Recap #38 – Monday 19th March – Week 6 Elimination

Well, another elimination night has rolled around, and it stands to be the most heartbreaking of all. Who will be the pair to go?

Read on to find out!

The shock on Munnalita’s face during the replay of last night’s events seems a bit… fake. I don’t know if it was re-recorded or she’d done something naughty or she’s just a bogan. Can’t be sure!

Munnalita feels fantastic on the way out, though she also said she feels sad because she’s going to have to vote someone out.
Damien’s sad because either way, he’s going to be losing Mel.

Pati and Marty, Munnalita and Courtney head outside for a chat. Courtney says he’ll be voting for Greg and Mel, simply because Damien needs to stay.
Marty wants Greg to stay because he’s his mate.
Munnalita wants to vote out Greg and Mel, because Greg will just keep on winning challenges… apparently she doesn’t count the last one, where Damien actually outdid Greg, on a strength and determination challenge, no less!
Courtney points out that the smart thing to do would probably be to vote Damien out, but when you play with him, that’s his life. Presumably a reference to the fact that Damien is so much heavier than anyone else left in the house and is the most in danger of actually dying from it some time soon.

Courtney then wants to take Pati aside for a one on one chat.
Pati’s not sure, because Greg and Mel are such a strong team.
Courtney says in his aside that his all around smarter choice would be Greg and Mel, because they’re so strong, and also because after the duo phase Greg and Marty are likely to team up, and Marty is his “arch-nemesis”!
Pati has an agreement with Greg to not vote for him, but she wants to have a chat with Greg first, to see what he has to say.

Mel and Damien have a chat, Mel says to him that she thinks he’ll still be there after the elimination. Damien thinks she will be! Mel says if she has her way, he will. Mel says she’s only about 13kg away from her goal. Damien says he’s only about 75…
Mel does still want to be there, but Damien really needs it a lot more than she does. Obviously she doesn’t want to go home, no one does.

Mel says to Pati and Marty that she’s happy to go, but unfortunately it puts Greg in it as well, which Greg says in his aside annoyed him a little.

Greg says to Pati that he doesn’t want to go and he’s not ready to go.
Pati says her heart lies with both Greg and Damien. She’s really hesitant to vote either out.
He ends up putting it back on her by saying that he does want to stay, but it’s up to her to make her own decision.

Courtney’s facing a hard decision because Mel has been on his team and he’s gotten to know her and so on.

Damien confirms that in the event of a hung vote the duo with the lowest percentage weightloss will be going home. He’s concerned, because there’s a Red team member on the other duo, and all the people voting are Red team members.
It’s Greg though, Damien, so I wouldn’t think that’ll matter much.

Pati thinks it’s all coming down to her vote again and she’s not real happy about it, because the same thing happened last week!

Everyone files into the elimination chamber and no one looks at all happy to be there, even the ones who know they’re quite safe.
Greg is asked if he thinks he’s a threat, and he says of course he is! He’s very strong, very fast, a lot better endurance than all of them. He’s also asked if the former Red team will save him. All he says is that he has the word of two people on the team, but not the other two.
Mel gets asked if being partnered with someone so strong is a liability? And she says yes, they might be a bit of a target.
Damien’s asked if he’s feeling nervous, says he wants to stay and he’s still heavier than Marty was when he started.
Laura mentions her Dad, again. Through tears. Oh man, she was going so well! Ajay asks him why her Dad needs the help, Laura says because he’s unwell, unhealthy, she wants to go home and basically save his life.

Courtney says that in each of the duos he has a friend, so whichever way it goes, he’s voting out a friend. He actually starts to tear up a bit at this point, saying it was a hard decision. He feels like the people he’s voting for are the best equipped for dealing with it on the outside world.
Greg & Mel: 1 (Courtney)

Munnalita says she can’t believe it’s come time to vote out two beautiful people. She thinks one of the people in particular has a lot of strength and would be a threat within the game.
Greg & Mel: 2 (Courtney, Munnalita)

One more vote and they’re going home. But Marty’s up next!
Marty says his decision was hard, all 4 people have inspired him in the game. He has nice words to say about everyone. Says Greg is a true gentleman and then starts to break down into tears. Surely he hasn’t voted for Greg?! He says Greg is a man of his word and so is Marty, so he’s not going back on his word to Greg.
Greg & Mel: 2 (Courtney, Munnalita)
Damien & Laura: 1 (Marty)

If Pati also votes for Damien and Laura, then it will be a hung vote, which will mean Damien and Laura are gone.

Pati says it was a tough decision and she had to follow her heart. She says one couple needs to be here and they’d struggle on the outside, so they really need to stay and that’s the only reason she’s voting… For Greg and Mel.
Greg & Mel: 3 (Courtney, Munnalita, Pati)
Damien & Laura: 1 (Marty)

Damien starts crying at that point, as does Mel. Marty’s crushed, got his head in his hands.

Greg says he used to feel like he’d get up and not want to get up and just want to go back to sleep. He knew he looked fat, unhealthy, he knew when his wife looked at him she was disgusted, he knew when his kids grew up they’d be disgusted with him, he could tell when his parents looked at him that a little piece of them died. But that’s not going to happen anymore! He feels invincible, he loves what he’s become, wants to share it with the world. Ajay asks him if it hurts to be leaving and he says not hurt, he has a beautiful family waiting for him and he can’t wait to see them. He says his family has been what’s got him through the whole experience.

