Recap #29 – Thursday 8th March – The Walk and the Wobbly
“It was basically a death sentence for one of them. Heh heh heh.” – Courtney
Who is going to DIE? Read on to find out… or take a wild guess and assume no one’s died because he wasn’t being literal!
Oh noes, Jules isn’t feeling well. Heartrate going up and down, feeling faint at the end of Temptation. She has an irregular heartbeat and takes medication for it every day.
She wanders off to see the medic.
Medic asks her if she’s even feeling dizzy while lying down.
“Atril-fibrillation”? Not sure. Perhaps someone medically inclined could fill us in on the proper term? But basically her heart rate bounces around quite a bit, like she’ll be at 70bpm for a while, then it’ll shoot up to 185bpm for no good reason.
So she’s off to hospital to have blood tests and so on. No screaming sirens or anything like that, but a trip in an ambulance.
Red team are out on the lawn and seeing the ambulance arrive. Some of them knew about her heart trouble, some didn’t. All are concerned and hoping she’ll be okay though, which makes a nice change!
“The last time someone was sent to the hospital, they didn’t return to the game. Sam.” – Mel
Shannan arrives to a having recently cried Mel and an as usual recently cried Laura.
And no Jules.
They tell him that she’s gone off to hospital after last night’s shenanigans, with them all having had little sleep due to the commando.
Mel starts to break down again while talking about them having had only about 3 hours sleep and now Jules’ heart isn’t holding up.
Shannan moves them on to the Temptation. Damien says what he had and Shannan is okay with that because he’s a big boy and can work it off.
But he’s disappointed with the team, because they still haven’t got a strategy, as “Little One” Laura says that she had about 1,000 calories as well.
And then Damien tells him that Courtney had 2,280 calories, and Shannan was very upset because not only did they have more calories but didn’t end up with immunity anyway!
But now it’s time to train!
Michelle arrives to ask her team about the Temptation, and if it had anything to do with chocolate (cue team, particularly Munnalita, laughing a lot while Michelle looks really worried), and Courtney perkily relates what he ate and you can see Michelle start to seethe.
Pati says she had a chocolate milkshake, which doesn’t change Michelle’s mood at all.
Now it’s Munnalita’s turn, and she said that as she was walking out there she thought if there was anything to do with chocolate there, she was going to eat it. Cue another shot of Michelle looking even more furious and trying to hide it some more… Munnalita seems not to notice as she goes on to say that the only thing there was a deep fried Mars bar on the menu. Which she umm’d and ahh’d over and eventually said, “Alright, give me a Mars bar!” “Not deep fried, though?” Asks Marty and Munnalita confirms it was just a Mars bar… Which doesn’t seem to placate Michelle in the slightest!
Then she goes on to try and justify it by saying she’s been there two months, lost 17 kilos and worked her ass off, so she thinks that means she “deserves it”.
And then she thought she’d have another one. After she had one she wasn’t satisfied (should’ve had a Snickers?) so she decided to have two, after which she was satisfied.
“Of course Munnalita, I totally understand why you would eat not one but two Mars bars. Of course! … What did she really think I was going to say?” – Michelle in the aside.
“Those excuses? That’s all they are.” – Michelle
“Really, come on, I thought I deserved it?” – More Michelle!
Munnalita in an aside says she knows Michelle would think two Mars bars is ridiculous. She bets Michelle hasn’t eaten a Mars bar in her life and if she has, she probably had one bite and threw the rest in the bin. Because apparently shovelling 5 down your pie hole is totally acceptable?
“I felt this is what I had to do.” “You HAD to do it?”
“If you want to justify it that way to yourself like that Munnalita, you go right ahead honey.” – Michelle, to Munnalita’s face.
“Given the fact that Munnalita is a self-confessed choc-a-holic, that she would sit at home and eat herself stupid with chocolat eand she’s just gone and done this I thought to myself – have you absolutely learnt nothing in here?” – Michelle in the aside.
