Recap #20 – Monday 26th Feb. – Blue is blue at the elimination
“I was over the moon!” – Marty, on realising Red aren’t going to elimination.
I doubt Blue is sharing the sentiment tonight as they once more have to send someone home. Who will they decide no longer deserves a place in the house?
Read on to find out!
Michael says that this is the worst time of the week, especially losing by only 200g, only a small tub of Yogo.
Gerard feels like his small weightloss means he let the team down. He compliments Damien on his awesome weightloss, Damien saying that it doesn’t matter because someone is still going home. Gerard said it was still worthy of acknowledgment.
Then he congratulates Michael on his result as well… but says it’s no secret he hasn’t been doing his training (ie; “homework”) so maybe that really is a magic spa out there. Bit of a smirk on his face there. Is another love triangle in the making?
Jules wonders where Michael’s team spirit is at times, though Michael says “Everything I do is for the team!”
“What, playing basketball out the back, you call that training?” – Gerard
P’eta comes right out and says she’ll be voting for him, because she’s disappointed in his effort.
Damien takes Michael outside for a chat, asking him who he’ll be voting for and Michael is very upfront about his vote going to Gerard, because Gerard just isn’t putting in the numbers required. He points out that he, unlike Gerard, will keep putting in good numbers, which can ultimately only help the team.
He has a point here – while it would be better if he trained more and helped the team train more and so on, so long as he keeps putting in big numbers that can be very important to the team, and Damien acknowledges as much.
The girls are sitting down on the couch and P’eta says she doesn’t much care if he drops 20 kilos a week, his effort and team spirit are just lacking and that hurts. Jules says he doesn’t impress her either.
Laura, in a slightly hesistant voice, tells the other two that she thinks Blue might crumble a bit without Michael, because for all his training faults, he pulls his weight in challenges and gives good numbers at the weigh-in. very brave of her as she obviously doesn’t stick up for her own viewpoint too often. She seemed very reluctant to go against what P’eta was saying, though P’eta didn’t scream at her or anything mean like that.
Next, Damien and Jules take Gerard aside to discuss his training attitude, saying he has to give 100% all the time.
Gerard tells him to back up, saying he’s getting better all the time. But he knows with a low number at the weigh-in, he’s in a lot of trouble, so he’s prepared himself mentally to leave, figuring it’s him or Michael.
Can’t say as I’d be too disappointed with either option, but the thought of a split-vote or one of the others going instead is still worrying me!
Ajay says the 200g is a “small glass of water” and I think if the contestants had had a few more “small glasses of water” and a few less “small tubs of Yogo” they might have made it!
Ajay asks Gerard if he feels like he might be heading home tonight, and he says yes, and the low number didn’t help.
“Michael, looking around thise table, do you think you have any friends you can rely on?” “Maybe one or two, perhaps not enough. […] My best friend went home last week.” “What is it you miss about Kelly?” THE SPA SEX? No, just “talking about life” and other weak excuses!
P’eta’s decision is based on the attributes the Biggest Loser should have: hard work, dedication, focus, willingness to be part of a team. Bye Michael!
Michael: 1 (P’eta)
Laura says her decision was very tough, especially since she’s only been part of the Blue team for a couple of days. The person she’s voted for hasn’t been pulling their weight around the house, it’s a team effort.
Michael: 1 (P’eta)
Gerard: 1 (Laura)
Michael was struggling between two people and ultimately he went for the person with the lowest number and because they have a defeatist attitude.
Gerard: 2 (Laura, Michael)
Michael: 1 (P’eta)
Gerard’s vote is another lack of teamwork thing.
Michael: 2 (P’eta, Gerard)
Gerard: 2 (Laura, Michael)
Damien would have voted Michael, right up to the weigh-in, but seeing his result has changed his mind, because they need that strength. So his vote is based on the results in the weigh-in.
Laura: 1 (Damien)
Michael: 2 (P’eta, Gerard)
Gerard: 2 (Laura, Michael)
Seriously, Laura?!
If Jules votes for Laura as well, it will be a hung vote, and Red will decide.
Jules agrees with what everyone else has said around the table, and her decision is based on who is helping around the house… but right now she’s feeling like she might have made a very big mistake with who she’s written down… so expect an ad break any second! But she had to go with her gut feeling, and she’s agonised over it, and her vote has gone… to the ad break!
Jules votes for… Michael!
Michael looks unimpressed!
“How’re you feeling?” “Pretty ordinary. I wonder where the team is going when last week they voted out the biggest loser and this week they voted out the second biggest loser.” He also points out that he lost more than 3 of the others combined and lost more than anyone on the Red team managed. He also points out that he “took one for the team” in the treadmill challenge and that’s why his homework suffered.
Jules says she wished Michael had talked like that during the week, instead of leaving it until now. He could have come and talked to them. Michael points out that any of them could have come and had a chat to him but no one did.
Damien said that all the stuff Michael said is why he didn’t vote for him.
Laura is sad she didn’t get a chance to know him, but she’s happy she got a chance to sit down with him yesterday for a chat.
Michael has long since started crying. Wuss!
Everyone says goodbye to him and lots of hugs and firm, manly handshakes and so on.
