Recap #50 – Monday 2nd April – Week 8 Elimination and The Big Damn Field Trip

At the top of the show we see another replay of last night’s shock result from Marty – including the undisguised grin on Munnalita’s face while everyone else is gasping. Charming!

But who will be voted out? Read on!

I think Damien ought to consider himself lucky since he’s the smallest “loser” for the week, so a hung vote would mean he’d be going home. Fortunately there’s 5 votes, making a hung vote impossible!

Damien says the mood was pretty sombre. He wouldn’t’ve been happy if he’d even just lost 2.4kg, let alone gained.
Marty just keeps walking past everyone in the lounge and goes to curl up under the kitchen bench for a bit of a cry, which has everyone feeling a bit sorry for him.

Except Chris, who wonders why a grown man is off crying. “What’s wrong with him?”
Uh, maybe it’s something to do with being on a weightloss show, not losing any weight and being the biggest threat to everyone else’s position in the house.
Munnalita then asks Courtney why Marty’s crying and she wonders if it’s genuine or if he’s a grab for a sympathy vote. Courtney says in his aside that Marty is pretty good at that sort of thing. He does say it’s a bit of a hard decision, he’d rather it have been Chris or Kimberlie under the line with Damo because that would have made it much easier.

Everyone else heads off out of the lounge at this point, though Marty stays under his bench. So Chris tries to do “the right thing” and has a chat with him, asking Marty if there’s anything Marty wanted to say before Chris made up his mind.
Marty tells him that he knows he’s Chris’ biggest threat and that Chris is there to play the game so obviously Chris will be voting for Marty.
Chris then tries to find a positive angle for Marty and tells him that at least now he has a better shot at the $50,000? “Mate would you just stop thinking about the money? Fuck! Sometimes you’re an idiot.” – Marty
“Alright mate, you’re a knob, whatever.” – Chris in a later interview. He also says that Marty could’ve taken it like a man because he hadn’t actually been voted off yet, or he could’ve cried like a little girl, and he went for option B. Which I think removes any chance of Chris getting any of option c: hot hot skinny sex from girls who like reality tv stars?

Munnalita, Pati and Courtney sit down for a chat. They figure it doesn’t matter who Kim and Chris vote for since between the three of them, they hold the balance of power anyway.
Courtney says that Marty seems to be genuinely cut up about everything and in an aside says that he’d feel guilty voting for Marty because in the previous elimination Marty was responsible for saving Courtney himself, or Munnalita. He says he’d feel like a backstabbing bastard, but it is a game.
Damien is also a huge threat because he has so much weight to lose. Courtney figures he could lose maybe 35-40% in total, whereas Damien stands to lose 50-60%.

Damien’s having a chat with Kim and he says he thinks he might be in trouble because the rift between the terrible trio and Marty has been healed since he’s come back and they might see him as a bigger threat overall.
He tells Kim that he’s never tried to say him staying is any more important than anyone else or anything like that.
In a side bit he says he thinks he needs to stay more than Marty. Not that he deserves to, just needs to. He needs the controlled environment to lose weight as it’ll be easier than on the outside.

Ajay asks Damien if he could go back in time, would he change anything? And Damien says he doesn’t know what else he could’ve done. He exercised every day and had a calorie controlled diet. He also reiterates the needing to be there, not deserving thing.
Marty has no regrets about the week. He says that maybe the immunity made him a bit complacent and his body picked up on that. Or maybe it’s muscle? He wouldn’t mind that. (Cue a *fuuuuurious* look from Munnalita.)

Chris says when he entered the house he saw the person as a huge competitor and as time went on he also saw that if the shoe was on the other foot, this person would have voted him out. (Cue shot of Marty grinning and nodding!) He says there was an agreement reached between this person and within a couple of days that agreement was breached, so he has no hesitation in voting for…
Marty: 1 (Chris)

Courtney says his vote is based on fear. If this person stays in the house then they will eventually beat him and vote him out. This person is a very motivated and determined person. (Cue shot of Marty nodding a little.) Also he thinks that this person may have a vendetta against him. He has to do what he has to do to stay there and get as far as he can, so he’s voted for…
Marty: 2 (Chris, Courtney)

One more vote and Marty will be going home. And the next person to vote is Munnalita!

