Recap #19 – Sunday 25th Feb. – Week 3 Weigh-in
Well, it’s time for the week 3 weigh-in. Who will win? Who will lose? Who will lose the most?
Other than Ajay, who loses every time until they hire a decent wardrobe guy.
Read on to find out!
During the preview bits, the show has blurred out the results once again… Though they still have people reacting to their losses/gains and such so you can tell who is going to get a good number and who isn’t, which sort of defeats the point of blurring it out anyway?
Bob & Jillian are still in the credits. It still cuts like a knife! na na naaaa…
Once Shannan and Michelle arrive, Shannan is happy to see his Blues already training, then he asks them if they’d won the challenge and they tell him yes, and he gets all excited and spazzes out and stuff.
They also tell him about how the Red team now doesn’t have their trainer for Last Chance Workout and… his smile became a little pastede on at that point. I don’t think the Blues noticed, but I think he was a little disappointed in that. Guess he prefers a fair fight too.
Then the phone calls to family thing is related and he’s all happy again, asking them if they’ve done it yet. Damien tells him how they were also given the option of letting the Reds call home as well and they said definitely.
“That is a mark of dignity and respect, okay?” – Shannan
Michelle’s reds are a bit lower on enthusiasm, telling her that they lost by a couple of seconds.
Then they tell her the really bad news – Red don’t get to be trained by her until after the weigh-in. “WHAT?!”
She tries to put a good spin on it, saying they know how to train… and assigning Marty and Munnalita to lead the training session.
Marty seems a good choice, since even if he does have a tendency to slack off a bit himself, he’s a good guy and will encourage the others very well.
Munnalita seems to be under the impression Michelle chose her because she works hard and stuff. I think it’s more she trusts Munnalita to have a big mouth on her as usual.
Courtney has to go off and have some x-rays done on his ankle, as he’s been carrying a bit of an injury. Everyone else on the team is saying he’ll be “gone all day” and such. Courtney rightly points out that it’s just an x-ray, he’ll only be gone an hour!
But Michelle knows that it’s the right thing to do, to make sure that there’s nothing really wrong in his ankle. Which really proves all the naysayers wrong again…
Michelle tells the team that they’ll have to keep working their butts off and she’s sure they won’t lose the weigh-in but they have to make sure and so on.
Michelle then takes Mel outside for a chat about how she’s feeling. Mel’s sort of breaking down a bit. Things were going well on Blue but that got taken away from her and now she feels like everyonee is working against her losing weight. Michelle assures her that as soon as she’s allowed to be back and training Red, Mel will be well looked after, she’ll get her going. And again tells her that any time she wants a chat, Michelle is there for her, and whatever they talk about won’t go any further.
Shannan takes Blue off for another punching circuit. Involves punching the mitts with Shannan, punching a standing bag and running up and down some stairs near the training room. Looks like a lot of fun!
Gerard’s coming along really well with his boxing. The techniques not much to look at, but he really gets into it now without having to be cajoled endlessly by Shannan. Now it’s much more just telling him how many punches to give in each position of the mitts.
In the aside, Gerard is happy with the boxing training, as he feels it’s showing his sons that he can be tough as well.
Laura… hits like a girl! But she does alright, no tears like the last time we saw Shannan and Laura working out with the boxing gloves in the first training session.
Shannan is really stoked with how far she’s come, as she went for 35 minutes straight this time, punching “hard and fast”, with no tears or complaints or anything like that. He even cracks a joke about the tears at one point during the workout and Laura… cracks a smile!
As Shannan said, she’s really turned a corner.
Shannan has found out that Michael “hasn’t been doing his homework”, which I guess is a reference to training without the trainers present.
He’s complaining about being a bit flat ever since the marathon treadmill challenge, his lower body feeling a bit dead. But he’s been eating right and training the best he can and stuff.
Shannan then recalls to us that Michael used to get picked on a lot as a kid, with Michael telling us that his Dad passed away when he was 5 and from about that point he started to slowly put on weight.
Is this the beginning of an attempt to remake Michael in our eyes?
Shannan uses all the teasing he endured as a kid as motivation for punching the mitts as hard as he can.
Next cab off the rank is Damien. Apparently he’s still pulling up a bit short of his maximum potential, and Shannan tries once more to get through to him.