“Two’s alright when I could have had like five!” – Munnalita. Michelle: “I’m done with this conversation.”
So it’s time to go burn the calories off. “And that’ll be the last eyeroll, Munnalita!”
Michelle says that if they want to have a bit of an eat then they’re going to have a training session to match it!
Poor Greg and Marty have to cop it sweet and just get an extra tough workout, while the three girls will have to work hard, particularly Munnalita and Pati who really only had something because they felt they deserved it.
Munnalita then butts in here to say that Michelle had better keep her mouth shut or she’s just going to get it! Da-da-DUNNNNN!
At one point while Munnalita was doing a commando crawl Michelle points at the ground in front of her and says “There’s a Mars bar, come on! Get there!” She also follows her around a bit and asks if she’s angry about having those Mars bars now, are ya angry? Are ya? Huh? Oooh, so angry. And Munnalita says she’s not angry, she’s not CENSORED angry. Ha!
“Oh, there’ll definitely be words about this. I know that we’re not cool. She’s going to hold a grudge now.” – Michelle in an aside followed by saying direct to Munnalita – “Got to get rid of those Mars bars, you know those ones that’re okay to eat?”
Blue meanwhile are off in the “gym” that’s empty. Laura can’t do any leg work so he has her doing crunches and pushups. Guess she can do pushups after all, huh?
Mel and Damien are told to fill up some shopping bags with bottles of water. “Today, we’re going to pump not iron, but water!”
Mel is really impressed by this because she can’t afford all the gym equipment, but she can afford a case of water!
They’re doing some curls first, then up and down the runway to the weigh-in scales!
Mel’s getting a little frustrated with Laura’s tendency to break down and cry in the middle of training sessions, rather than saving it for the end. It’s taking Shannan away from the rest of the team a bit too often.
Now it’s time for Courtney to go on The Walk!
Marty tells us he’s very suspicious of Courtney because they know he’s lied to a lot of people around the house.
“Courtney’s a nice guy to hang around but when it comes to the game? No, I don’t trust him.” – Mel
Courtney’s planning on targeting either Damien or Marty for elimination if he gets that option.
Damien’s looking at Courtney off on his walk and hoping that it’ll be something bad for Red!
Michelle pays an unannounced visit on the house while he’s doing that because she has some unfinished business with her team.
She’d slept on it overnight and come up with more things she wanted to say in front of the whole team. But mostly for the two girls who’d caved in.
She points out that they’re in the house for sixteen weeks and if you can’t have some discipline for sixteen weeks, how’re you going to cope for the rest of your life?
Munnalita then tries to explain why she felt she “needed” the chocolate – because it’s like an alcoholic, she knows she’s a chocoholic and she hadn’t had any in so long (uh, chocolate mousse is chocolate you fat idiot) and she felt like she needed it to get through the next few weeks.
Michelle then asks her where her priorities are – she could be “really cutting” and ask if it’s more important to have two Mars bars, or to have a baby? Uhoh!
In the aside, Munnalita says she couldn’t believe that Michelle said that. She was furious, again!
Michelle in her one says that Munnalita had said to her that that is her number one priority. It was a tough call for her to put it back on Munnalita.
Michelle tells her then that she can either accept what she’d just said or she can think Michelle is full of crap.
She knows she’s opened a can of worms there, but things like that are what’s holding her back.
Munnalita hasn’t been so angry in her life so she went off to find Michelle immediately.
She flies into a rage at Michelle saying that it’s six months and they’re not expected to have anything like that and how she really needed it and she feels like she didn’t do anything wrong and how dare Michelle say it in front of everyone.
In an aside in the middle, Munnalita says she wasn’t doing it just for herself but for all the other overweight people out there where, what she calls, “thin people” (yes, she did inverted commas around that) judge them and don’t understand where they’re coming from.
Michelle is a bit shocked at all this but she wasn’t going to come back with the same level of anger. Just going to let it all come out.