Munnalita says both men deserve to be there. Her vote is purely strategic. The person she voted for is competitive, there to win the game and have a good chance of winning. She also feels that due to her past relationship with this person she might not be able to trust them as much as she needs to in the future. So she has voted for.

Marty!

For the second time his fellow contestants have decided that he will not be The Biggest Loser, Ajay says.
He says to be looked upon as a threat means he must be doing something right (small nod from Courtney).
Ajay asks what Chris meant about the word breaking and Marty says that Chris approached him very early on with talk of an alliance going ahead and Marty says he did not give his word, he said, “Yeah, that sounds good” but he never said he gave his word because his word is… his word! Tricky bugger!
Chris says he’d taken it to be Marty’s word and Marty broke it. He’s gone a bit red in the face.

Damien feels very lucky to be staying in the house for yet another week when he’s been below the yellow line for three weeks in a row.
Kim is asked if she thinks he’s a fierce competitor and all she’s seen him do is excel. He’s an honest, truthful man who says it how it is. And she says that the money might come along but she knows that he’s in it to lose weight. Is there another love fest going on?

Perhaps not. Damien seconds everything Kim says and that could get a bit awkward!

Damien says Marty should take it as a huge compliment that everyone sees him as such a threat. Marty tears up a bit and thanks everyone for their kind words.

Marty says Damien has been such an inspiration to him, he can beat them all, and Marty knows he can do it.
Marty says he and Kim have chatted a lot over the last couple of days and they’re the same, it’s not about the money for them, it’s about the weight.

Then it’s time to go. Chris says to Marty that he hopes he gets where he wants to go and offers to have a beer with him on the outside. Uh, hope that’s a light one Chris!
Courtney gets up and Marty says “Give us a cuddle!” And goes on to say it’s good to see he’s changed, he’s turned into a top bloke!
“Hey little fella, give us a cuddle!” – Marty to Damien. Ha!

Ajay tells them that in the next few days they’re going to find out how much further they can go. They’re going to go on a massive journey to new places, physically and mentally. They’re going to face their deepest darkest fears. When they leave the elimination room they need to prepare for a trip and it will not be a holiday. Shannan and Michelle are waiting for them “in paradise”.

Normally when everyone leaves the elimination room, Munnalita says, everyone is kind of sad. But they’re all looking forward to the trip. Courtney says it wasn’t sad because Marty had made it joyful.
Sitting down in the lounge he points out that they use words to mean other things in this house. Side interview he says he doesn’t know where they’re going, Tahiti, Vanuatu, The Commando’s House?
Everyone’s a bit afraid of what the deepest darkest fears stuff will involve.
Munnalita is excited, looking forward challenging herself.

Damien suggests that maybe they’re going swimming with sharks? You could lose a limb and blitz the next weigh-in!

And in the morning they pack instead of after leaving the elimination room like Ajay told them to. Tsk tsk!
Munnalita is hoping for a luxurious resort, sitting by the pool, shopping and so on. “Obviously that isn’t what’s going to be happening!”
She also thinks maybe they’re going to put spiders all over their faces and Pati suggests maybe they’ll have to eat one?
Munnalita is afraid of having to stand on the edge of a building and jumping? Kim is afraid of the dark, the water, the feeling of being trapped, spiders, sharks, snakes, caves… Damien just sort of shrugs at her!
Pati is afraid of the open water. She doesn’t know what’s underneath her, can’t see anything, etc.
Damien’s mostly worried about having to climb Mount Everest or something.
Courtney’s a bit scared of heights. Even with a harness he won’t be happy about it!

They’re all looking forward to it a bit more once they get going and are curious to see what’s been planned for them.