After some upstairs-downstairs action, Damien wanders off outside because he’s concerned he’s going to throw up (Jillian’s going to be jealous!) and Shannan shortly follows him outside and tries to coax him back in, telling him not to worry if he’s going to throw up, throw up in the bin inside! Shannan needs him back inside, he needs the consistency of continuing to train. Shannan even says he’d be happier with Damien punching a little less hard, but just keep going consistently.
Eventually he has to take him aside in the gym and remind him of the patheticness of his 2.2kg loss last week and how bad it would be to repeat that this week.
Finally Damien steps up and gives him some hard punches, making Shannan a bit happier, but he’s still a little cross, saying in the aside that he’s letting the team down a little by wandering off sometimes.
Marty has the Red team starting out on the spin bikes, pushing them really hard… Except for Munnalita who is quite clearly slacking off, not even breaking a sweat while the perspiration flows like rivers off everyone else. Next is the elliptical… thingies. Where Munnalita puts in a lot more effort.
Marty is holding a punching target to his chest for Greg to slog it out a bit… When in walks Shannan?
Apparently as soon as he found out that Red weren’t going to have their trainer, he wanted to get in there and give them a little bit of advice and help because he felt like it was the right thing to do.
Doubters of the awesomeness of Shannan, the exits are here, here and here… get off my internets!
Courtney finally returns with a clearance from the doctor to keep training as hard as he can be bothered to train. He gets on the treadmill once he arrives, so that’s something of a good sign.
Marty is worried that even though they’ve done everything they can, they’re still going to lose the weigh-in!
Munnalita takes Michelle off to the side to talk about the Red teams diet, as the Blue team has recently changed to a new diet and she’s very worried it’ll give the Blues an advantage at the weigh-in.
Way to show confidence in your trainer, Munnalita!
Anyway, when she was standing around instead of training at some point, she saw various bits of paper spread around and saw that one of them was the diet plan… so she pinched it. Yes, she’s an all round great gal!
Michelle tells us she didn’t even need to look at it because she knew that Shannan had them on another diet and that it may very well give them a good number this week… but the gamble is, it also may not!
Michelle tells her that they’ve been on the right diet from day one, and reassures her that it’ll be fine and that Blue are running the risk of exhausting all their energy, which leaves no energy for training.
But most of all, she needs to trust Michelle!
Sadly, no bitchslap was administered. Even after all that, Munnalita was still going to base it on the numbers Blue get, rather than trusting their trainer. Sigh.
Everyone on Red seems worried they’re not going to win the weigh-in. Even newcomer Mel is concerned, though it takes her a moment to remember she’s now Red team!
Blue is a bit more confident due to their newfangled diet.
Third weigh-in and poor Ajay has to endure another frumpy dress. Sigh. She looked much better in camo pants and silly pink top on the dog show beforehand.
Laura is first up. Bear in mind that this is her second competitive weigh-in, not her third like the rest!
Week 3: 103.8kg – LOSS: 1.4kg
She’s disappointed, but Ajay reminds her that a loss is a loss, and Damien in the aside reiterates that any loss is a good loss! P’eta is really happy with Laura’s progress, saying she’s become an important part of the team.
P’eta herself is next, with hopes of a 5kg loss, saying she’s worked hard this week.
Week 3: 126.3kg – LOSS: 1.4kg
Same as Laura, weird. Laura says that P’eta seemed disappointed, but Laura is happy with her, because fat is fat and it’s gone now.
Gerard’s concerned at this point, thinking they’ve lost for sure. He’s up next.
Week 3: 120.6 – LOSS: 1.5kg
Gerard’s devastated, saying he feels ripped off, cheated. Even describes it as “crappy”. He tries to blame it on Shannan’s new diet, saying it’s obviously not working for him.
Total so far: 4.3kg
Jules steps up next, with a quietly confident smile on her dial.
Week 3: 115.1kg – LOSS: 3.1kg
Very nice number compared to the rest of her team so far. Exercising has made her think more about her situation and her family. Damien said he’s really inspired by Jules and her struggles.
Total: 7.4kg
Gerard’s sticking the knife into Michael, reminding us all that Michael hasn’t been doing his homework, and if Gerard only lost 1.5kg how bad will Michael do? Let’s find out!
