Recap #37 – Sunday 18th March – Week 6 Weigh-in of Woe!

Another Sunday, another weigh-in. This one has been made extra spicy by the addition of a weight bonus and a weight penalty. Or extra annoying, by the addition of a weight bonus and a weight penalty. Depends on your view when it comes to weight bonuses and penalties!

Will the bonus be a factor in the weigh-in? Will the penalty matter? Is 14 Mars Bars acceptable if you lose the weigh-in?

Find out after the break!

Everyone’s dead when the trainers arrive today. Not sure why the women are dead, they didn’t do anything but hang on the harness while the men did the work! As men usually do!
Nevertheless they tell their trainers what happened.
Shannan is really impressed by the challenge, saying it’s a test of toughness, not just fitness.
Mel confirms that the winners got a 1kg bonus for the weigh-in and the losers got a 1kg penalty.

So who won? Damien and Laura. Cue big hugs from Shannan again.
“And you guys came in.. up the rear.” – Michelle. HAHAHAHAHAHA up the rear.
Michelle says it must’ve been hard so she can kind of understand it, doing it for an hour twenty. Damien says he sent Laura up the rope 117 times, Mel and Greg did 115 and Marty and Pati did 100.
And Courtney and Munnalita? Eighteen. The trainers are a bit shocked. Shannan asks what did them in, was it the hands? Courtney says no, all of it!
Munnalita makes excuses for them some more and says they stopped and went for a run instead to make up for the penalty, etc.

Michelle takes Courtney and Munnalita aside afterwards because she could see how upset they were.
Munnalita’s worried she won’t lose enough weight this week to stay there, Courtney says she’s worried she won’t be able to continue it on the outside.
Munnalita whines some more about how she usually just starts a diet and exercise and sticks to it for a while, then does it sort of on and off. She starts crying because she knows how hard it’s going to be, how much it’s going to hurt, but she can’t put the weight back on this time!
Michelle reminds her about her wanting children again.
Courtney says he thinks Munnalita is one of the strongest women he’s ever met and she’s got a better chance of making it on the outside.

Michelle asks her to think about what she can do about it, who does she have for support? “Courtney.” “And who else?” “Myself.” “And who else?” “………..” Courtney butts in here and says, “She’s sitting in front of you!” Crikey!
Michelle’s going to do everything in her power to keep them there and in the game. Shame, Michelle, shame!

Now we have a special catch-up with Kelly. Even though we already caught up not long ago when she was eliminated?
She’s looking a lot better now, still obviously chubby, but nothing like what she was.

Back at the house, Damien’s got his beautiful new BBQ out on the lawn to cook lunch for everyone including the trainers, which is an awesome idea in my opinion. Nothing like a bit of a sausage sizzle to get people to relax and have a chat?
Shannan says the BBQ has the potential to be healthy or a “heart attack on a plate” so he asks them what the BBQ would have had in the old days. Sausages, hamburgers, schnitzels, etc.
But today? They’ve got some nice looking shishkebabs… Conveniently enough made from a recipe in the Biggest Loser diet and exercise book (which is presumably “In All Good Bookstores” as of today?) Shannan makes sure they’ve cut the fat off and they say yes, and it’s got a nice little marinade on it and so on.
Courtney says one of the most important things he’s learnt in the house is that to lose weight you don’t have to have a lettuce leaf, you can have steak or chicken.

Shannan lets us know that 100% fat free salad dressing does have a bit of sugar in it, but it’s only about 40 calories a serving.
Then Michelle tells all the Fatties that the first thing listed on an ingredients list is actually the largest component of the food. I thought that was common knowledge?
Munnalita is very impressed by that though.
Shannan says the girls can have about 100g of meat stuff, and “as much salad as you want!” He says to fill yourself up on salad. I just wish I liked salad…
Mel says she’s learnt that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring, just fresh herbs and stuff for flavour. Also, take your time when eating, if you eat too fast you’ll tend to eat too much.
Shannan says that once you break the habit, the amount he has on his plate is “a feast” and he thanks them all for the great meal they’ve put on for him and Mish!
He’s hoping that now when they go home and do go to a BBQ, they’ve learnt to say no to the unhealthy bits, even though it’s very, very hard.

Mel’s off in the spin room, Shannan comes in to find out what’s going on with her foot, and she tells him that she’s got a stress fracture in her heel bone. He says it’s quite unusual, usually it’s in the toes or other small bones.
Shannan’s a bit worried because it’ll impact her weightloss which is a problem because of the duos stage as well.
She was teased a lot in school apparently, because of being a redhead (CARROTS!) and being tall.
Shannan’s sure she can lose plenty of weight, even with the injury, just by varying the training regimen a bit.

And now a special catchup with Michael!
As we saw before, Michael looks great, especially compared to how he looked in his audition video. He’s still obviously a little chubby, but it’s sitting on his frame a lot better now, he just looks like a healthy bloke now.

Michelle has the remnants of her Red team doing Last Chance out on the lawn. Pati seems to be slacking off a bit and Marty’s 4 days behind on training.
Munnalita and Courtney are doing it hard, but they pretty much have to, with the 1kg penalty. Maybe this is the kick in the pants they both need? Should get them a 1kg penalty every week?
Courtney’s confident they’ve done enough to lose weight, but possibly not enough to lose enough to overcome the weight penalty.

Shannan’s got his Blues in the Gym.
Damien, when he’s focussed, is unstoppable, according to Shannan. And New Laura was in the Gym too!
Apparently Greg has told Mel that whatever it takes to make up the difference due to her injury, he’ll do it. He ran at 20km/h on the treadmill and Mel is doing her best with situps and weights and so on.
Mel’s hoping that if they are below the line that it’s not Laura and Damien below the line with them, because that would be a real shame.

