Recap #56 – Monday 9th April – Week 9 Elimination.
First up tonight we get reminded of the happy happy moment when Munnalita went below the yellow line. Hooray!
But tonight it is time to vote. Who’ll vote for whom? Which friend will Pati be forced to vote against? Read on to find out!
For once nobody says anything the lounge after weigh-in. Usually there’s some muted chatter but this time, nothing at all.
“I just, I couldn’t even tork! Like, there was nothing to say?” – Munnalita
Pati feels like a stunned mullet. She says they usually have 5 minutes to chatter to people, but she doesn’t want to talk to Courtney or Munnalita about the voting, she just wants to have a chat with them in general.
Munnalita tells Pati not to worry, whichever way she votes, neither of them will hold it against her. Pati says in an aside that she kind of wishes she didn’t have a vote at all, because she doesn’t want to have to choose.
Munnalita tells Pati that she doesn’t think she needs to be there any more than Courtney. Courtney puts his hand up for more things now but he still needs to be there. Strategy? Or genuine concern for his wellbeing?
Courtney sits Chris down and says he doesn’t want any crap. Chris says he doesn’t want to vote for either of them and Courtney says enough sloppy crap because you’ve got to vote.
Chris says that Munnalita is coming second, but Courtney can run faster than him so he’s more of a threat in the challenges.
Then Courtney says to Chris that he’d prefer Chris vote for himself than Munnalita. Tactic? Or genuine concern for her?
Chris says in an aside that he thinks Courtney’s offer is admirable but it wouldn’t be a good move for Chris tactically, so it’s still a hard choice.
Courtney then says to Chris that if Munnalita goes, he will “go schitz” and he knows he can lose more weight, and he knows he can beat Chris. He’ll get his shit together and he will beat Chris.
Chris says in his aside that he’s not buying it, he’s not worried.
Munnalita tells Kimberlie that she wants to stay there. She’s worried about going back to overeating again, she was even thinking about what she was going to eat when she got home.
Kim’s aside has her saying that she wants Munnalita to do well, not in terms of the show, just to lose the weight she needs to lose in order to have a better life and so on. Munnalita has played the game hard, but Kim obviously likes her well enough all the same.
Courtney and Pati sit down next. Pati says she doesn’t want to say goodbye to either of them, it’s going to suck without both of them around!
Courtney tells her that he’d thought about how he’d vote if it had come down to his vote on the two of them and he didn’t want to think about it.
Courtney has another aside here to say that Munnalita needs to be there, she’s older and she wants to have a baby, whereas he’s really there more to fix up his body, make him look good and be healthier and go into adulthood feeling good. Munnalita’s goal is more important and he’s pretty much there, he’s already happy with how he looks and he feels like he can make it on the outside now. “If there was ever was going to be a female Biggest Loser, it should be Munnalita.” No, it should be Jules! :-(
Voting order: Chris, Pati, Kim. Obviously the producers didn’t want to risk letting Pati off the hook!
Lots of gabbing by Ajay beforehand. Chris is asked if this was the hardest decision he’s had to make and Chris confirms it was. Previous eliminations he’s always had a pretty clear-cut choice, this time it was much harder.
Pati says it was a hard choice for her too and had the two people up for elimination not been there, she wouldn’t’ve made it through. They started together and it would’ve been perfect if they could’ve finished together.
Ajay says Kim has grown closer to the contestants, so has that made things harder for her? And Kim says it was a hard decision, but it’s not making it any harder for her to be in the house, she still has to lose the weight.
Munnalita is asked if any scenario is a good one and she says she doesn’t want to see Courtney go home, but she also doesn’t want to go home.
Courtney’s mostly just worried that regardless of the outcome, he won’t see Munnalita tomorrow. They’ve discussed it before, both of them being below the yellow line. Courtney also says he’ll be happier with one decision than the other, but ultimately he’s happy because of the fourteen people who walked in through the gate on Day One, the terrible trio are the only ones left, and that was the major goal that they had.
Courtney is asked if he knows what’s going to happen and Courtney says he’s asked for everyone to vote for him, so he’s hoping that that will happen. Ajay asks him why he asked for that and he says he’s accomplished everything he needs to. “I’ve done more than I ever thought I would.”
Chris says he had a battle between his head and his heart. One is a big threat now, one has the potential to be a big threat in the future. His old choice would have been much easier, but the “New Chris” who has emerged in the last week has made his choice much harder. He almost got to the point of flipping a coin to decide. But in the end this person wanted to go with dignity and with head held high.