“I’m the one that’s working my ass all the time off, I know what I’m going through on a day to day basis, you only think you know what we’re going through, you don’t! You don’t! You think you know, you’re not living it every single day. I felt if I had that it would get me through the next lot.”
Michelle has her aside here and points out, as I’d noticed as well, that even through all Munnalita’s anger she was still trying to justify herself and trying to shift the blame onto Michelle instead.
Michelle wants to ask her one question as she storms off back inside the house, “So now is it that I’m to blame if you unravel?”
Munnalita then starts off scream-sobbing again about how two is less, she used to eat five fucking chocolate bars a day and a fucking mudcake and all this other shit.
Michelle says (aside) it’s really hard to work through some of this stuff with them at times because of how bad their inner demons are.
Munnalita then cracks it entirely and walks out of that room too, leaving Michelle to stand there and sort of sigh quietly.
… but wait! Instead of running to the fridge to eat a bunch of food like she used to do, she puts her shoes on and goes for a walk. An hour’s long walk.
And the light bulb finally goes on above her head as she realises why she’s out walking – because of Michelle. Michelle was right. And Munnalita knows it at last.
Michelle sees that she’s walking for ages and finally decides to have another shot at getting her to talk things through. She’s not sure how she’ll be received but she really wants to try… so once more into the breach!
Munnalita says it pissed her off when Michelle said that she’d rather have Mars bars than kids. Michelle can’t always sympathise, sometimes she needs to push her.
Munnalita admits that in the end, if she hadn’t had the Mars bars which precipitated the fight in the first place she might not have gotten out all the things she wanted to get out of her system so that it actually all sort of worked out in a strange way and she felt much better.
The back and forth while walking finally ends in a hug, with Munnalita thanking Michelle for letting her yell at her and Michelle saying she can yell any time she needs to. She’ll even yell back occasionally!
And we’re barely halfway through the show. Yikes!
Courtney’s walk at last!
Courtney wants something that will stuff someone else up in some way, because he’s a horrid little troll, he wants to stir the pot and have something that benefits him.
Ajay tells him that while he got there with immunity, he’s going to leave without it. Ha!
Four bowls around him once again:
1. Give immunity to a Red
2. Give immunity to a Blue
3. Give immunity to a female
4. Give immunity to a male
Har har har!
Courtney points at one of the bowls like a twit. Ajay tells him his destiny awaits. “This better be the one I want!”
He must go back to the house and announce his decision by sunset.
He’s thinking that maybe he can save someone who then may later end up saving him. I doubt it, nobody but Munnalita likes you!
Marty is most concerned about another instant elimination.
And he’s picked the “Give your immunity to someone on Blue!” Suffer!
Mel’s panicking a bit and they’re trying to work out how to get him to give it to herself, Jules or Damien.
Courtney decides to talk with his team first, with Munnalita saying he should give it to Laura because she’s struggling the most. Marty suggests that maybe a better option would be to simply pull someone’s name out of a hat. That way they’ll respect that he’s made it fair, hasn’t played favourites, etc.
Yeah, that’s not going to happen!
Pati feels for Laura as well, because she’s nowhere near ready to go home. And the Red consensus ends up being that it should be offered to Laura.
So Courtney goes off to find Laura for a chat, and of course she gets a bit teary in the side interview and she really needs to be there, isn’t ready to go home, etc.
Courtney pretends he has a heart and says that from his heart it’s best to give it to Laura.
Next he goes to chat to Mel and Damien… And Mel just comes right out and says that they have to plead with him not to give it to Laura! Courtney raises an eyebrow and Mel says that she knows that will probably make him give it to Laura anyway. Mel sets out her case though, saying that because of her lower weightloss last week if Laura has the immunity then Mel will likely be the one to get voted out and that would obviously be bad for Mel!
Mel says in her aside that she’s worked hard and she’s helped the others train hard too.