In the weigh-in room, Mel’s having a bit of a sit down on a stool the lucky bugger!

Ajay reminds everyone it’s weigh-in time, reminds everyone they’re in duos, reminds everyone that a duo will go home, reminds everyone about the yellow line, reminds everyone that they get to individually vote (?) and for the first time, no one has immunity!

Munnalita and Courtney have a 1kg penalty. Courtney thinks it might cost them their spot in the house.
Damien and Laura have a 1kg advantage. Damien hasn’t thought about it much, but he’s still worried they might not make it anyway.

Damien and Laura are the first duo to face the scales. Laura has no idea what sort of number they’re going to put in. Damien doesn’t know either, especially because of how much more weight he’s carrying than anyone else in the house.
Damien’s first.
Week 6: 174.5kg LOSS: 5.2kg
He seems happy, but I’m a little concerned. It’s a good number, but not great.
Ajay asks if he’s happy with the duo choices and he’s happy with his partner, Laura.

275.4kg is their combined starting weight.
Laura’s up next, oddly enough!
Week 6: 94.4kg LOSS: 1.3kg
Oh dear. She’s a bit disappointed, but she was sort of expecting it after her huge loss last week. Damien’s not disappointed, just shocked, because he’d seen how hard she’d been working out, even running when she’d never run before.
Courtney’s mystified, having seen how hard both had been training.

Their total loss: 7.5kg (after 1kg bonus)
Percentage: 2.72%

Munnalita’s feeling a bit more confident now after seeing their numbers.

Greg and Mel are up next. Mel’s worried, despite Greg’s promise to make up for her injury.
Greg’s up first.
Week 6: 114.7kg LOSS: 6.5kg
Wow! “Not bad, huh?” Greg says the last time he weighed that little was 8 or 9 years ago when he got engaged. Ajay asks him what his wife would say if she could see him now? “Let’s go to bed!” Mel is really happy just to see him smile.
Ajay asks him how important it is for his journey to continue and he says it’s not a journey for him anymore, it’s his life. A journey has to end!

Total weight last week: 211.4kg

Mel’s up next, eventually, she’s hobbling a little. She’s hoping for anything over a kilo.
Week 6: 88kg LOSS: 2.2kg
Not bad! Greg gives a “Wow.” Ajay says a lot of young women will be looking at her for inspiration and Mel says that that’s good and to remember that some weeks you’ll do good numbers, some you won’t.

Combined weight loss: 8.7kg
Percentage: 4.12%
Very, very good!
Mel’s still worried because she knew how hard the others had been training.

Marty and Pati are next. Marty’s nervous, even though him and Pati work well together.
6.4kg is what they’ll need to be above the yellow line at this point. Pati’s confident because she’s figuring Marty will get 5 or 6 and only leave a little bit for Pati to get.

Marty’s first. He’s worried it might be a plateau period for him, especially with the days he missed.
Week 6: 122.5kg LOSS: 7.6kg
“YEAHHHHHHH! Crikey that’s awesome!” He’s well pleased with himself, since he’s basically kept them above the yellow line all by himself.
His dream is to get to 99kg and he’s getting closer and closer to that.
Courtney points out that unless Pati gains weight, they’re probably safe now.

Total weight last week: 231.5kg

Pati’s next.
Week 6: 96.3kg LOSS: 5.1kg
“Awesome!” – Marty. Pati was hoping for anything over 3 or at most 4. She’s really really happy!
She wants to lead a healthy, happy life that she can enjoy. She also wants her sister to be able to live the life she deserves. Looks like she’s very overweight, going by the black and white footage that’s rolling over some of it.

Combined weight loss: 12.7kg
Percentage: 5.49%

That puts Greg and Mel in 2nd place… and Damien and Laura have now slipped below the yellow line, with no way to get back above it. They’re definitely facing elimination.

Just Courtney and Munnalita to go. Munnalita knows they’ve been working hard all work, but she’s still not sure.
Ajay rubs salt into the wound by reminding them that weigh-ins have been won or lost by less than 1kg.
They’ll need a combined weightloss of at least 10.3kg to get above the yellow line. Ouch.
Mel thinks it’ll be close, Greg thought there’d be no chance!

Courtney’s on first, hoping for 5.5kg, but he doesn’t like the chances.
Week 6: 111.2kg LOSS: 6kg
Uhoh! He’s quite happy with that. Courtney says that if he can do it, anyone can, because he’s one of the laziest people he knows. Then he tries to tell us all that exercise doesn’t hurt and he enjoys running!

Total weight last week: 224.1kg

Munnalita’s turn. She needs to have lost at least 4.3kg. Her aside says she wasn’t feeling confident at all… But she doesn’t look too upset so I think maybe she’s done it! She’s hoping for at least 5, 5.5kg
Week 6: 97.9kg LOSS: 9kg
“Are you sure that’s right?!” Holy crap! “Is there really 9 kilos gone?!”
Ajay says they’re all proud of her. Bleh.

Total weight loss: 15kg (14kg after penalty)
Percentage: 6.25%
Puts them in first place. And putting Greg and Mel, Damien and Laura under the yellow line. Oh damn…

Mel’s upset because no matter what, she has to say goodbye to her Blue team because whether she leaves or they leave, someone’s leaving.
Greg thinks it’ll be him and Mel going home because he’s a big threat.

Tomorrow night is elimination night and it’s very emotional. Even Ajay has to wipe away a tear! I can understand why since there’s basically no good result possible – good people are going home no matter what the vote ends up being.
And in an ad for Tuesday’s show, we find out that the Fatties are going to get “the biggest shock”. I hope it’s not another manufactured shock…