Courtney: 1 (Chris)
Munnalita gives him a real dirty look. Courtney says it’s okay and whispers to Munnalita, “You’re having babies!” For dinner?
Pati’s crying before she ever reveals her vote. Her vote is based on three things, first reason is that she’s seen how much this person has changed since coming into the house. They have the strength and knowledge to go into the world and knock them dead. Second reason is because the other person needs to finish working through things and she’s worried they’re not going to be able to handle it on the outside. The third reason is because she loves this person and they asked her to vote for them.
Courtney: 2 (Chris, Pati)
2 votes is a majority, which means Courtney is going home.
Courtney says it’s the decision he asked to happen and he’s happy with it and he’s glad they respected him enough to follow his wishes and not think he was quitting, because he doesn’t see it as quitting. He sees it as something he had to do, as part of his journey, because he’s been quite selfish before in his life so he felt like he needed to do something selfless. Munnalita deserves to stay. He did come in wanting to win but he’s discovered so much more on the way and he’s grateful for that.
Ajay, “What have you discovered on the way?” Courtney, “How to be a man, I guess?”
Courtney says he’s grateful to have been on the show at 21 because it’s given him the rest of his life.
Munnalita says it’s hard to find someone with so much loyalty and trust in someone. He hasn’t got a selfish bone in his body because he gave up his position and chance in the game so she could stay on, which means everything to her. He’s a true friend and she couldn’t’ve gotten so far without him. “I’m gunna really miss you?”
“You can call it alliance, but I call it friendship. And that’s what I’m going to miss.” – Pati
Pati tells Courtney not to slack off when he gets out of there, keep the momentum up. She doesn’t think he realises how much of a spark he has and how people are drawn to that.
Time for Courtney to say his goodbyes and leave the house forever.
Chris says it’s been great knowing him, he’s got a lot of strength and potential and he wants to see the results at the finale. Courtney tells him to be nice and play nice! Chris says he’ll do his best.
Pati: “I love you.” Courtney: “Love you too. Give it your best.” Pati: “We’ll do our best to stay in!”
Courtney says to Kim that he hasn’t known her a long time but she’s really grown on him. “Look after these two for me?” “I will, of course.”
Munnalita says she feels truly blessed to have met him. “Fix that head of yours, but still stay crazy alright? And you have to win this. If you don’t win this, you’ll make me unhappy!” – Courtney
“Contestants, now you are four!” Ajay reminds them all there can be only one! Biggest Loser, that is. Train hard, assume nothing, etc.
Munnalita says out in the lounge that he sacrificed himself for her and she feels like that’s the act of a true friend, he’s the best friend she’s got. She then goes on to say that they’re “the final four for now” (does she know something?) and congratulates them all.
Munnalita thinks it’s fantastic for the the final four to have three women. Pati says she’d like to win of course but if she can’t she’d be just as happy for it to be one of the other chicks.
For the first time when arriving at the house Michelle was more nervous than Shannan, since there’s only Reds left now.
When she gets inside and sees Courtney missing, her heart sinks because he’s come so far and she’s been inspired by his evolution.
Shannan says it’s the first time Michelle has had to be upset at losing someone in quite some time.
Kim tells Michelle she would have been proud of him though, because he put his hand up to be eliminated.
“Nooo wayyyy!” – Michelle’s response to Kim’s weightloss number.
Both trainers are impressed with everyone’s weightloss, especially since they were off in New Zealand all week because it shows that they know what it takes now to keep the weight off and it will be very important when they get back into the real world.
Munnalita says even though she’s learnt what to eat and how to train and so on, she still thinks about eating all the time. Not just a little bit of eating, she says she would’ve left there tonight and gone and got a pizza and probably some more. She was trying to be honest, but it worries and stuns Shannan because it shows she’s still not ready to face her “addiction” and she should know that she’s strong enough to resist now, even though it will be a constant battle due to her “addictive personality”. FOOD IS NOT HABIT FORMING.
Shannan reminds them that they’ve faced all their fears and come out the other side, take that and use it because they can do it! Michelle tells them it’s time for them to start believing in themselves because they do, just look at how much they’ve done!
Michelle takes the three girls out for training while Shannan takes Chris. Michelle is really happy that there’s three girls in the final. Michelle talks to them and says they’re probably wondering why the girls are all out training together and it’s “all about the sisterhood!” They’re forming a pop band?