Week 3: 145.7kg – LOSS: 5.3kg
Wow! For someone who “hasn’t been doing his homework” that’s very impressive. P’eta’s bamboozled, she can’t understand how, without training, he’s pulling such big numbers week after week.
Munnalita is worrried now, as the number builds up a bit further.
Total: 12.7kg
Damien’s turn. Ad break first. Which is conveniently how a lot of people found out what Damien’s weightloss is going to be this week!
Week 3: 193.8kg – LOSS: 7.2kg
Can’t wipe the grin off his face, flexes and gives a big yell. Tells us it can’t be good for your heart, your back, anything. He then addresses “everyone out there” telling us that it doesn’t matter if you’re 10 kilos overweight or more than a hundred like him, doesn’t matter how lethargic, you’ve got to get out there and do it!
He recalls an early training session where he’d said to Bob, “Bob, you’re killing me!” and Bob replied, “No, Damien, I’m saving you.” And that’s the reason he wants to be there – he wants to be saved.
Total for Blue: 19.9kg
Percent: -2.41%
Red’s turn!
Red will require a loss of 17.9kg in total.
Courtney’s up first, hoping for more than 3.2kg, his last week’s figure.
Week 3: 126.9 – LOSS: 3.4kg
He’s happy with that, since it’s more than last week and that’s what he wanted.
14.5kg to go!
Munnalita’s turn. She felt like she lost a bit of weight at the start of the week but by the midpoint she was feeling fairly “normal”.
Week 3: 113.5kg – LOSS: 2.9kg
She says again that she wants to lose enough weight to start a family and that’s it. Ajay asks her what weight she needs to get to and she says around 90kg.
Ajay asks her if she has a message for her husband, and she says she loves him and doesn’t want to come home at this weight. Aside she says she has a long way to go and knows it’s a long road ahead and so on.
Four people remain, 11.6kg to go. Things are looking pretty good for Red.
Pati the immunity chick is up next. This could be trouble. She’s hoping for 5 kilos but has a bung shoulder.
Week 3: 108.9kg – LOSS: 2.6kg
Not bad. Half what she wanted but not bad.
Combined weightloss: 8.9kg
Remaining: 9kg on the nose, from three people.
Mel’s up next. Ajay asks her how she feels about the teamswap, and she says to be honest it’s been hard. She wants 2kg or more, to match last week’s effort.
Week 3: 96.4kg – LOSS: 2.3kg
Very nice! She said she’s happy with that. Even Munnalita is impressed with the number.
6.7kg remaining, from two members. Greg and Marty. Surely they’re home and hosed from here?
Greg’s up now. He’s feeling confident, feeling he had at least three and a half kilos in him.
Week 3: 132.3kg – LOSS: 2.5kg
Uhoh! He says he wasn’t upset with himself, just shocked. Unimpressed. Greg thinks maybe he trained too hard. Courtney thinks maybe Greg’s just put on a bit of muscle mass this week or something.
It’s all down to Marty. He’s going to need 4.2kg or more in order to win. Tensions are high!
Week 3: 141.6kg – LOSS: 4.4kg
HOOOO BOY! “YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!” “Crikey that’s good!” Ajay asks him if he has any words for the old Marty up on the wall – “You’re a top bloke, but I’m better!”
Lots of very happy people on the Red side!
Total for Red team: 18.1kg
Percentage for Red: 2.45%
Extraordinarily close! 200 grams in it. Though Red didn’t have their trainer for the Last Chance Workout, so who knows.
Blue is shattered. Blue is so going to send Gerard home after his woeful performance this week! Nobody much likes Michael, but he at least lost a goodly amount!
In tomorrow night’s Biggest Loser, Damien and Jules or Laura take Gerard aside to talk to him about needing to put more effort in it seems. Then later they’re sitting in the lounge and Jules criticises Michael’s team spirit and P’eta comes right out and says, “When I vote, I’ll be voting for you.” Could Michael be going?
“I’m starting to feel like I might have made a very big mistake.”
Also, Commando Steve is back this week!
And then in The Walk, “Whether you like it or not, someone is going home tonight!” DA DA DUNNNNNN! And they cover up what the Stone says as someone, with lily white hands and well manicured nails but they’re not painted black, turns it over to read what is written.
Sounds like a fun week ahead, at least until Thursday!
