Ajay Rochester discusses Sarah’s departure

Yes, it’s another Vile and Jackie Ho show audio clip, but this time it’s with Ajay Rochester, discussing Sarah’s departure from the show.

Be warned though, there are spoilers for the show. Nothing you couldn’t guess, but if you’re vehemently opposed to spoilers of any kind, you have been warned! The spoiler deals with the fate of Sarah, so if you don’t want to know… Don’t listen. If you do?

My comments?

Whilst I think it’s admirable that the show doesn’t want to give up on any of the contestants, I do think that once they go home, that should be the end of it as far as having them on the show is concerned. By all means, get them a gym membership and maybe have Bob/Jillian or Michelle/Shannan pay them a visit if it’s convenient, but if they’ve given up on the show proper, then they shouldn’t be going out of their way as much as they seem to be for Sarah.

To be fair, I think Sarah is probably the first one to actually walk out entirely? She certainly is the first Australian to do it, so I can understand the reluctance to give up on her, I just don’t want to see it affect the success of the remainder of the contestants.

That Sarah got to return to her home, when her team was supposed to be being “punished” for losing a challenge is also something to consider. Part of the early stages of the process is having that support from other people around you, to push you all towards your goal. The rest of the red team have missed out on some of that due to Sarah’s antics, and if she returns now then that is going to be playing on all of their minds – what if she decides to leave again?

Not to mention the effect this will have on the team’s weightloss for the week. With Sarah having gone home for at least a day and potentially more than one, her weightloss amount is not going to be what it could be if she’d stayed at the mansion. If she’s an emotional eater, she may actually have already regained the weight she lost during her short tenure at the ranch.

This will royally screw up Red’s chances at winning the weigh-in, virtually guaranteeing them a loss, which means one of them will have to be eliminated… Unless the producers take this into consideration and sit her out of the weigh-in proper. And then that wouldn’t be fair to the blue team, as the Red’s screwed up and should have to deal with it.

Although, there is an opening here that is fairly convenient, if they realise it – yes, Sarah has gone home. But Gerard is also out of action for the moment. If you sit them both out of the official weigh-in, you get a fair fight once more.

Both of them still ought to step on the scales, though, simply to show them that even with their problems, they’re already losing weight. Because they would’ve. The change to diet and a bit of exercise should have started working already. But it may be better not to do it, just in case. Gerard would probably cope okay – he already wants to get back and the guy had a heart attack, for crying out loud – but if Sarah stepped on the scales and gains weight… She’d be crushed.

Regardless of which way this turns out, it’s injected a real sense of drama to the show, and I suppose we ought to be thankful for that?