Mel says she’s going to miss everyone. The other day they were sitting around the kitchen and thinking when they get home they’ll be looking around wondering where’s Courtney, where’s Munnalita, where’s Damien’s singing?
Damien says she’s a beautiful, intelligent, focused, driven woman. “You have fought to let me stay in the game, which I don’t feel I deserve. You don’t owe me anything. You deserve this as much as anyone.”

Greg is asked if he thinks it’s the right decision, and he doesn’t think it was, but he goes on to say that there’s none of this Greg and Mel are closer to their goals or whatever, Damien needs to be there. He needs to stay in the house.

Damien says he feels like they’ve had a very narrow escape, he appreciates being there even more than before.

Hugs all around!
Courtney says sorry to Greg, Greg asks him what he’s sorry for!

The game is going to be turned on its head very soon, according to Ajay. Joy.

After the elimination no one wants to talk much, everyone is pretty somber.
Pati’s not happy about having to do something for her survival in the game. Marty’s even less happy because she’s now gone back on her word yet again, so basically he has no trust in her whatsoever. Which is probably going to do wonders for their duo!
Courtney’s fairly happy because it’s good for him, Munnalita’s always had the number one position in mind so she’s only helped by this.
Marty’s finding it very hard to be around any Red team members because of their lying, what they’ve done to him, what they’ve done to Greg. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him getting some training tips from Shannan this week?

Shannan’s shattered because Greg and Mel were so strong and determind, but particularly for Mel. Ooooh!
Michelle gives Marty a big hug for his 7.6, Pati gets a “Yahhhhhhhh!” from Michelle for her number.
Laura’s a bit emotional again today.
Michelle and Shannan are blown away by Munnalita’s 9kg. Michelle gives her a big tacklehug.

Shannan says they’ve obviously thrown Damien a bit of a lifeline, which has overwhelmed him. He’s going to train his ass off this week!

But now, they’re getting out of the house and going to the beach. “There’s no tears at the beach!” – Michelle
They’d already planned this excursion because they figured whoever left there’d probably be a lot of sadsacks in the house.

Michelle takes her four remaining Reds and she wants to congratulate them and remind them how amazing it is to do that.

Shannan takes Damien and Laura aside and says they don’t deserve to go down to the beach yet because their numbers weren’t good enough.
So he finds some stairs for them to run up. “Walking’s not good enough!”
He follows them up, pushing Damien in the back all the way. He’s starting to get a bit pissed off. Apparently he stopped for a drink, stopped for a pee, but Shannan’s not impressed, he wants continuous up and down the stairs, over and over.
Shannan keeps pushing and prodding verbally. And Shannan says at some point Damien just took a second to reflect on the promises he made, what he owes to Mel, etc. And then he got back up and pushed back up the hill some more.
Meanwhile Laura is going up and down the stairs like a maniac, all by herself!

Eventually they stop doing that and head down to the beach where they decide to have a race, but not just any race, a good old fashioned Aussie beach flag race. One of those where you run down to pick up a flag off the beach.
To even it up a bit, they put Marty and Courtney a length behind everyone else.
There’s five flags to start, six people, whoever doesn’t get a flag, loses and is out of the next race. Damien lags well behind everyone but Pati is caught in the crush with everyone else, misses out on the flags most people were going for and then sort of stands around for a second… before realising there’s one flag left, just in time for Damien to swoop on it!
Damien’s second out though.
Laura’s out third.
Marty’s third out.
Shannan’s really impressed by Munnalita making it to the final.
Munnalita keeps edging towards him during the run and while Courtney manages to pull in front, a dive from Munnalita catches the flag just ahead of him!

Munnalita thinks she can be the biggest loser overall if she gets to the final four. Yeah, right…

Mel gets home to a miniparty with her family.
2 months on… She’s looking awesome! Still carrying a bit of chubbiness around the tops of her thighs, but her upper body is almost skinny. Size 18 before the show, nudging 20… Now a size 12!
She’s stil finding it a bit weird to go to the beach and put on a bikini. But she went for a picnic lunch with a couple of her friends and she just had a sandwich with some salad, light ham and some tuna too. I gather that’s a departure from what she would have had in the bad old days but she doesn’t elaborate.
One of her friends says that seeing her exercising a bunch has made him take up running again!
She says going on the show was a lifechanging experience and she hopes she’s inspired some other people to do the same.
Since first appearing on the show Mel has lost 25kg.

Greg gets home next, just to his family. And they have a sweet big screen TV mounted on the wall!
Then they head out into the backyard… To the rest of the party, a lot of people!
Then we see where he’s at 2 months on… He’s at the gym, it looks like. All we can see at first is a rippling bicep, holy crap!
Then the shot pans out a bit… and he’s shaved his beard! He looks so much different, it’s amazing. Still has a bogan haircut though.
He’s down to XL or L clothes, instead of XXXL.
His audition tape has him without a beard too. His face looks a lot rounder there, the after picture is an amazing difference.
He still works in his fish & chip shop and says he used to eat the chips, but no more!
His Dad is happy now when he sees his son.
His wife says he’s a completely different person, has a completely new lease on life.
And he puts it all down to appearing on the show!
Since first appearing on the show Greg has lost 42.8kg.

Tomorrow night, Ajay says that what is about to occur has never happened before (ever? Or just on Australian TBL again?) and it will unfold in a special 90 minute episode!
On the day they arrived in the house, a secret event also took place. Lots of talk of “they can’t do this to us now!” and so on. And it’s all about “The Outsiders” who will arrive at the house, walking in through the gates at the very end of the teaser. One man, one woman, as you’d expect. Oooh! More unfairness!
