Recap #34 – Wednesday 14th March – Minor Challenge, Major Headache, Captain of Lies!

Previously, on The Biggest Loser Recap, Mythor said that this recap would be late and now Mythor confirms that it is, indeed, late!
Want to know what happened on the show last night? Read on!

(And advance apologies again – tonight’s recap may be running late, too. Hopefully back in the groove by Friday but Saturday’s episode will definitely be on time!)

Everyone is reeling from no longer being in teams and wondering what in the heck the challenge is going to involve.
They all hop in cars… For a 2 minute drive to a nearby oval? Uh, hello, why not have them walk there?
Mel wonders how they’re going to have duos with 7 people.
Damien tells us there’s 7 little enclosures with medicine balls in them but he doesn’t like to speculate, it just makes him nervous.

“Hello, everyone. Welcome to the powerballs challenge.” – Ajay, who probably had to fight the urge to snicker at the ridiculousness of that name!

The winner of today’s challenge will indeed get to pick who is paired with whom. The winner will select 3 duos, with one person being a Neville Nofriends to start with.
Greg would actually like to be the Neville as he thinks that would spur him to train harder.
Pairs must be mixed – one man, one woman. Damien points out there’s only 3 men, 4 women, which means it’ll be a Nevillina Nofriends.

10 medicine balls are in each of the 7 little areas, 72kgs in total for all 10 medicine balls in an area.
Ahh, but they’re not going to be carrying them from one place to another, exactly. No no! The challenge is to get all 70 balls (half a ton, according to the math challenged Ajay) into your own enclosure. “How are you meant to do that?” – Courtney. Who goes on to think that it’s about testing friendships and alliances. Which doesn’t sound right to me, it sounds like it’s a test of endurance – after all, the only way for someone to “lose” this challenge is to not be the one with all of the balls. Which means so long as you keep stealing balls from whoever has the most, the game could go… FOREVER!

No time to plan stuff though, just get running!
A lot of them are stupid and try picking ones away from the centre, making things a little harder for themselves.
Courtney eventually sprints for one of the enclosures next to Munnalita so they can plot, presumably.

“Oh, and there’s another thing: Up for grabs today are two fabulous prizes.” – Ajay. An LG 32″ Plasma TV ($2000+) and an LG Notebook computer ($4000+).
Ready, steady, spaghetti!

Everyone starts to wander around slowly grabbing balls. Courtney tries to form some temporary alliances, saying the best thing to do is to team up.
Mel agrees… But the only person she can trust now that Jules is gone, is Damien.
Greg doesn’t really get on with anyone on his team anymore either, so he started giving his balls to Damien too. Because Damien has touched his heart, he’s a good boy.
Courtney’s meanwhile standing at Munnalita’s box and asking what everyone else is doing. Mel says she thinks the boys are putting balls in Damien’s box and Laura says she’s okay with that and starts doing it as well! Everyone trusts Damien, because he’s made it clear to everyone that they’re there to lose weight and that’s the important thing.
Pati says Damien needs to be there more than anyone and it’s important he stays there.
Courtney and Munnalita have another conflab (it’s a flabby confab!) and Courtney says it’s probably not a good choice but he didn’t really get to talk to anyone else.
Munnalita is disappointed because she really needs to stay there too because the longer she stays there the more she learns about herself. Which would be true, if you’d ever pay attention to your trainer… But she couldn’t start putting balls in Courtney’s box, because that would show her up.
Courtney also points out that he wasn’t going to be the one person against six others, that would be stupid. Have to agree with him there, while he would’ve wanted the “power” himself, it was far better to go along with everyone else so as not to make anyone angry and even more inclined to vote your ass out!

Damien’s a little surprised and concerned that everyone gave him the power because he might upset some people with the choices he makes.
Courtney doesn’t mind because he thinks Damien will be in the final four regardless, because everyone loves him and knows he needs to be there. I think that may be one of the first things Courtney has said that everyone agrees with! Bringing his tally to two for the day.

