s method of using her pain to motivate her.
Cameron thinks it’s amazing how far the contestants have all gotten and it should be enough to inspire everyone, get out there and do it!
Munnalita says she felt fantastic after imparting all their knowledge today and it made her feel like she hadn’t just done it for herself, but for lots of other people on the outside as well.
Tomorrow on the Biggest Loser… the final challenge! The remaining four will be searching for buried treasure… The treasure being something that will help them keep the weight off for the rest of their life? No idea what that could be, but it’s buried under a whoooole heap of sand on the beach. Lots of fun for everyone!