And he’s off. Time for Ajay’s lecture! She’s surprised they’ve again voted off one of their biggest losers. I don’t think anyone else is because their two bigger losers have been pretty big losers?
“People voting with morals and shit like that, but as a team we really needed Michael’s strength.” – Laura
“I’ve got no regrets. Not a single regret. His lack of dedication was hurting the team.” – P’eta
“I don’t think it really matters what gets him there, it’s that he somehow gets there. It’s about losing weight.” – Damien
Gerard feels really bad about Michael going home, because he feels like he lost them the weigh-in.
Shannan is all sadface about losing a team member.
“Two. Hundred. Grams.” “Noooo?”
Damien says he has a hard time seeing how they can win the next weigh-in.
Shannan looks pretty disappointed with the weightlosses of most of the team. And he’s disappointed that they’d voted off Michael who lost more weight than Laura, P’eta and Gerard combined.
Shannan asks Gerard where he thinks it’s gone wrong and Gerard pins it on the diet and maybe metabolism has changed because he’s older, but he’s happy to put all his trust in what Shannan tells him.
Laura, in a video diary bit, says that Gerard is 43 and he’s acting like a 4 year old child! Needs to pull his finger out!
Then Damien tells him his number and earns a crashtackle from Shannan.
shannan’s very worried though because he knows Red is starting to kick their butts in terms of athletic ability.
Michelle was very relieved to see everyone and when told that the difference was only 200 grams, “Who cares?”
Greg’s turn to tell his number and he mumbles into his hand. Michelle asks him what that means, “It was a girl’s number!” “That’s so twenty pushups, just for that comment alone!”
Greg is a bit disappointed but Michelle is happy, she has to remind him that he’d told himself he wouldn’t be disappointed so long as he kept losing weight. “Yeah, but I was lying to myself!”
Marty confesses he went out and weighed up his options – boxers or undies. Literally, weighed them in the kitchen. Earning a hearty guffaw from the whole team!
Blue is off to the poooooool for training today. “We’re here at the pool!” Thanks, Shannan!
He goes on to point out that the people who voted out Michael are going to have to step up to the plate.
“Now, jump in the pool! […] Right, now get out!” In the aside Shannan says you think it’s easy getting out of a pool? Try lifting 196kg out of the pool!
“Last week was Project Damien, this week is Project Gerard.”
Damien has a pretty good swimming stroke, considering how large he is.
Gerard was managing to gain ground on Damien, until near the end where Gerard gives up, again, and starts to wade the rest of the way.
Shannan gets pretty pissed at this and tears into him when he gets to the end of the pool, saying it’s got to be strong Gerard this week and that’s just not going to cut it!
“There’s no use training if you’re just going to do it half-arsed!” – Damien
Meanwhile Red is off to… the Sydney Dance Company?
They’re all really happy. Marty and Greg seem a little less impressed. Courtney’s worried because he can’t even dance in clubs and stuff.
Michelle tells them all that dancers don’t get bodies like the dancing instructor if they don’t work hard.
She has to keep pushing them all pretty hard as some of them are slacking off.
Courtney’s making excuses, saying they’re fat people and they can’t do this!
Most of them are making pretty good progress and Michelle doesn’t need to push them so much… so she joins in the dancing! They’re all having a lot of fun and actually almost working as a team!
P’eta’s Dad has phoned. She’s worried because her Dad wouldn’t call if it wasn’t something big.
First he says everything is fine at home… but then he says well basically, you’ve been sacked.
Apparently her boss was real supportive before she left and she’s given them everything, so she’s really crushed they sacked her.
She asks if she can have a chat with Shannan about it all. Maybe she could get Shannan to go pay her boss a visit and KICK HIS ASS.
Shannan gives her a big hug, and she starts to talk to him about her lesbianism. Apparently she came out at 22, and he’s very understanding and says it’s amazing that she was dealing with all of the usual things a 22 year old deals with, as well as the am-I-gay thing.
And P’eta says that this is another one of those bad times.
Shannan wants to use this to drive her along.
P’eta goes off to tell her Blue team about her job loss and they all seem a bit at a loss as to what to say. Shannan says in his aside that if she wants to deal with this and continue to lose weight then she’s in the right place with the Blue team.
Michael’s home. Fairly subdued reception but everyone is happy to see him.
Since leaving the house… He’s looking FREAKING AMAZING. Dude is still a bit chubby around the chin, but the rest of his body is really that of any average guy. You can even see muscles in his arms and so on now.
He’s down to a XXXL from an XXXXXXXL. He’s fairly tall which is probably helping his overall shape.
Looking at his audition tape, the difference is amazing. It’s still very obviously the same guy, but he looks so much better now.
He has an Adelaide Crows shirt he bought a long while ago which is a XXXL which he’s never been able to fit into… Now he can!
Two months after leaving the show and Michael has lost an impressive 35.4kg!
The challenge this week seems to be some kind of cool ducking and jumping challenge. A large vertical pole spins around between two contestants, with two small horizontal poles attached. One of the horizontal poles is up high, one is down low. You jump over one, duck under the other. Looks to be another endurance challenge, rather than anyone getting knocked out… Hopefully!
Temptation looks to be in a sushi restaurant? Easiest challenge to turn down ever!