Damien’s also kind of chuffed that either everyone trusts him… or maybe they just don’t trust anyone else.
Now Damien has a new TV… and a computer. He doesn’t really strike me as the geeky type?

Everyone now has some time to chat with Damo so he can work out where everyone goes.
Greg asks Munnalita in the car ride back what she thinks about it all. And Munnalita says she thinks it’s fine. In her aside she says that everyone seemed happy with choosing Damien… except Courtney and herself, which she starts to crack a smile about…
Pati asks Courtney if he’s pissed off about the decision and he says no. Pati’s aside says that she’s happy Damien has the choice because she trusts his judgement more than she would have some of the others.

Courtney says that he thinks it likely him and Munnalita will get paired together. “You reckon?” – Munnalita. As an actual question, not a redundant, sarcastic one.
Munnalita doesn’t want to discuss things in front of Greg because she thinks he’ll report everything to Damien anyway.
Pati says she really wants to win. Add her to the list of people who don’t understand why they’re there…

Mel says Damien was surprised that everyone agreed to give him the power. She says to him that obviously it’s ultimately his decision, but she thinks they should stick with the “Let’s get Blue people as far as we can” thing they’d been sticking with since the beginning.
He says he’ll talk to everyone but the most important thing is that the show is about weight loss, not money. But he’s really worried because there’s bound to be someone that’s made unhappy. Let’s just hope they remember who gave him the power!

Blue and Red are training out on the lawn together, at Damien’s request, to see how everyone trains together.
He of course wants to pick someone who is capable of losing the most weight. He’d love to pair up with Mel because they push each other hard… but her ankles might be an issue.
Pati’s good too. Laura’s very determined, not the athlete Mel is. Laura just doesn’t want to be on her own.
Munnalita’s the weakest of the lot in his opinion and he definitely doesn’t want her.

Then the mightily cracked in the head one suggests that she wouldn’t really need to be partnered with anyone, if she was she’d end up just pushing them harder, not herself.

Greg’s the best performer, Courtney actually did a good number. Courtney at this point says, surprisingly, that he’d actually liked to be paired with Mel. He likes her company and he thinks they’d be able to push each other.

Damien wants to make it as even as possible, he thinks it may even come down to a couple of hundred grams between duos.

Now he sits them down individually, Munnalita first, about who she’d like to be paired with.
Munnalita comes right out and says that she’d like to be paired with Damien. Surprise! Damien thought she’d pick Courtney for sure, no idea why he’d think that, of course she’d latch onto her best chance of progressing, it’s what she’s done throughout the game?
She does have some reasoning behind it though – because Courtney did a big number last week she doesn’t think he has a big number in him this week, so it’d be “pointless” to pair up with him.

Courtney tries to chat with Pati about what he thinks Munnalita is talking to Damo about. Pati doesn’t look like she wants to chat with him at all!

Damien now chats with Courtney, telling him he was thinking about pairing Courtney and Munnalita up until about 5 minutes ago… But now he’s pondering putting Courtney with Laura, because they both did really good numbers last week so putting them together would hopefully keep them going.
Courtney asks if he has an agreement with Greg yet. Damien has his aside, saying that Greg only has 15kg to go to his goal weight and Damien has been slowly catching him over the past couple of weeks.
We get left with Courtney saying that he thinks those people who most need to stay, need to stay, and they should be the ones who win. I can’t tell if he’s being genuine but going by past experience, I very much doubt it!

Damien goes for a walk to try and think things over. He says he’ll be looking after himself first, Blue second and everyone else third.
He’s going to sleep on it, he says in his video diary. “Thanks, diary!” Funny mannnn.

Everyone files into the weigh-in room for Damien’s decision.
Greg’s wondering if he’s going to play the game “properly” by putting him with a weaker player to make Greg easier to vote off.

Damien’s decisions:
Are revealed in the next episode. Argh!

And in tonight’s episode, someone is returning, Mr Voiceover Man reminds us. I thought it was going to be in this episode? Mr Voiceover Man, why must you toy with us?