Michelle says they should be proud that three of the four remaining from 10,000 applicants are women. Even though it has more to do with people playing the game and voting out the strong men everyone knows would win if it was just down to weightloss…
Michelle has a real girl power thing going on today, says Pati.
Michelle says Pati knows how to train with intensity, how to dig deep and she will fight right through if she gets her eye on the ball.
Kim is a very determined woman, she likes to have fun, she likes to have some fun in training, but when the going gets tough she knows how to hang on.
Michelle is very confident that a woman will be the biggest loser – three in four is a pretty good chance, right? Not really, Michelle. Chris is still The Biggest Loser so far!
Shannan says when he first met Chris he knew that physically and mentally he was capable but there was a hole in his spirit. His goal is to fix that hole. He knew it wouldn’t be easy to get through to him. He figured he’d have to get him physically exhausted before he’d open up because when he’s exhausted, there’s no energy left to fight.
Shannan has him doing “Russian get ups” – holding a dumbbell in one hand, straight up, and standing up, then lying down, over and over. Shannan chose it because Chris’ background is Russian, his Mum is Russian apparently.
Shannan uses that as an icebreaker into Chris’ emotional side.
Chris is a bit of a momma’s boy apparently. He’s doing it partly for her but he needs to remember that ultimately he’s there for his own good.
Apparently it’s been breaking his Mum’s heart because he was apparently such a good looking boy when he was younger. How many Mums think their sons are butt ugly, really?
Chris tells Shannan that the money is a factor for him because it’s not all going to him, his family has had some hard times lately and “it’s nothing to go into” but he’d really like to take his family for a holiday, probably take his Mum to Russia because she’s never been. A church group is going later in the year or something though and she missed out on the last trip due to her cancer and a trip to hospital because of it. Shannan obviously hadn’t heard before that Chris’ Mum has cancer because he has to ask and Chris says she’s actually had it for eight years! Poor lady.
When he found out that the cancer had gotten worse he was on a train station in London and he had to try not to cry. Punched some walls on the way out and such.
Chris says that his Mum has been a big motivation, any time he’s feeling a bit tired he just gives himself a kick and gets back to it.
Chris says he hadn’t said anything before because he doesn’t like sob stories and so on. Shannan tells him it’s not weakness, such things don’t make him a weak person. He has got a sob story and it’s part of him, don’t pretend he doesn’t, because people will see cracks in him then.
Chris says he wants to try and enjoy the last couple of weeks, absorb as much as he can, because at the start he was too focused on winning the game.
Shannan says he’s made so much progress and done so well, but it’s only now he’s started to like him! Chris used to annoy the shit out of him! But he can see a light coming on inside Chris at last.
Courtney arrives home to a few select friends and family(?).
2 months on… He’s almost buff! Basically just a slightly solid guy. You can see muscles and all.
He’s been training with Georgie, his trainer, on the beach and doing weights in the gym.
His attitude to food has changed a lot, he’s eating a lot of steak and chicken, eating it with salad and vegetables and wholemeal bread.
Before the show he was an XXL, now he’s down to an M.
Looking at his horrible skunk hairdo from his audition video and how fat he was, he’s improved leaps and bounds.
He says he enjoys going out now, his self esteem is a lot higher and he’s a lot happier than he was before.
Since appearing on the show he’s lost 42kg.
The final four think the end is within reach. Tomorrow night there’ll be a special 90 minute episode and… “The eliminated have returned!”
All the eliminated contestants (including Courtney who only just went home!) emerge from inside the house after the four have been out running and Ajay has greeted them on the driveway. It seems like they’re doing the whole, “One eliminated contestant gets to return” shtick from the first season. Because, you know, they haven’t dicked around with the competition enough yet? Sigh.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
Note: I don’t expect Sarah, Jules or Sam to be there, particularly Sarah. Jules and Sam are included because I expect some people would love to see them again and I believe enough time has elapsed that they may be healthy enough to return. Sarah is included purely for completeness – I suspect no one wants to see her returned to the game but it would be wrong to leave her off. :-)
Also note that due to the imminent return of one player, the “Who do you want to boot out next” poll won’t be up immediately. I forgot to change it at all last week but I promise I’ll remember to update it as soon as we know who returns. :-)
Annnnd one more late note: When I update the poll tomorrow/Wednesday I’ll also reset the “Favourite Trainer” poll to give everyone a chance to vote again now that we’ve gotten to know both trainers a little better.