They arrive at Sydney International. Pati’s a bit excited by that because it means they’re going overseas and she hasn’t been overseas since she was 10!
They get inside and look at the travel board and try to work out where they might be going.
They eventually spot the Biggest Loser signs and start following them.
Eventually they get to an Air New Zealand check-in desk. Hooray, they’re going to go visit the hobbits!

Chris hasn’t been since he was 3 or 4, Munnalita has never been.

As it turns out, they’re going to “Queenstown”. Courtney realises that that’s the place they do all the extreme sports!

Damien has a look out the windows on the way in and sees a bunch of mountains, which he tells us again he doesn’t want to be climbing!

They get off the plane and have a look around and see lots of very picturesque views. And Kim says you know it’s a small town when you get out onto the tarmac.
They get into cars and just start driving way off into the mountains. “Nothing changes. We’re in another country and we’re still kept in the dark!”

The Kiwi house is called “Cedar House” and it’s perched on a cliff face.
Of course at this point Shannan and Michelle have no idea which contestants have made it to NZ.

While Bob and Jillian have been looking after the contestants, Shannan and Michelle have been roadtesting all the bits and bobs.
Everyone is really happy to see their trainers again and the trainers are stoked to see their makeovers which, of course, they’ve not seen yet.

The contestants then explain what happened at the elimination and the fate of Marty.

But it’s all about the ones who did make it and the rest of their life from now on.
Damien has to explain to the trainers that he’s gained weight. Shannan tells him that the body is not a machine, it’s not logical, it’s a glitch in the matrix, don’t worry about it, we’ll get back on track this week!
Which is followed by Chris revealing his 7kg loss. Ugh!
“Chris you are a weightlosing machine!” – Shannan

Michelle tells them that they may’ve had setbacks in their past lives and in the past that may’ve been enough to make them quit. But this week is about getting into their heads and making sure that sort of thing doesn’t happen anymore. Shannan says they want to change their spirit so it doesn’t happen again, ever.
Shannan says they’ve gotten into what set people off on their weightgain before and for some of them they’ve already gotten into some of that before but it’s time for everyone to get into it.

Pati thinks that that is likely to be very hard and scary because there’s things she doesn’t feel comfortable about. She can’t get the most out of the journey if she can’t do it, though, and she says as much.

Shannan tells them all that they’re going to be inspirations to everyone for the rest of their lives and so on.

The two trainers have been searching for a different challenge for each of them to best suit their individual needs. Chris is a bit worried because he knows Shannan doesn’t do anything by halves so it’s going to be hardcore!

Shannan says they can take control of their lives now and be afraid of nothing!

They all head in to have a look around the “new” house, which is an “interesting” mix of old style new fittings and new style new fittings. Everyone seems really impressed but it all looks awfully poorly designed to me!
I guess they didn’t want anything to distract from the views outside, which are indeed spectacular. Though they would, of course, be just as spectacular if you, I don’t know, went outside!

Damien tells Shannan as soon as he sees him that he needs a chat so they have a sit down. Damien’s baffled as to how he could suddenly have a gain instead of his usual steady losses.
Damien tells Shannan all about the winning of the challenge and the dinner and the night out with his girlfriend and so on. He says there was rice with the dinner and Shannan says he bets Damien felt bloated afterwards and he did, and he’d said as much to the other guys. He’d also had a craving for red meat and even though he’d cut the fat off from the edges, Shannan says he still ought to stay away from it because the fat is “marbled” into it. It’s sneaky fat you can’t see!
Shannan says in his aside you need consistency for weightloss. The contestants can’t forget about training yet, they can’t start having rice or missing training and so on. He points out to Damien that if you miss an hour each day, that’s 7 hours training in total missed.
Damien’s fearful of heading back into the real world. He’s afraid he’s going to die.

This week, the Fatties go for a big hike on a mountainous ridge thingy. And jump into a freezing cold river. And go rock climbing. And bungee jumping! And some weird flying contraption thing? And a mountain bike/running/canoeing triathlon race? Looks like a week full of fun!
