Recap #30 – Friday 9th March – Major Challenge: The Basketball Years

Damien’s more than a little nervous as to what the major challenge could be, after the enormity of the “minor” challenge this week.

Does he have reason to be fearful? And will Munnalita find time for more than one wobbly in a half hour show?

Read on to find out!

Munnalita tells us that the cars pull up in front of the Sydney Entertainment Centre? She thinks they might be in for a big huge stair climb? It’s definitely going to have something to do with climbing stairs. My god, she actually can finish a sentence without making it sound like a question!
Laura sees that the court is set up for basketball and doesn’t think it could just be a basketball game.
Don’t think she realises how fit you have to be to play a full game of basketball!

Ajay confirms that it’s basketball and Courtney immediately wants to be the Red to sit out, he says in his aside.
Laura really wants to win, basically just to shove it to the Red team. And my God, she has a giggle! And smiles!

The winner gets… the lamest prize ever: they get to decide which Red will sit out of the weigh-in… and a movie matinee. Ooooh!
The loser gets nothing.

The two trainers will also be playing!
Michelle’s quite confident because she used to play rep basketball.
“Never in my life have I even mucked around playing on a basketball court!” – Shannan. Oh dear, poor Blue gunna get spanked again?

Three special guests to coach and ref the game. Three Sydney Kings, w00t!
They’re taller than basically everyone there. Michelle comes up to Cameron Tovey’s shoulder. Barely!

Red has a chat beforehand about who they want to have sit out of their team. Munnalita wants to play because she gets sat out of the other games all the time and Courtney doesn’t really want to play.
“But then the shit hit the fan.” – Courtney in the aside.
Michelle, being team leader, with 10 seconds has to make the decision for them because they keep dicking around. She decides to sit Munnalita out.
Ajay asks her how she feels about being sat out, and the tears start welling up immediately. She says she thinks they want to win more than they want to give everyone a go.

YOU MEAN LIKE YOU GAVE ALEX A GO?! Ass.

Jules looks over with a bit of a smirk on her face. Bwah. Munnalita walks out in tears. But Michelle follows, which worries Jules because they’ve been having problems.
Munnalita tells her to go back in there, she doesn’t want to talk to her, etc.
“I wanted to just say, Munnalita, grow up honey. You’re an adult, behave like one!” – Michelle, who should totally do that! Treat her like an adult and maybe she’ll start acting like one?

So meanwhile the game can’t start because Michelle is off with Munnalita, so the rest of the team go off to try and help as well.
Munnalita is sooking about how she knows she’s not good at running and other stuff but she just wants to feel like she’s helping the team. Guess what darling, as the weakest member, sitting you out IS helping the team!
Once they came back out, Marty pipes up and asks Ajay if they can possibly revisit the decision and Ajay seems to agree, so Marty says they’d like to have Munnalita in the game and let Courtney sit out. Pati’s a bit pissed at this because he didn’t ask anyone first if it was okay. Munnalita blows up again and says she doesn’t want them to do that and in her aside she gets really petty and says she didn’t want to play after the team had already said she wasn’t good enough to play. You’re not, not everyone can be good at everything and it’s a competition that your team badly needs to win. GET OVER IT!
So anyway Marty just makes it simple, yes or no, do you want to play? Munnalita says yes and is about to qualify it when Marty cuts across her and says okay, that’s our decision!

Ajay announces that now Munnalita will be in the game, Courtney will be sitting out. Michelle is hopeful that Munnalita will use her anger on the court to spur her on. Let’s hope those Mars bars aren’t still weighing her down because white men can’t jump and she’s a woman so she reeeally can’t jump!

Munnalita’s running all over the court trying to prove to her team that she could make a good contribution.
Blue’s clicking well at the start, 4-0 early on. Lots of fat people crashing down all over the place.
Then it goes to 8-0. Then Munnalita gets a rebound from Michelle and pots it easily. And another later on, making it 12-4. Then 12-5 at quarter time!

Marty’s flabbergasted that they’re behind.
Some of the Blue girls are complaining about how rough Marty’s getting.
Damien gets the ball at one point with Michelle marking him. Damien’s above 6 foot and Michelle looks 5 foot nothing compared to him. Damien pots it easily!
20-11 towards the end of the 2nd quarter when Marty pipes up, “quite rudely” according to Munnalita… But his major offense? He was offering her some advice on how to play, namely don’t try and shoot through three or four people, pass it back to someone who’s open, like he was a couple of times. “Ohhh, don’t give me that, Marty!”
Michelle wants them to sort it out, to cut out the in-house bitching. She knows they can pull it back if they pull together, but it’s just not happening so far!

22-11 at half time. Go Blue!
Blue’s expert says they’re going well and working together as a team and that’s the real difference. Shannan agrees and says it shows how good teamwork is, because on paper they’re nuthin’!
Shannan gives an unco pass to Laura, she pump-fakes and then shoots, pulling them even further ahead. Lots of great teamwork shots.

But then Mel goes down at the 3 point line. Her ankle’s given out again and everyone is very concerned.
They get her shoe off and it doesn’t look like it’ll be too bad. She only has four of her nails painted though.
Ultimately she says, “Just strap it and I’ll keep playing.” Mel is fucking hardcore!
But will this signal a Red comeback?
28-15. 28-21. 28-23 at 3/4 time.
Come on Blue!

Start of the last quarter and Shannan takes a shot… which is a total aiiiiiiiiiiiirbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall!
Munnalita gets fouled up the other end which she’s happy about because it gave her a chance to prove she was making a worthwhile contribution.
Shortly afterwards Marty pots another 2 pointer, putting Red ahead.

Shannan says it’s time to stop worrying about the fouls and starts getting more physical, as does everyone else Michelle notices. Lots of bumping and fighting for the ball and so on.
Damien pulls a 3 pointer out of his ass to make the score 31-29, Blue winning once again!

Munnalita pots another to level the scores. Uhoh! Pati pots another just as time runs out. Damn!

Apparently the movie matinee is actually “mystery footage” which turns out to be family movie stuff. Again.
Munnalita’s husband is a chubster as well.
Marty’s message is from his brother? Or sister? And their family. Because they call him “Uncle Marty”!

Coming on Sunday the rift in Red gets even deeper and Blue trains super hard during last chance training.
“I can’t watch this!” – Courtney. Sounds like it’ll be close once again!