And then Damien drops a bombshell promise – if Courtney gives immunity to Mel, those two will vote for anyone else on the Red team, before they vote for him! Now that’s some real power!
Mel asks if there’s anything they can say or do to convince him to make it a definite yes… And Courtney says that all he needs is their word, because he’ll stick by that (…) and both Blues immediately offer their hands.
Damien says it’s the first time he’s actually felt like they’re playing the game by making a kind of alliance. But he tells Courtney that they can’t speak for Jules, because she’s not back yet… And just as he’s telling Courtney that, in walks Jules!
“Are you here to stay?” “Yeah!” Hurrah!
Now they have to fill her in. Jules feels a bit uncomfortable about making an alliance with Courtney, feeling they may have made a deal with the devil.
But they all agree now. And Courtney agrees that he’ll give the immunity to Mel.
Jules is still a bit unhappy, but she really needs to stay in the house because she needs to lose the weight to help her heart and get healthy.
Now Courtney takes Munnalita aside by herself to talk with her, because she’s the only one he really trusts.
He tells her about the discussion he just had.
Munnalita isn’t sure. She thinks Laura is a bit more trustworthy than the other three, so is one sure thing better than three uncertainties?
Then Munnalita whispers something else in Courtney’s ear that the mike can’t pick up… which sends Courtney off for a bit more of a think about things.
Jules didn’t feel like she was in for a surprise, because she felt she could trust what Courtney had said. Damien echoes the sentiment.
In the end he took Marty’s suggestion and drew out the names from a hat, and he pulled out Damien! Riiiight. Suspect Munnalita’s suggestion was to say it was random, then give it to one of the alliance of three other than Mel. Not sure why he’d do that rather than just say it was Mel to not tip off Red but give a nudge-nudge wink-wink to Blue…
Then he goes on to say that Damien inspires people and so it’s a good thing if he’s there longer… But hang on, didn’t he do it at random? Hmmm.
Red team was expecting him to say Laura, so everyone but Munnalita is pretty pissed!
They go inside to have a chat on the lounge and Marty is hoping someone will say something… but no one does.
“Very sneaky character, Courtney is. Very sneaky, very sneaky.” – Pati
Damien takes Courtney aside to ask if he really drew it out of a hat or not, and Courtney fesses up and says no, he didn’t.
So he asks why and Courtney admits it was just purely for the “benefit” of his “teammates” so they wouldn’t assume something was up.
If he only knew they were onto him anyway!
But Damien says he’s happy with Courtney’s explanation of his actions, “So the deal still stands… Maybe! Heh heh heh!” Genuine good humour there, but we’ll see if he’s so eager to hold up his end in a week or two’s time!
Blue is waiting for Shannan to come back to the house and they’ve got good news, both with Jules being back and they’ve finally got themselves some immunity!
When Damien tells Shannan that he has immunity now, Shannan bursts out laughing and says “Works for me!” And in the aside he says they’ve obviously been doing some wheeling and dealing.
And they’ve also found out it’s Shannan’s birthday and they have a cake they made themselves! Which turned out really good apparently. It makes Shannan feel great because he realises he’s really a part of the team, not just their trainer, a real part of their lives. Awww!
Tomorrow night’s challenge appears to be a basketball match? And Munnalita is going to chuck another wobbly about being left out of the team by Red to even up the teams. She asks Michelle who chases her down if they’re going to leave her out of the challenge next week as well, etc.
*shakes magic 8 ball* All signs point to Yes!
And tempers are going to flare on the court, with Michelle declaring in a side bit that some of them need to grow up. Oooh!
[Late Edit]
Just realised something. You know what would have been the smart option for Courtney? Give immunity to Jules. It’s a gamble, sure, but with her having been to hospital once there was a good chance she’d end up out of the game as well, as Sam did. And he could have justified it by saying she “needs it” because of the training she’d miss? Or even just say “to make you feel better, n’awwww”. Or not even bother justifying it.
Just something that occured to me. :-)
